Eh, can't really say that.
We've had two Grey Warden options in the past (Though Anders one could consider a special case being an Abomination and all) and neither were particular Thane sob-stories.
So we'll have to wait and see.

True, but Alistair was an warden for 6 months and Anders for about an year. As far as we know, it seems Blackwall is about his middle 40's. If he was recruited at an young age, it would mean he doesn't have much time left.

Well, he's evidently been a Warden for a while, so he's probably closer to expiration than the past two Warden LIs, so...maybe? The Calling is apparently kind of inconsistent with the amount of time it takes.
When you think about it though, every single romance in DA:O had imminent premature doom on the horizon because the player was a Warden too.
This is all there is on the matter, currently.
If I had to guess, if it -did- go the route of Thane it'd be a bit more... calm then how Thane went out.
I don't mind a bittersweet romance as long as there's plenty of sweet.
Then again Ms. Chee also said that her chosen song lyrics have no spoiler context. IT's just what comes to mind.

If they went that path, I'd imagine it'd be more along the lines of... "There's nothing I can do about it, best enjoy life with you as long as I can". Which I'd be perfectly fine with, I could smile at that while I cry my eyes out.

Welp I tried. Probably gonna submit to the corruption that is Aimo and romance Blackwall with a Dwarf lady.
Though to be fair when Thane died in ME 3 he was a NPC not a squad member, with Blackwall being a full time companion in DAI I doubt he is going to die during the events of the game
I'm actually kind of torn between dwarf and qunari, as I think someone from the "wrong side of the tracks" would work well with the romance. Leaning towards qunari because it's easier to imagine AWR's voice coming out.

In honor of my disappointment over Blackwall, I hereby decree that my first Inquisitor will romance no one, and will have unrequited love for Blackwall.
Hopefully he will be able to flirt with him at least. Just so Blackwall knows how he feels.

That's true. We don't really have a romance to compare him to at that point. So wacky smacky do it's up in the air.
