Shallow person that I am, I want to see CC options first. Depending on maybe I'll skip male elves.

The only I might skip is female elves, based on their arms. I hope they'll get better.

Man I wish I could finalize some of my character concepts so early like you guys. I usually just wait for the game and wing it with some base outlines. XD

I actually worked on this for a while now .

It's not sure. Laidlaw's elf was fine. The elf mage in the official site has noodle arms, but it might be because of the vest. It seems it restrict the arms like Morrigan's robe in DAO, since it restrict arms to other races too. The other elves in the site were better.
I'll wait the final game to see how they look.

Easily? I spent pages on the Cullen thread as they helped me out. And I've just discovered my Qunquisitor likes Tevinter things.

I didn't say it was easy just that you guys could do it before release (what I meant by early XD) :P

I actually worked on this for a while now .

XD

Hey don't worry I only know race, sex and class of mine some of mine so your not only on of us that does not have everything figured out

YAY. I know the class too :P Hoping it doesn't die when I hit the game.

Only thing I know is no elves or dwarves shall I play.

I...actually have no interest in humans. Or dwarves.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't interested much in humans. I do love my dwarves, however.

Well it's not so much disliking humans as disliking human backgrounds, They tend to be more generic fantasy.

Once I can distinguish Cadash and Brosca, I might have a better handle on things. My canon Warden was an Aeducan.

There were characters I loved, liked, didn't care or didn't like. There was only one I really hated - Anders.

I can't say I love Blackwall :) I'm interested, a lot. To get a better impression I need to play the game, obviously. I just have a good feeling about him.

Here's my Blackwall story.

I didn't give random Grey Warden much thought beyond concluding he was in and Cullen out. Then E3 happened. We had Alix Wilton Regan as one of our Inquisitors. I've always been a big fan of hers so I knew I had to play female. And...random Warden was now Blackwall and he had a character quote and was something of my physical type. I found the dedication to give his life for others admirable in the extreme. The interview only confirmed it. Here was someone I'd really like. I was also certain he wasn't a LI. Gaunt cheeks, ghoul-like eyes. Mentor. So I filed it away as BW and my tastes not matching. And I stayed out of here, mostly. No one likes a sourpuss. And then...DHMG was Dorian and he was gay. IB was not my type, nor was Solas. Cullen was more complicated than I remembered/ There was Josephine, but most of my ME playthroughs had involved romancing women, and I wanted something to drool over while still playing female. I waffled on getting the game. Solas was heavily hinted as a LI. Intriguing, but still...I waffled more. And I just wanted them to say Vivienne and get it over with because well a 5/3 ratio in favor of something other than straight men was laughable. But I still really wanted Blackwall because I thought he'd really get my Inquisitors. A LI for women I could really get into for once, combining both personality and sexual attraction on my end. But there was no way BW would ever do it. I actually found out about the romance reveal via a PM from a friend. I just sat there in stunned, happy shock. And then came here.

Which is a long way of saying that I've certainly hoped I've pegged Blackwall.

Once I can distinguish Cadash and Brosca, I might have a better handle on things. My canon Warden was an Aeducan.

Well, the backgrounds are different. Brosca was a casteless, the very bottom of Orzammar society, and even in the carta he/she was a grunt.
Cadash is a surfacer, either born in the surface or exiled, so in a different position then a casteless. Plus, the Cadash seems a feared family in the carta, so they might be at the top of the organization.
Which would make the relationship with Varric (member of one to the top Dwarven Merchant Guild families) very interesting.

Brosca's family was in debt to the Carta, so it was a kind of indentured servitude. I suspect the relationship with Varric could be quite fascinating and is one of the things I'm looking forward to seeing.

I agree that the human (background) felt kind of generic. Not that I didn't play them, but they did tend to feel a bit bland to me. I thought returning home as either of the two dwarf origins was fascinating (and CE as well).

And I've also leaned toward a mage to romance BW, and I'm not sure why. Maybe just because grey wardens seem to accept mages, especially non-Circle mages, better.

Forgot about the debt. I haven't played a Brosca for a while. I preferred the Aeducan.
Aimo's fanart influenced a lot my desire of rolling dwarves and romancing Cass and Blackwall with them :).

On the topic of the backgrounds, I agree that the HN's origin wasn't that good compared to others (dwarf Noble is my favourite), but I loved playing a HN, due to their connections with Ferelden and the Landsmeet plot. My canon is a male HN who I loved roleplaying.

It's roughly 50/50 for me.  Half detailed conceptualizing and outlining and personal detailing etc. and half "winging it" when I'm finally in-game.  Like, once I finally have the game, I have more access to lore, plot details, set-up, circumstances, situations, so on and so on, and it means I need to re-write/re-think some aspects of character, or finally be able to fill some aspects in that I was too vague on previously.

I do like their stronger connection to some of the characters (and killing Howe), but if it wasn't for the royal marriage, I'm not sure I'd ever have finished a human noble PT.

Wow, you guys are amazing, you already have your play throughs with characters, names, races, genders, back-stories all figured out. In the mean time, I'm still trying to figure out if I want to be a human, elf, or dwarf for my first playthrough, haven't even thought about names yet, and I'll figure out the back-story when the I see what happens in the beginning and as the story plays out, lol.

Not to discredit the rest of your post, but I saw this part first when I was scrolling through, and ...

I'm so sorry.  My mind is terrible and it went to places.

I have an idea, a Blackwall plush doll that tells you grey warden stories. Anyone want a Blackwall plushy?

8D I only got one planned out at all and I only did it when I was sure he could romance Josephine.

I actually tough that mage was easiest I have played him against. Next warrior, but trying to take him down with my dual wield rogue... that was a nightmare

It is the easiest to defeat the Arishok as a mage with ice and nature magic combined with upgraded Horror to stunlock him. It is easiest to defeat Arishok as a rogue with Shadow's decoy, debuffing fog, stealth...essentially misdirection is the best way to go for a rogue when dealing with him.

Anyway...

I always have a canon male and canon female character. The female character will definitely go for Blackwall. The other alternative is Cullen and he is...meh....
