May I ask why? What is it that worries you?

I only recently read The Calling (As well as The Stolen Throne and Asunder). The graphic depiction of a Warden undergoing ... what they do, was so depressing. I could cry for Alistair and the line of King Calenhad; not to mention my Warden. Additionally, Leliana is obviously no longer with our Warden, one can wonder why. Zevran might also be so fickle. Alistair can dismiss you at the drop of a hat if you don't harden him. Morrigan ... needs no explanation. And then there's Anders.

Need I say more?

The question wasn't whether we liked Blackwall. He's actually going to be my first romance ... but I am skeptic of Blackwall, rather than excited. I am hopeful for Blackwall, rather than eager. I am interested in Blackwall, but wary of Warden love.

Well it's more that as someone planning to play a qunari first time through and who dislikes IB, I have a lot of eggs in the Blackwall basket. Paranoia sets in.

I'm not sure Leliana no longer being with the Warden is a result of her being 'fickle' so much as the Warden pulling a vanishing act for unknown reasons.

A quick link, I thought you might like to know there's a fresh poll running of preferred love interests to romance following the reveals:

Thank you  :)

I didn't mean to imply either she or Zevran were not committed, my word was poorly chosen. Whether because of responsibility or tragedy (which could be one and the same), it is simply disheartening to not know whether the Warden is deceased (or worse) or working so far from their partner.

Ah yes, I see your point. Being a Warden sucks, despite what Alistair says.

Living in Thedas in general sucks, really.

at least there's not one, not two, but 3 people who may help minimize/erase the taint's effect.

The architect, Avernus, Fiona

it probably won't happen, but at least it's better to have 3 contigency plans instead of 1 or none.

The Architect is the riskiest option there, considering he spreads the taint wherever he goes.

This is true.

However I wonder if Fiona would think her situation as more of a betrayal to her Order than a cure to be extracted and applied to her fellows? If the First Warden could apply such a cure to their people, do you think they would? What is more convenient to their secrecy: Wardens forced to live or die in darkness with the advancement of darkspawn sickness or elderly retired Wardens living among the populace? There would be too much risk in their privacy being breached, I think.

@Saberchic

But it's the last trend!
At first he was too old.
Then he was too ugly and tainted.
Now he is a romance, and it drives some people nuts.
Apparently we are a niche group of old geezers.

Don't care, we have Ser Beefcake, and I'm happy.

research on resisting the taint, even curing it would be invaluable to the wardens and IMO most of Thedas,

the wardens have their "immunity" for a while but the veterans could then be cured to later occupy positions of training new recruits with their experience.

A non warden army with a resistance to the taint, although not as effective as warden immunity, would be a tide changer for many countries suffering a Blight and a godsend to the dwarves for a boost in help reclaiming the thaigs.

I was just thinking like, extremely senior for their veterans. I've been led to believe the Wardens are poorly funded, and maybe couldn't support an Order with less capable members.

The Wardens pretty much rule the Anderfels, so I don't think funding is that much of a problem for them. At least back at headquarters.

Come to think of it, I wonder how the Inquisition will get money to equip and supply its army...

I want Blackwall's death to be coming fairly soon by the end game. I love a tragic romance and find it life-affirming for a story to tell me love is worth having even if you aren't going to have much time together. I don't want to fall into the error the ME3 Thane romance of telling me death was better than life and that surviving partners should be seeking to rejoin lost loved ones.

Has anyone read the manga (I understand there was an Anime but I never saw it) Ceres: Celestial Legend? Yes, I know how that sounds, but suffice to say that it ends with a doomed romance. Heck, the plot is carried by three doomed romances, but what I mean is that by the end, the main character and her beau are left knowing that he's going to die, probably within the year, and yet they're going to make the best of it together. I rather have this sort of conclusion to a BioWare romance I think, than have to witness the death // entry to the Deep Roads (in this case, perhaps).

I doubt he'll die in-game as well. But I think they may make it clear that he'll be going to his calling soon

Not in-game (there will be DLCs after all) but that it's coming and maybe they shouldn't make plans longer than a year into the future. And it will still have been worth it and no Quizzy isn't planning on dying with him.

I've said numerous times that I don't believe there will be forced or scripted companion deaths in game (bad choice deaths are likely I think).  And I prefer it that way.  I don't need to see it or dwell on it to know how a Grey Warden ends.

It seems to me that enough people have started to research into the Calling that they might have come up with something. I know they examined Fiona after she came back taint free. There is also Avernus or the Architect.

He is more than the taint. I don't want his his story to center around that. If it does, it'll be a huge disappointment.
