About the much reviled Blackwall/Thane analogy: I do not get the same vibes from them at all.

Thane is an Atoner and a Deathseeker. He's basically just waiting to wrap-up his life. There is a palpable aura of goodbye and foreshadowed grief in almost every part of his story. Just watch his intro in ME2, with his words, the music and the image of a setting sun behind his shoulders. I would be extremely surprised - and greatly disappointed - if Blackwall was in any way similar. I expect a man in his prime, with death somewhere not too far in the future but still fully connected to the world he lives in, with a few things to regret (who hasn't got those) but nothing he needs to atone for, a man whose dedication to a cause hasn't removed his ability to enjoy the good moments in life to the fullest, like drinking a fine wine, knowing the supply is limited.

Maybe that's just my hope speaking, but I really think he might be somewhat like that. And I hope that's not something everyone else here would dislike... I feel like walking on eggs if I lean out of the window with my preferences like this.

No that's pretty much what I want as well.

So I actually got around to reading his WoT letter (don't own the book) and was pleasantly surprised. There's a pragmatism there I wouldn't have guessed from his blurb, He seems very intelligent and well-spoken, and concerned with the world as it is, while still taking his vocation seriously. I think I'm really going to love this guy.

Something for humor.

User.

May we ask, about what age is Solas. His look doesn't give much away in that regard.

Patrick Weekes.

Good question! I'd put him in early-to-mid-forties. He and Blackwall occasionally have "kids these days" talk.

Just two older gents, on the road, reminiscing about days of yore.

I can!

But seriously I never gotten so hyped over a game that I did when Blackwall was announced as LI. Why it's not november yet ;__;

Reminds me of myself when Miranda was described for ME2. I just hope my LI favorites won't be ruined by character development this time. Unlikely, fortunately, male NPCs rarely get the same kind of traditionalist softening treatment.

As for believing it: I think Blackwall's reveal as an LI came as a surprise to most people. He wasn't even on my radar until he was announced, and then, to my surprise, I found Maelyn Trevelyan might be attracted to him.

And I tried to work up some enthusiasm for other LIs while wanting Blackwall (Ieldra can attest to how frantic I was on both counts). I didn't consider him possible at all, to the point I didn't want to come here and start seeing "evidence" that was conjured from groupthink and my own wishes.

Well, my pessimism was wrong and here I am!

I was pretty sure the last LI would have been Vivienne and was like :"Okey there's Seran, Dorian, Cass and Cullen. Oh and josephine I'm bound to like at least one of them" And then all my hopes got true and we got Blackwall. I had him on "give me Blackwall. Any Blackwall" and oh to have him *dreamy look*

I was pretty sure he was going to be excluded as a mentor figure (i.e. mature age). So glad I was wrong.

This is what I thought as well. And yeah- super glad to have been proven wrong.

That was because when Cullen and Cassandra were announced, everybody assumed they were the main romances. Most speculations based on Cullen being the main option for heterosexual women, and it turned out not to be true.

I think a lot of people were pleasantly surprised though. He is manly handsome and is a good compromise appearance and personality wise between Ken-doll (I expect a very syrup romance, but maybe wrong) Cullen and more exotic and extreme Iron Bull. Add Grey Warden mysterious aura and noble knight archetype. Some women (and not only women) were disappointed in too whiny male romance options in previous DA games. (Garrus is popular for a reason). So he has quite a pull, I would guess.

It's just my opinion, though. :)

Yes, I was pleased too. I fed up Cullen long before the game was annonced and I hope he will be good general.

Blackwall is the kind of person I have neen waited to see in DA universe and especially in LI- warrior not only by class but also warrior spirit. Too much weak men was in LI before with Zevran being the only exception. For me he is the best option among of all - mature man with attractive apperiance. Cullen... I don't like his apperiance- he is nice but he is too Ken like. Iron Bull sounds nic but he is too big and ugly.

Well, and Blackwall is somewhat atypical. He's older, rugged, and a mentor in a franchise where the male options tend to be more classically handsome and younger. So I figured Blackwal as a Wynne replacement.

Cullen is very handsome and I'll get around to him in due time (and might have a little love triangle fun), but Blackwall is almost tailor-made for me.

I second this. I usually go for female options first and eventually like them better, but this time it's different. :)

I very much admit to having been warming up to the Blackwall romance idea.  Right now I'm inbetween Josie, Sera and Blackwall as my first romance...

Well, you can decide based on who wooed you first :D

I don't know how flirting with several people will turn out though. Patrick Weekes (I think) said the romance will be locked at some stage.

I dunno, they seem to implied that them pursuing you first no longer exists and the inquisitor must always make the first move :(

Aww, yes, I meant who will make the greater impression on you in the game.

Aww, yes, I meant who will make the greater impression on you in the game.

I always get too scared to not just jump in feet first the first second I can with the first person who I like that's looks interesting, cause I end up paranoid about my character ending up alone. :(  It was really hard to try and let the other characters hit on me first, because I was so scared, but when I did let them, and restrained myself it felt so much more natural and better.

I'm going to miss that option, whenever your character hit on the npcs, it always feels like it comes out forced and awkward, whereas the npcs seem better at it... :(

Plus I prefer being the one pursued if possible...  but missed romance in game paranoia usually got the best of me :(

I could be absolutely wrong, but I would venture to suggest that we'll have some time to develop relationships before the romance will be assigned to a specific follower.

Kind of like in ME 3 where we had previous and new options. None were locked before certain story moment though. It gave you time to appreciate new characters or to decide to return to your previous partner.

I would also suggest that relationship will depend on character's personal quest.

I end up paranoid about my character ending up alone.

Would that be so bad? I don't think every playthrough has to include a love story. My qunari will likely stay single.

I spend enough time alone in real life.  In my fantasy world I'd like to be loved.  I'm depressed enough in real life without being depressed for my character too.

No being alone is not bad for those who don't mind it, but it is incredibly lonely.

Part of the reason I'm on here so much now is the company, lol, I'm so pathetic :(

May just be my opinion, but Iron Bull and Blackwall are usually the type of characters relegated to non-love interest companions - the ones that fans meet in-game and then lament on the forums at not being able to romance.  I'm still shell-shocked that both are not just love interests, but that they were the two male options from the start.  I'm quite pleased at the variety and the fact that I was completely wrong in thinking Blackwall had a cold day in hell's chance.   :D

I'm certainly glad that Ken-doll and an elf are not the only male options. Variety is good. ;)
