The voice doesn't do much for me either, but I'll reserve judgment until we can hear his normal tone. I think most of my disappointment comes from people telling me he had a very attractive voice when I find it only average. Not that it stopped the Garrus romance for me.

Like I said I'm going to hope and pray this is just a bad example.

Well it's not a bad voice, it's just not the vocal chocolate I was led to expect (I have Greg Ellis and Gareth David Lloyd for that).

Um... I'm not sure I like the voice... :( The voice in the example sounds really goonish... like a villain from home alone... Especial the way he says Castle is especially dumb sounding... :(

*Hopes and prays this was just a bad clip, or it doesn't sound as bad when we see him actually saying it* :( I was expecting a more gruff voice, a bit of a sexy growl to it...

Um, the way he says castle is the way a lot of people from around Yorkshire and surrounding areas pronounce certain words, so, you know, it's a bit rude saying he sounds dumb and like a goon because of his accent...

Everything is rude to someone somewhere.  It sounds exactly like many goons speak in tv shows.  Maybe your issue is with people with that accent being constantly portrayed as goons, and not me making the comparison based on what I see constantly portrayed and thus associate it with.  I said how it sounds, not that I thought he was just a dumb goon, but he sounds like more dumb goon portrayals than I can count.  That's not my fault, that's Hollywood's.

I don't think he sounded thuggish. It was just something about it reminded me of Keith David barking orders during the ME3 prologue. Again, I'll reserve judgment until I hear him speaking normally. My reaction to both Alistair Parker and Stephen Dillane was "I can work with that, even though I go for more aristocratic voices."

I like the voice though it's hard to tell from that little snippet really.

I've liked all of the voices so far. The only companion voice I couldn't really get into was Kaiden's in ME. I loved the character but his voice never really matched him, IMO. The VA who played him was fantastic but I guess his voice seemed too soft spoken for me. Blackwall sounds good to me so far. Can't wait to find out who the VA is.

Well I'm not entirely sure what tv shows you watch that portray all 'goons' with an accent like that as I haven't seen them, but still, those kind of shows should be taken with a good spoonful of salt, because they're not RL.
Anyway, I was just pointing out such a sweeping generalisation of people based on an accent is rude, no matter the accent, even though you obviously didn't mean it to be, and since this is a public forum and not a private conversation amongst people who you believe you couldn't be rude to with such a statement, you could just have simply said you didn't like the way he spoke in that clip, which is fair enough, instead of insulting a regional dialect. It's just good manners.

Tastes differ. I think Greg Ellis voice is too soft and a little whiny.   :D  And Kaidan sounded exactly like Carth. Ugh.
It's too early to make a judgement. Even if we know who voice actor is, we don't know how he will sound in game (some have rather big range) and how that voice is connected with character's visual image is important too.

It doesn't sound goonis at all to me, it's actually quite nice. The second part ruffled my feathers at beginning a bit but I'm getting used to it. Also it's really hard to tell from a line like that what the voice is actually like in the end, but so far BW has always done nice job so I'm not really worried

Kudos to GamerMD video about Skyhold for finding (commissioning?) it. Yeah, looks like a commission. :)

Using a dragon age example, the voice makes me think of Hedrik the bald bandit in Lothering in origins.  It just in the example given brings this character's image into my head.

Hedrik is not what I want my love interest's voice to make me picture.  Is why I'm hoping having the voice with the character will help fix it in my mind, because before the voice I was falling for Blackwall hard

I could just say I don't like it.  But I believe in, if not liking something saying why.  It reminds me of him.  Not completely sure why id does.  But that image in my head is not a seductive one.

Guys -- I think I finally figured out who, or what, his VO is.

We've all been fooled up to this point.  His voice is just sampled from bear noises.

100% match, I'm telling you.  Someone change the imdb page for DA:I to read "A Bear -- Blackwall"

I almost wish that was his voice.  Is better in my head then the weird Hedrik image the current sample puts in my head :(  For whatever reason that association occurs. :(

Don't worry.  Once you have more than a single sentence to listen to, I'm sure you'll no longer think of Hedrik the lantern-jawed (he wasn't bald, btw, he had a crew cut.)  Supposedly, one of the most sophisticated British accents is the Oxford drawl, which Ian McKellan adopted for the role of Gandalf in LOTR and The Hobbit, and no one thought he sounded like a thug.  I watched a History Channel archaeology show where a grubby, chubby, middle-aged archaeologist was standing hip-deep in an excavation trench lecturing in a perfectly cultured university accent and the disparity between accent and appearance was pretty amusing.  Of course, if the first words out of Blackwall's mouth are "Duh, which way did he go?  Which way did he go?" a la Bugs Bunny I'll be terribly disappointed.  :P

And I'll be finding Cullen a lot more attractive.

I've been thinking of doing a human instead of a qunari for my first Inquisitor. She's about as young as it's possible for the Inquisitor to be. She was terribly silly and romantic, even for a young mage. Swooning over the terribly romantic Grey Wardens. And now that seems like a lifetime ago. Fighting for your life against the templars leaves no time for such fool notions.

And I'll be finding Cullen a lot more attractive.

I'm still debating whether I even want to bother with Cullen to be honest.

He has a very gruff northern accent, which is exactly what I expected. And I'm gonna have to disagree, he sounds nothing like Hedrik.

Hedrik sounded...simple to say the least. I don't hear that with Blackwall, it's still got the northern sound, but it sounds intelligent.
