In theory, if the Warden were an LI (which I don't think he is, unfortunately), then the end of the game could be an ambiguous "the Inquisitor and his/her love, the Warden, traveled/disappeared/continued to lead/etc. and we wouldn't know first hand how the relationship ended.

Shut up, shut up, shut up. Let me live in ignorant bliss.

I think one of the big differences between the Thane romance and a possible Warden romance is the fact that, unless they switch things up, we probably wouldn't be privy to the relationship beyond this game.

With Thane, it was pretty obviously that Shepard would have to face his declining health throughout the game series, since he was already "dying" in ME 2.  If the series just ended there, we wouldn't really see that as such a tragic romance.  But because Shepard had to see him die in ME 3, it became more tragic.

In theory, if the Warden were an LI (which I don't think he is, unfortunately), then the end of the game could be an ambiguous "the Inquisitor and his/her love, the Warden, traveled/disappeared/continued to lead/etc. and we wouldn't know first hand how the relationship ended.

Mainly this.

I think at this point it's a given that each DA game is going to have a different protagonist. Since I doubt they're going to take away a companion during the game so he can go on his calling, it's a safe bet that it'll be left to an epilogue slide.

We also don't know when he had his Joining. Might still have plenty of years left in him, age aside.

May I reminde all of you that want to romance him that he seems to be an old and seasoned member of the wardens? Most likely you'll get your romance night and then, at the end of Inquisition, you'll have to say goodbye to Feathers as he goes down a cave that leads to The Deep Roads because of his Calling.

I'd go with a playable section of controlling Feathers when his calling occurs.

Battling in the deep roads alone against hordes of darkspawn, while hearing in the background the romantic/friendship/rivalry dialogues between him and the inquisitor, even with hp at zero, you won't go down you just keep fighting while the screen slowly dimmers and the sound slowly goes silent.

just a thought for an approppriate badass sendoff

I like it. Maybe have a "Song" start to slowly play and eventually grow louder, drowning out the other noises, to emulate the Song of the Old Gods.

Me: *reads silently, a frown slowly growing on my face*

I love this. As much as I want my Quizzy to have a perfect, happy ending with him and Cullen, this would be the best send off for our dear Warden. If this doesn't happen in-game, it has "perfect idea for fanfiction" written all over it.

Then i hope Avernus has come up with something. Or i go and make a deal with a demon ;) whatever :P. Also this is more of a question i guess, Hawkes sibling if they join the wardens, are nearing the calling aswell right about now right?

Not necessarily. They would have joined once the Blight had already ended, so probably not. I believe most Wardens have about 2 decades.

I thought that the calling happened between 10 and 30 years after Joining (closer to 10 during a Blight)?  Wouldn't the Hawke sibling only be about 7 or 8 years past their Joining at this point?

Don't know, that's why i asked :P but yeah i would think so. I wonder how long the GW has been a well...grey warden. Just because he is "old" dosen't mean that he has been a warden for long...it may just be some years for all we know...

Its worth noting that the Fifth Blight lasted less than two years, where as every previous Blight had lasted for decades at the least.

I imagine such a short blight would have a negligible effect on a Warden's lifespan.

Since they're fairly young, are in good health, and aren't in the blight they should have quite some time before their calling comes, Avernus is likely dead by now since his body was deteriorating rapidly.

That's about right, though it depends on many factors like willpower, health, level of darkspawn interaction, age etc. It's been about 9-10 years so while it's possible they could be near their calling it's also possible they would have a maximum of 20 years left from when they survived the joining.

It all depends on those factors, especially the willpower and level of darkspawn interaction.

Disturbed? Nah, I think it would take a lot more than that.

I always got As in descriptive writing when I was in elementary school.

It would.  My comment was sass. :P

Does it matter? Live today, treasure what you have. With Inquisitor's line of work, you don't know their day either. And even if they will not live a long life, there still will be good memories. Besides, there are those Avernus researches. :P

It reminds me talks in Mass Effect: But how can you romance Liara, she will outlive Shepard for centures! Meh, it's a story. Your story (at least for some degree). You are free to choose people you like.

Chances for Warden to be a LI are pretty small. Devs seem to be obsessed with Captain America type. Oh, well. I hope he is a companion at least.

Wasn't a huge Thane fan -- not because that he was dying man, but that the writing seemed a little off and that he seemed tailored for a romance option. Frankly, he was really boring to me. I think Thane's dialogue would have been improved if he told nothing but bad dad jokes.

"Thane I'm out of ammo!"

"Hello out of ammo I'm dad"

While I liked Thane I do think those who went with his romance kind of got the short end of the stick. Hopefully if they do allow Feathers as an LI they won't go that route though he probably is working towards his Calling already ;_;

However those who took Thane's romance path knew he was dying. I mean, that's one of the first things he tells you.

I'd prefer it if he were to go to his Calling as it would match up with continuity better. Are you hoping for the power of love to magically cure Feathers of his taint?

Thane stated he was dying in ME2, I don't feel that his romance was cheapened by what happened with him in ME3. If you don't want a dying LI then don't pick a terminally ill LI.

Of course not. I'd just prefer not to have an ending like Thane's. That if he is close to his Calling that it'll happen in the epilogue or off screen somewhere. And I have nothing against the Thane romance, maybe I'm just bitter about the way femShep's romances were treated in ME3

Thane's lack of treatment in ME3, or so I thought, was more of it feeling incomplete or having missing pieces, rather it ending with his death.   If Beardy Warden is to have a romance, no matter how it ends, I would hope it wouldn't feel that incomplete.

Cullen's beard game is weak; he stands no chance.  Before all is said and done, he will kneel and be shaved in shame.

You know where I want to go with this... Perhaps he'll wear an Andraste belt buckle too.

I'm a little bit sad that the Feathers Thread has only 29 pages, while Cullen has 135 here and ~4'500 in DA2 forum :crying:

Can somebody please explain it to me, 1) Why do people love Cullen? and 2) How can somebody not love Beardy?

To be honest, I didn't think anything of Cullen in Origins, even though I did the mage origin more than once. I didn't realize he was a character from Origins at all until after I'd already played through DA2 once and someone explained it to me. I barely remembered him as the one templar you find towards the end of Broken Circle.
