I heard more of his lines very clearly during the PAX demo (that are not available online, unfortunately), and I'd peg his voice as very rich and gruff, but not... at all like Hedrik. 0% like Hedrik.

He sounds like he could be an extra on Game of Thrones, someone from the North.

Not as harsh as what we've heard, then?

He has a very gruff northern accent, which is exactly what I expected. And I'm gonna have to disagree, he sounds nothing like Hedrik.

Hedrik sounded...simple to say the least. I don't hear that with Blackwall, it's still got the northern sound, but it sounds intelligent.

People keep swinging back and forth on Blackwall. One minute it's 'he's too old' then 'mentor relationship mmmmh!' and now 'his voice is wrong booo!'

I'll wait and give him a chance since according to the zodiac chart that's been floating around he's my soulmate. :D

This is what I assumed.

Since you heard more, what are your thoughts on VA ? Could it be Stephen Dillane ?

It's not that people are jumping around, it's that more people are joining the thread and they all have differing opinions. Which is fine.

This picture is convincing me that men and women are much alike. We're just a little less obvious about it. Reputation, you know.

Well, for me, it's that his voice, specifically, was hyped. I'd never bring it up otherwise, and it won't affect his romance chances.

Ahh, jumping in as opposed to jumping around. Got it! :D

Like I said in that one clip it gave that impression to me.  Is just how it sounded.  Am glad to hear it most likely won't give that impression heard proper.

Hm, I'd say he sounds a little... grumpy?  Serious?  There's a gravelly quality to his voice but it's not as gravelly as, say, Nathaniel Howe's voice was.  Very deep and rich, but with a serious edge to it.  He by no means sounds like a thug or a "goon" as it was said in here earlier.

This is what I assumed.

Stephen Dillane doesn't sound deep enough. He REALLY sounds like that guy in that clip from Divinity Dragon Commander that was posted (Alastair Parker, right?), with less of a ... drunken slurry quality, haha.

I was half-joking about that bear clip, too.  His voice really does sound like a bear.

I figured it was the dude from Dragon Commander. He fits the bill quite well.

I really don't think he sounds goonish in that clip, the pronunciation of castle is the only strange thing about it and that's typical of a northern accent.

I rather think he sounds like Richard Armitage.  I'm also projecting a bit because of that fantastic, Thorin-Oakenshield-quality beard that Blackwall sports.

edit: (and while I would be excited for Blackwall to be voiced by Richard Armitage, I'm aware that the odds are low)

Not sure this pic is the best example of that.  He's also giving a flower in a romantic gesture, which implies emotional attachment and care.

Whereas the male version would possibly have say Leliana in her undies, in an explicitly sexual pose, kissing a guy in the chair.

He used a Northern accent for Thorin, didn't he?  While the voice pitch doesn't exactly match (like how could anyone be deeper than Richard Armitage?! But Blackwall sounds deeper to me), I would say that Blackwall had the same sort of serious quality to his voice that Thorin does.

Wow...that's a bit sexist isn't it ?

Don't imply that men are just perverts who want to see nudity. We can be just as emotionally attached as women.

Not to mention that he is shirtless in that picture... Totally not eye candy.

I hung around on the Miranda thread. I promise you the men can be just as clasically romantic and treating their LI as a sex object is a good way to get flamed.

I know you can, but when what I described is generally what's used in promoting female characters to men.

Whereas when it comes to women, there's typically a bit more of a romantic bend to it...  We tend to look for context more.

And seeing as I like men, and would like men that are sentimental like that.  I'd certainly hope you aren't all like that. :P

While I can see what you mean, that picture was still clearly made to be eye candy. Sure nothing sexual is happening but I mean...look at it.  :P

Of course he's eye candy, but he's candy with romantic context ;)

The way I've heard women talk about men when they thought I couldn't hear them, if I said the equivalent to a woman here I'd be run out of the thread for sexism. I don't think there's much of an intrinsic difference. We all have our romantics and the more casual and less polite groups. Also, speaking only for myself, I'd prefer a white summer dress and a suggestive rather than explicit pose, but then I'm probably old-fashioned. As for the kiss, wasn't there a fan art picture involving Blackwall kissing a woman on one of the previous pages? It got quite a lot of likes...

Can I have a picture of Leliana in her undies, in explicitly sexual pose, kissing a girl in a chair? :P

There is time for everything. Roses are good. Kisses are good. And I bet both men and women can appereciate these wonderful things. :)
