So... What's the deal with announcing Blackwall's voice actor, anyway? Did someone forget that they were supposed to announce him already? All the other companion and advisor VA's have been announced.

Poor Blackwall. Left out in the rain.

You know what he's thinking here? He's thinking, "Those bitches, they forgot about me! Screw it. *rips off necklace* I'm done with this ****."

Hello everybody!
First of all thank you so much for the lovely comments on my Blackwall piece a few days ago. I know I'm late but I'm afraid I'm a terribly shy person..
Oh by the way if you're curious the reference was not Kili nor Thorin  but a model named Will Lewis  ^_^

Concerning his voice I'd like to say I really don't care if the VA is famous or not..
I still haven't seen or heard anything else performed by Simon Chadwick but his voice remains my favourite: the moment Nathaniel spoke I knew I had found my Dragon Age "crush". Not a romance option, of course..

Let me show you a Mother Nature's piece called Paraskevas Boubourakas. He's a model, therefore perhaps too "thin" for a warrior but I think he's a fine example of "real-life Blackwall" (even more now, considering how much he's changed compared to the early concepts)

For those of you who plan to engage in romance with Blackwall I don't foresee a happy ending for you...what with the Calling and such...probably talked to death already, but merely my thought as I've paid little attention to Blackwall until recently.y

'You know how my order has a motto? "In peace, vigilance. In war, victory. In death, sacrifice." I've always thought that they forgot one: "In life, satisfaction."'

To me this sounds like something Blackwall, or any Grey Warden nearing their Calling for that matter, would say. Especially if he's romanced.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the taint generally take 30 years for it to fully spread? If so, what is to say Blackwall has been a Grey Warden since he was 20? He could have easily been in his thirties or even forties before he was initiated, which would leave plenty years before his Calling. Maybe, maybe not.

So I would argue to stop making assumptions, since there isn't any real evidence to bolster it as far as I am aware. Even if Blackwall is in that age where the Calling is near, if BW actually manages to execute its presence properly through his romance and as a character in general, then I won't have any problems with it. What I found lacking with Thane romance was not his death but how poorly it was handled.

Yeah I also wonder why make assumptions about grey warden characters. I've even seen people state things like "well the warden/alistair/anders (if alive) are close to their calling in few years so such and such can/can't happen"...really? it's been like 10 years since they became wardens, they have like at least 15 left even if are were to assume 30 is a generous number.

As for Blackwall specifically, didn't they say somewhere he was a warden during the blight? I'm probably mistaken though but thought I'd ask. Even then he might have been initiated 10 years ago so still has plenty of time left. Now it's a different matter if 15-20 years is what people are referring to as "non-happy ending" and in that case it's a matter of perspective.

The assumption that he's far into the taint stems from, I think, the fact that he was a Warden Constable during the time of the Blight, which was at least ten years prior to Inquisition (This is excluding the age issue, which is moot to me).  At bare minimum, he's been a Warden for ten years, but a Warden Constable is second in command to the Warden Commander, right? I think I remember hearing that somewhere. One would again have to assume that he'd been with the Wardens for a while. However, it's also possible that he was promoted under extraordinary circumstances. Personally, I think there's way too much assuming going on. :P It's totally possible that Blackwall has time left. It's also possible that he doesn't. We won't know for sure until we play, so don't waste time worrying on it, good people. :)

On that note, I agree with Chewin completely.

It hasn't been announced yet. We all are pretty sure that it's Ramon Tikaram but it's not confirmed :)

Maybe they have videos? The marketing has been insanely weird.

Maybe the VAs have expressed their desire not to be swarmed by rabid Dorian/Blackwall fans. From my POV, that would be a compelling reason to avoid publishing their names before we seen them in DAI's credits section.

Ah ok. I'll also be very surprised if it isn't him that voiced Dorian.

Do we have any speculations as to who is voicing Blackwall?

I wouldn't care that much about banging Ned Stark. But banging Boromir, holy hades, yes! I had the hugest crush on Boromir in LOTR, even if he did try to get the ring from Frodo. He redeemed himself at the end.

Still crying everytime when I see Boromir die. He was much more badass than any other companion. But Sean Bean as VA is just a HUGE spoiler (looking at you, Martin Septim!)

Part of my assumption that Blackwall is close-ish to his Calling comes from the fact he looks a bit ghoulish. But whatever. A happy ending simply isn't high on my priority list.

Thanes death was handled poorly? I loved it...

It seems Gaider later regretted that magic 30 number, which probably means the writers sometimes might want to have it shorter for story purposes. But I don't think Blackwall's story will be all about standing with one foot in the grave already. At least I hope not. He and Dorian are the only characters that pique my interest at first sight, so I was pleased to hear Blackwall will be a romance option as well.

Gaider later clarified that 30 years is the best a Warden's lifespan can be, but not all live for that long. The taint might take some Wardens before. Plus, we don't know yet how exactly the Blight works in increasing the taint process. Does it works for every Warden, or only those who are near the Blight?

Blackwall was a Warden for at least 10 years, since he was during the fifth Blight. He probably was for more then 10, since he was the second-in-command at that time. I guess he's been a Warden for at least 15-20 years. Though i don't really have an opinion of his arc in DAI, if it'll be around being near the Calling or not.

On another topic, do you think we might get some interesting banter between Leliana and Blackwall? Maybe the latter is curious about the Warden.

Whenever Blackwall's calling is, I highly doubt it will be during the game. Especially since you can play after it's over. They aren't going to take a party member away from you just because.

Right. This is epilogue stuff. I expect Blackwall's main arc to be about the Wardens going nuts.

I swear if I didn't need a rogue, I'd have Cass, Blackwall, and Dorian as a sort of Team Redeemer/My Faction Has Gone Nuts on first playthrough.

I don't think we'll need any specific class. I'm totally planning a party with three mages (my human Inquisitor, Solas and Dorian) plus Blackwall, and four mages (my elf Inquisitor instead of the human one, remove Blackwall, add Vivienne).  Not that I'll always use the same characters in a playthrough, but there will probably be more and less frequent members depending on which kind of Inquisitor I'm playing.

That would be nice but there's very limited opportunity for advisers to have banter at all and when they do it seems to be more about the mission on hand (like we saw with Leliana and Dorian). Maybe it's not universal and they talk about general stuff too.

Anyway I'm far more excited to see the 'awwwwmygaaawd' sequence in which Blackwall removes his helmet. I read that at PAX there had been many jawdrops and omgs among women but that's not yet to be seen anywhere for us common mortals

That one clear line we've heard sounds very similar to Chris Eccleston to me. Has he been ruled out? Is Blackwall the last companion whose voice actor we don't yet know?

I thought this too! One can hope :)
