I imagine Blackwall is Andrastean in the same way most humans are - he was brought up to believe in the Maker and Andraste.  I doubt he's got really strong convictions about it, since he joined the Grey Wardens, not the Chantry.  Some people, like the human inquisitor, are placed in the Chantry, with or without their consent.  Some or even most (if the character blurb about Blackwall is correct) join the Grey Wardens out of necessity, not desire.  Blackwall volunteered.  If he had felt that strongly about the Chantry, he'd be a templar.  It's even possible that he's an Avaar - the warden Kerr was one (the bald, tattooed warden with the dog Hafter from The Calling.)  I'm pretty sure he won't care what the faith of the inquisitor is.

I agree. He's Andrastian the way a medieval Englishman was Catholic. It's part of his culture and he believes in the Maker and says his prayers. I doubt he's devout. I amagine being a Warden could make him inclined toward heterodoxy, particularly as relates to acceptable magic and the origin of darkspawn.

There's also the chance that he has shunned religion altogether. I've seen more than one person, after seeing intense battles or faced with a mega tragedy / event, decide that there is nothing else. We are it and once we're gone, we're gone. 

 

Just throwing out another option. No basis on actual information.

He can go either way. I doubt he is a religious zealot or militant atheist though.

I can't decide! The age difference would be fun, but also I like the idea of being grumps together. I think out of Solas & Blackwell, I'll do one with a much younger Quizzie and one with a fellow "old fart"

I'm thinking I'll roll an Inquisitor that's about 38. So they'll be fairly close, in my case. 

 

I've kind of grown tired of 20-something protagonists with the last two games, to be completely honest. :S

I have the feeling Blackwall could be somehow like Duncan about the Maker: he believes in a superior spiritual being to whom address his prayers but he doesn't pray routinely, and he can't recall verses from The Chant of Light by heart. I perceive him as a freethinker (if this is the correct word) with an innate sense of justice and duty

 

I agree, I don't see him being too dedicated to the Chantry and its beliefs. On a tangent (since you mentioned Duncan), I wonder if they ever met. I think in The Calling, Duncan was said to have been recruited in Orlais unless I'm mistaken.

Nope  I'll probably romance Blackwall with an elven or human PC around my age (between 20 - 25) and as a Qunari lady in her 30's - 40's.

If the question begins "Am I the only one..." the answer will almost always be no.

 

I plan to romance Blackwell more than once, so I may try it with both a contemporary and a younger protag just to see if there's a difference in the way it feels. But my first one will be a youngish dwarven rogue. Because, reasons.

He was indeed, Duncan grew up in Val Royeaux and was recruited in Orlais where he spent his first 6 months as a Warden under Geneviève's command

 

I agree we still don't know that much about Blackwall and judging from these screenshots http://waratahts.dev...shots-478912421 he looks like a 35 years old to me. No wrinkles, no white in his beard and mustaches....

 

About making an inquisitor much younger than him I have no problem at all, I spent the last 2 years of my life daydreaming about a love story between Duncan and my 21 years old warden ;P

 

He's actually around the same age range as Solas, possibly older

I think the inquisitor should have an option to do his calling with him. In the epilogue of the game; it would be pretty interesting. Unless he does his calling mid game , but that is not expected.

/ontopic I'm debating right now to go Qunari or Human for my first playthrough. I always start with a human, but the female Qunari just look amazing~

Personally I'm not a huge fan of age difference, but my inquisitor that will romance him will likely be around 32-34 so that's still 7-10-ish age gap. I don't think I can do an inquisitor under 30 tbh cos 10-15+ is too much for me, but it could be interesting.

My first two Inquisitors will both be Dwarves and I'm thinking probably early 30s for Brilda (first Inquisitor, my Blackwall romance) and mid-to-late 20s for Baerek since part of his backstory is protectiveness of a young sibling. I know all the races on Thedas have comparable life spans but I've never really found anything online on maturation rate or that I remember from the games.

 

And thanks for the input on my previous question! I accidentally spoiled myself on Last Flight though I'm still champing at the bit to get home and read it tonight still, of course.

 

But with that in mind, major spoiler below the cut for the new novel! (And if this is not an okay thread to discuss that in, I'll remove immediately, of course.)

So! We have griffin babies! It's likely not a big factor in the main game but what do you think this would mean for the Wardens? I would love if a big part of Blackwall's arc is a house cleaning of the bad element of the Wardens we're seeing from the trailer and maybe discovering the griffins in a DLC or something like that? Seriously, every faction in this game is bursting with such juicy story potential!

I need to know more about backgrounds before deciding. Would feel rather stupid creating 36 old Trevelyan only to find out that her elder sibling looks 20. I'm happy I don't have to play as a kid at least.
