I've had a theory since the Legacy DLC of what is going to be going on in this game.  We'll see if I'm right soon    I tend to think I was pretty spot on.

 

As for romancing, I'm playing a human first and Blackwall is definitely first for me.  Probably Cullen 2nd and Solas 3rd.  If I can stay away from Blackwall that is.

 

I have a billion DAO play throughs and all of them are Alistair except one for Zevran for the achievement and I'm just now playing my first male character ever in DA for Leliana (but I dumped Morrigan for her so I got all the achieves now mwahaha).

 

So anyways, my guess is Blackwall leaves cuz of the Legacy stuff. 

 

P.S @ Ceoldoren  I've lurked the Solas thread for ages.  They have good discussions.  In fact I told my friend Jilinna about them and now she posts there all the time

I don't think fan threads are some kind of religious cult. "If you are not with us, you are against us!" The same thing goes for playing different games. I see how people fight which is better: Dragon Age, the Witcher or Elder Scrolls and it is just... I like all of them. You may have preferences, sure. But going for a war for it? Meh.

Of course, but I had to do it for the sake of humor. You are correct though, people get a little too up in arms about what game is best. If you only like one, great. If you like them all, even better. But it's not a competition. (At least not for the consumer.)

If it wasn't for Solas' pretty face and how unique his romance could be. He would still be my first choice, but I just can't pass up Solas.

Depending on how much I like Solas and Blackwall. (And I'm thinking I will like both a great deal) I may be flipping a coin to decide. I'm not good with decision making. At least not this kind.

That's an odd scene. So the Grey Warden cut the rope, but didn't freed the bald guy (which looks rather unhappy, guilty, ashamed). Then he stuck his sword in the platform, stripped his armor and griffon amulet, pummeling some guards in the process (and other Orlesians just stay here?) I'm somehow reminded of sir Barristan Selmy resignation. Looks interesting.

 

I know this is super old and I'm late to the thread, but I was reading from the beginning and came upon the discussion of the "gallows scene" concept art and just had to comment. I'm sorry if what I'm about to say has already been said, but I don't really have the patience to read through 269 pages just to be sure.

 

So... What if the bald guy is a fellow Warden who was sentenced to death (maybe by the Orlesians, maybe by the First Warden), and Blackwall, not agreeing with the punishment, or even being the cause of it, intervenes to save his friend. But, in doing so, he crossed a line (maybe by disregarding orders from the FW) that would make his life forfeit with the Wardens, so he tears off the amulet almost dejectedly, knowing that this day was coming (maybe after his mounting opposition to the FW's and Warden's stance on neutrality, as previously mentioned in the thread).

 

That would also explain why the man doesn't seem happier about being saved. Blackwall saved the man's life, but at the cost of his own. Any friend wouldn't be happy about that.

No worries, this is one of the things we debate most. We've been arguing about this for quite awhile 

 

We can assume that he saved these men from execution. Meaning he probably had to go on the run (Though he most likely would of left anyway.)

 

The thing that we still don't know is why this is all happening, even the people who are up to date on the spoilers don't know why he left. (Well, at least I don't.)

 

Also, welcome ! I give you props for actually taking the time to read from the first, even if you don't finish. I just can't bring myself to go through every page. Even as interesting as it is.

I was checking the DA site and noticed something odd and a little troubling.  On each character description page, there's a little box with lines for race, class, and status.  For Cass, Vivienne, and Varric, the status line says companion.  For Morrigan, Blackwall, Sera, and Bull, the status is alive.  The rest, including all three advisers, Cole, Dorian, and Solas, have a blank status line.

 

What does this mean?  I wonder if the ones that say "companion" are locked in for recruitment no matter what, while the others might be optional.  That doesn't bother me too much, since even if they must be recruited, they don't have to be brought along if they're annoying.  The part that bothers me a bit is that some of them are listed as alive and some are blank.  Does this mean that the "alive" characters are alive at the end regardless of player choices, or does it mean that they're alive for now but that might change?

 

The reason this is troubling is that Sera is pictured in that one trailer "not having a good day."  I've come to terms with the thought of possibly losing Blackwall, no matter how much I think I'm going to adore him, because all good things do sometimes come to an end.  I just thought Morrigan was a DA fixture, like it wouldn't be Dragon Age without her.  I hope nothing happens to her!  Of course, Leliana seems to lead a charmed life as well, and her status line is blank.  So is Solas', and it seems likely that he and the Dalish female inquisitor might be able to go off and start a new Arlathan.

Well in the case of Morrigan if you gut checked her with a dagger in Witch Hunt I could see her not being alive in DAI.

I thought that too, with all the blanks, but it's been like that for a couple weeks.  Maybe it was uploaded before it was finished, but I'm a bit concerned nonetheless.

Considering this info is not even translated into other languages, it's still WIP. The site itself is very... clunky and not informative. So I would not worry about it yet. It also would be very spoilerish to declare companions' status like that.
