Really? That's interesting, seeing as they said he wasn't too good at picking up romantic cues himself.
Maybe he's a case of 'used to be better at that back in the day...'

I can't really imagine them making it so everything they said about the guy pre-release was a blatant lie. Which wasn't much, admittedly, but plot twists would feel kinda cheap that way. I mean, at least they've dropped hints for Vivienne's supposed 'hidden agenda' to not make it so the plot twist is only there because you were completely misled before release.
I don't think everything was a blatant lie, but Grey Wardens just aren't these idealistic heroic figures of legend. We learned that lesson in Origins.
Blackwall isn't so much acting like a real Grey Warden as he is behaving more as a Fairy Tale, and that's basically how he's been described. The perfect Warden of a children's story. The thing is, Fairy Tales aren't real.
The Blackwall from World of Thedas was certainly not this noble heroic figure the Inquisition Blackwall seems to be. That Blackwall decided Ferelden was a lost cause and never went there, while this Blackwall claims he was fighting Darkspawn in Ferelden all along but curiously never showed up where a Warden would be most needed and where a proper Warden would know he was needed.

It is the same person. Blackwall is clever and pragmatic person not Knight in the shining armor.

Then he is still lying about being in Ferelden fighting Darkspawn.

So in what video did he claim to have been stationed in Ferelden all along ?

It's from two pages ago. Second video, I believe. When questioned on what he did to help against the Blight, he says he was in Ferelden.

Perhaps he did end up in Ferelden eventually, later in the Blight? Just too late to be of any help to the Warden and co. in Denerim, I guess.
Maybe Riordan wasn't the only one who crossed over.

Maybe, did he ever mention coming across the border alone ?
I dunno, the idea of him pretending to be a Grey Warden to boost morale among commoners is....kind of sweet, honestly.

Wow. I'm really surprised about how evasive Blackwall is. This is going to be interesting indeed. I can't wait to play - this waiting is getting intense. Every spoiler is such a tease.

We better be able to tell him to curtail that language. My Inquisitor will not tolerate such vulgarity in his presence.

Well someone is super set on Blackwall being a sham >.>. Regardless, his heart seems to be in the right place so far.

I must say that those two videos actually made me like Blackwall even more...it was like talking to a senior NCO! ![]()
The Blight lasted just over a year, at the beginning of it Blackwall wrote the letter from Val Chevin. Then Loghain forbade entry into Ferelden to the Grey Wardens from Orlais.
I must say that Blackwall strikes me as the type of person who would have said 'sod that! I'm going!' Changed out of GW armour and headed over the border once the streams of refugees started arriving, regardless of his standing orders.
So far I've not seen any justification for assuming him to be a fake.

The discussion got so interesting that I had to delurk. So hello, fellow Blackwall fans ![]()
The theory about Blackwall not being a Grey Warden is very interesting, and all evidence so far - little as we have it - seems to be proving it. If it was true, it would definitely give room for great character development.
But I feel very conflicted. On the one hand, it would be something novel, and interesting... but on the other, I want a Grey Warden in the team so much... Loved the Wardens in DAO, despite - or maybe because of - all their flaws, missed them very much in DA2. I can't help it, I want more Grey Wardens.
Plus, I've never forgiven Biwoare for killing off Duncan (after making him not romanceable and not even a party member), so...
And I want some griffons ![]()

Regardless if he is lying (or omitting/covering up something) about his past or not I feel like he wants to do good and is honorable. He wants to protect others. He wants to do good. At least that's the feeling I get. And that's what matters.
I can't wait to play and meet him and start to unravel his story! ![]()
Welcome 2 new peoples! ![]()

Actually, the one flaw I see with the probability of him lying about being a grey warden is Leliana. Alistair and the warden weren't exactly secretive around their companions about the Joining or what being a Grey Warden meant, but that stuff isn't common knowledge (even the treaties wouldn't necessarily be common knowledge). And this is the new, hard-edged Leliana, I can't believe she wouldn't have a conversation with him and pick up on it if he didn't know basic information about the wardens. I do think he's covering up something, though (but aren't they all?)

I agree Tishina. I think all the companions have ulterior motives or hidden agendas. I think it's going to be great!
I think I forgot to mention that I think Alastair Parker sounds fantastic. He sounds FANTASTIC!

I love his voice too. I finally feel like we have a personality to go with the description, and so far, he's pretty much what I'd hoped.

I really hope Blackwall is an actual Warden just because the idea of a veteran Grey Warden who holds on to his Honor, and wants to help people; Blight or no, sounds interesting to me.

I agree with you, that even if it turns out to be true (about lying to be a Grey Warden) he honestly looks like he wants to help people. Everybody has the right to change or start anew. Also as you all know, it is a common thing among Grey Wardens to recruit people with shady pasts (Daveth) or those who "could" be considered criminals at one point (The Warden).
I do find it odd he's very evasive about being a Grey Warden, specifically because we all know what is like to be one since we played becoming one but I'm not sure I know too much about the Wardens outside of Ferelden. I could just imagine Leliana trying to interrogate him though if that was the case. lol

On the upside folks, if Blackwall is not actually a Grey Warden, then you ladies do not have to worry about him being Tainted or having to go for the Calling. Though I would be surprised if Leliana does not catch a wind of his BS, she is the Inquisition's M after all.
