That sounds like a bug. According to the strategy guide, you're supposed to get a cutscene in your quarters afterward.

Wait, what? If you decide to go to the tavern...you're supposed to get a romance scene in your room later?! I actually did reload and picked the tavern scene just to see the dialogue because someone else said it was nice - and then I reloaded because I had adventuring to do. I thought the romance scenes pretty much consisted of his first visit to your quarters when he tries to get you to put an end to the relationship (I figured with the bed right there, there was no way it didn't end up being used, considering...) and then the barn scene.

Honestly, if I could get a non-barn romance scene in my Inquisitor's room, that would be nicer - I mean, I spent SO much money on interior decorating! And I'm a little tired of the flies and the horses (no offense, Blackwall - but my Inquisitor's room is much nicer *HINT HINT*).

I have the prima guide - I am not sure they got all the details right?
I actually reloaded an old save after finishing my first playthrough because his arc was so borked - for example, when doing shards on the storm coast, all of a sudden I get the cutscene for the badge without any other preamble than flirting a little in Haven, and it also seems bits and pieces fell out.
Only scene I got, after having beaten the game, is the one where they watch the sunset together.

I DID love the epilogue, though - and how well it was done, both his comment and that scene where he just looks.
And not just because of the feels, but also because it depicts a man w an asskicking gf by whom he is not threatened at all, and he is just happy and in love.
So with all due respect to the people who weren't big on Chee, this bit was awesome to me :)

Do wish you could have generic dialogue post-epilogue, though - not much to talk - or snog - about in the stable, now....

/A

I went back to a save, and chose to hang out in the pub instead of going back to the barn. I followed it through to the revalations quest and the

Spoiler
, but when it was all done, he's back in the barn, and the line I love to ask
Spoiler
isn't even available! Just the nevermind and the kiss. Not that I mind the kissing. haha.

I didn't take my testing much past that, since I have a real game much farther on happening. I tried going on a quick hunting mission and coming back, but no change. If there is another scene, either it's borked or it's tied to something else. Maybe after I finish the game I'll come back to this save (it's at exactly the 100 hour mark! yes I've been totally rambling my way through this game, because i'm not even finished yet) and check it out.

I've actually not posted in this thread much because I didn't expect to care about Blackwall, but he ended up being my first LI and I adore him and him and my Cadash so much, lmao. So, waves. :)

How is it little depth when you claim there are so many? that just doesn't make sense to me, there. This game is a sprawling massive experience, if you can devote time and effort to that, I can't see why reading some extra Codex is too big of a hassle.

There is nothing detrimental in all those evolved/deep systems. For the longest time Dragon Age has always lagged behind in terms of gameplay, now its actually a good game as much as it is a good story. Inquisition's cast for me personally, is probably one of the best because they all feel well developed, yes even Blackwall, his personal quest and the revelations surroundings it just added so much to him as a character.

But suffice to say before I go on, I haven't actually romanced him yet so i'm merely giving my input on him in terms of a character who's just a companion, nothing more. :P

Oh and as for combat, that's exactly why the fast paced, more cathartic combat works so wonderfully well. In DAO it all felt much more mechanic than ''filled with emotions'', everything was incredibly clunky and slow paced. Now you feel as if you're knee deep in the action and it works well without sacrificing too much depth/strategical depth.

Actually the best combat system ever is imho that of Skyrim, it feels much more life-like when you face your enemies eye to eye and feel the recoil of their blows against your shield, pity the game is so boring that I stopped playing it very early while I'm pretty sure I will make more than one run of DA:I

I like Blackwall too, his recruitment scene made me squee in a pure gamerMD style and I loved the scene in which he carves the griffon :3 I still like him and yes, even love him but after watching some videos on the tube I'm totally convinced that Cullenmancers received a much, much better treatment both in terms of dialogues than in terms of romantic scenes and the sex scene on the desk reminds me a lot of a scene I wrote in my fiction actually :P

The Cullen romance does look very interesing. I'm going to try his romance next, see how the two compare. I'll probably also try out Dorian (I never make guy characters if there's an option for a woman, but for Dorian I'll make an exception), and maybe Solas if I can get my nerve up to have my heart smashed, from the bits and pieces of spoilers I've seen.

Of course, that's all conjecture now. We'll see how well I do staying away from Blackwall! And I still have to finish the game... lol. I might get farther if I stopped going back to saves and replaying scenes and trying all the dialogue... ;)

Also it seems Cole details just how amorous Blackwall is towards Josephine, but nothing for the inquisitor... his feelings  for our inquisitor aren't strong enough for Cole to read I guess. <_< I think (where companions can get together) they appear to be happier together than with our inquisitors. Yeah...No thank you! I'll stick with Cullen (sad he is not a companion).

As I said in another thread, the scary part is that Blackwall still does what he does with Josephine even after she and the Inquisitor become a couple, meaning he basically stalks your girlfriend.

Good luck!

My first play through I was SURE I was going to romance Solas....after all, I was playing an elf!

Then the flirt line popped up with Cullen and I took it, and continued to take them...he's so awkward!

But then the flirt options with Blackwall.....and I don't know at what point my elf tossed aside Cullen.....but she never looked back.

Are you certain? Did this happen to you? Sylvia and I went to great lengths to try to make sure this didn't happen. The banters from the rogues that mention it should not appear unless the Inquisitor has committed to a relationship with someone else. We figured this would be best, just in case you decided to romance Josephine later in the game.

I got Sera banter about Josie and Blackwall while romancing him. (And it was after the romance had completed) I am not a good example though, because I have the big banter issue, and it was actually the only Blackwall Sera banter I ever got (before I started doing the testing in the banter thread) despite having them in my party the entire game.

...I am pretty sure it was supposed to be a banter for unromanced BW, at least.

Yeah, after the final scene in the Josephine romance I had Cole and Blackwall's banter about it happen. But maybe it was just a bug in the banter.

I do like that Blackwall's romance is a more mature, less....Harlequin romance. But it could have been more...intimate, especially if after Revelations you decide to stay in a relationship with him. Although his whole line at the end when he sees you survived.....*smiles, quietly heartwarming, especially saying in front of the whole troop*

That reminds me, when is his personal quest supposed to unlock?

I did his "find all warden stuff" collection and I'm past Adamant fortress, but it hasn't shown up yet.

Is it romance related?

So I'm taking a break from posting walls of text about Blackwall (probably not for long...) but just had to share this short exchange between him and Vivienne after her personal quest (obvious spoilers):

I think you need to do the Winter Palace quest first?

Did you find the badge?

Also, you need to complete both Adamant and Wicked Hearts.

Was there ever a clear number on what Blackwall's age is? I imagine he's at least in his late 30s based on what he looks like in the game.

  1. What there is in the codex indicates that he won the Grand Tourney at 18 and disappeared with his gold.
  2. When he showed up two years later, he was penniless, and that's when he joined the Orlesian army at age 20.
  3. The incident took place in 9:35 when he was a captain in the army, and the Inquisition takes place in 9:41, so that's another six years of time.
  4. Together, this accounts for at least eight years in his life, with no one knowing exactly how much time he spent in the army climbing the ranks to captain.
  5. You have to figure it would take a while to get promoted (even if he had some fame left over from winning the Grand Tourney), so he was probably enlisted for over a decade, maybe? Although I suppose it's possible to get promoted faster if you're good at the Game, etc.

After all that, I would go with something in the range of 38-42 or perhaps. The mystery would be solved with the exact date of the Grand Tourney - heh.

Okay so not spoilering myself but now I’ve hit the drama end of the romance so just some thoughts from me and comments are welcome about what I say here (in fact I almost feel like I need a shoulder to cry on about it).

Blackwall is easily my favorite NPC in this game.  He's a real **** kicker, but he is also no dummy.  I like my parties to have some no-nonsense killers that just get the job done and don't whine about every little thing.  Also, just from a gameplay perspective he is one of the top NPC's for a nightmare run.  Dude is almost unkillable.

Seriously. My "let's kill us some dragons" party is Blackwall, Cassandra, and Vivienne. I'm running a squishy DW rogue, so I love the fact that once BW and Cass have their guard maxed, they're pretty much invincible, expecially once BW gets his Walking Fortress.

Hah we have similar taste.  I roll with Blackwall and Viv too.  Only difference is I take Varric because I'm already a warrior.
