Seriously.  I liked Vivienne a lot overall, but I genuinely hated most of the things she said to Blackwall.  It's one thing to be angry at him after the revelation, as many companions are, but she just seems needlessly bitchy to him from the very start.

 

To be fair, she's bitchy to most people. But yeah she's so hard on him. Even when he's just trying to be nice. 

 

Yeah I don't doubt she's exaggerating but at the same time there feels like yes there's some truth there.

 

(That said yeah Vivi is hilariously b***hy to him.)

 

Oh I have no doubt that he's not as discrete as he thinks he is. I just don't think it's that bad

The thing is, she could well be exaggering by a truly massive amount, not just a bit.  Given how adeptly she can use words to skewer others, making even the tiniest social misstep look like a national disaster, whatever she noticed could well have been almost nothing.

 

Yeah I guess this is a YMMV situation. I can agree on exaggeration but we clearly differ on how much.

I enjoy the Viv/Blackwall dynamic.  Socially speaking she's above him in status - her being mistress to... who was it again?  Someone important from memory.  LOL

There is one banter during a Blackwall romance playthrough where he retaliates pretty heavily upon her, and she's left silent by it I think.  I was like O_o heel, Blackwall, heel.

I don't actually have an opinion on how much exaggeration is involved - I just think it could be anything from a little to tons.  There really isn't enough info to be sure.

Yeah, I actually thought that was a mean thing of him to say (if you mean the one where he says he looks forward to the day when her façade crumbles).  Firstly, even before I guessed his full story, I would have preferred him to rise above how petty and mean she was being to him (even though, given that he'd not very polished socially, it's unrealistic to expect that he'd manage this totally).  Secondly,

he knows all about façades, doesn't he?  His life becomes a painful shambles when his own façade crumbles.  And I feel sorry for Viv when she has that difficult moment in her story with Bastien...  At least Blackwall offers his condolences when that happens...  And, of course, she tells him not to bother himself.  Damn it, Viv!

She totally deserved that, though. If we're talking about the same one, that was pre-revelation and Vivienne basically decided it'd be funny to point out that there's no future between the Inquisitor and 'doomed Warden' Blackwall and that she should have chosen better. I'm sure that's exactly what a couple wants to be thinking about, thanks for reminding them.

Would you even have time to romance somebody else afterwards? The personal quest is after Halamshiral, and assuming you did that last, you've probably missed all the triggers for everyone else at that point.

Having just listened back to the banter, the ultimate thrust of Vivienne's needling Blackwall re. Josephine appears to come in her final line: "You're pathetically far beneath her."  It seems to be more of a class issue than anything else.  In another banter, she bemoans the fact that he's not a chevalier instead of a "low-life thug."  And this is all before the big reveal.

Bastien - found her personal story with him moving. It's clear that she does have a heart; I think the sharp tongue and the ability to skewer someone with a few deft words is almost a necessity in Orlais.

EDIT: I sincerely hate typing on my iPad - bloody typos. Also, as someone who can be a flaming b----- on the level of Viv, we're just a little bit simpatico - haha.

It could be him commenting on her being classist in general.  Nobility have a limited pool to pick from because they have to keep up appearances and etc., the Inquisitor is powerful, influential, AND she's free to love whoever she chooses.

Has anyone asked Sera what she thinks of Blackwall after the judgement? She totally made me laugh. She must say different things, depending on how your quest went.

I chose to have him stay and atone. When I went and talked to Sera, asking her what she thought about him, the conversation went like this:

 

Inquisitor: Any thoughts on Warden Blackwell?

 

Sera: Right. "Warden." Good liar, that one. Should give lessons. Suppose he kind of did. Soldiers do nasty ****. Knew you'd let him stay. I like him, too. Not like you. Too beardy and... I suppose parts.
