After recruiting Blackwall last night, I found myself having to be a little 'mean' to him or pick options i know he wouldn't like so I'm not tempted.

ha ha ha.

He does not like Quizzies saying, 'Yes, I am in fact the Herald of Andraste and touched by the Maker Himself.'

I used up all my likes on the past 7 pages that I missed yesterday, but I totes LIKE your comment Jaulen: 'Yes, I am in fact the Herald of Andraste and touched by the Maker Himself.'

That's only the 2nd time I've used all my likes up.  I think the other time was when Blackwall was announced as an LI <3

Weird question, imo, but what age do you imagine your Inquisitors who romance Blackwall to be? I started my game as a Trevelyan and I imagine her to be like 27 but I second guess myself on doing the Blackwall romance because I keep thinking of Blackwall's age (I like to imagine he's 38 at least) and being too old for a romance with her.

I imagined mine to be 25 or so. A young adult. Considering the times I felt it was okay for them to get together.

Well, my Inquisitor looks younger (hey, I wanted her to be pretty), but I mentally say: "yep, you're late 30s/early 40s like me!" At any rate, Blackwall's supposed to be in his mid-40s - a few pages back someone pointed out that a dev had said that he was mid-40s (before that I guessed at 38-42, which at least wasn't too far off - lol).

I kind of envisioned my Inquisitor as being around 36/38/around there.

Yeah, I've pretty much been using up all my Likes in here - that or the "What Did You Do Today in DA:I?" thread because that one is fun, too. Probably the first time ever that I've actually hit the "Like" limit every day. I essentially went on a long, long forum vacation after ME3 (let's just say that the endless back & forth got old).

It was only around when Blackwall was officially announced as LI that I finally started getting interested in the forums again - lol. I mean, I had been lurking and reading DA:I stuff with the occasional post, but at that point my reaction to the announcement was (albeit in a more understated way than the following semi-comedic description): "Grey Warden? Armor? Tall*, dark, handsome in a rugged lumberjack/warrior kind of way? Possibly tragic and angsty (but not Fenris-angsty because that was kind of annoying)? YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!"

* I'm short, so basically almost any guy qualifies as tall even if he's technically not super tall. I figure most guys in the game are at least way over 5'2" - lol.

I totally   this comment:

"Grey Warden? Armor? Tall*, dark, handsome in a rugged lumberjack/warrior kind of way? Possibly tragic and angsty (but not Fenris-angsty because that was kind of annoying)? YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!" (mmmm.....lumberjack/warrior)

My elf I figured was mid 30's, after all my clan sent me to go observe the shems and see how this might effect the Dalish.....figure some young hot-head wouldn't be a good candidate for that.

My human mage early to mid 30's

Just seems to be a better age for 'doing what needs to be done'.

I just can't headcannon people like Cass and Cullen getting behind a 20 year old Quizzy....or the masses being willing to follow. I think a young quizzy would be seen as being a puppet, while someone older might be a little more....'follow worthy' Maker chosen or not.

Yeah, I figure that if you were chosen to attend that Conclave, you should have had at least a few years of experience under your belt. I think the situations is a bit different from DA:O where you were supposed to just be this young, raw Warden recruit plucked out of semi-obscurity who was supposed to be learning the ropes from his/her mentor (well, you were supposed to be doing that until things went completely sideways at Ostagar, etc.).

Speaking of DA:O, I loved Alistair for his goofy charm (and I do think he's smarter than he lets on), but Blackwall is probably closer to my type. Anders (my DA2 LI) had the tortured artist a la Vincent van Gogh thing going on - am ever so grateful that he didn't chop off an ear and give it to me...but I wasn't really down with blowing up the Chantry despite understanding the motivation and that it would be a trigger for change in Thedas.

Urgh I remember that banter. I just went oh really Vivvy? You're not friends, you have no say in the Inquisitors love life.

My Inquisitor would tell her to mind her own business, she doesn't poke her nose in her personal affairs so Vivienne can atleast grant her the same courtesy.

It could be him commenting on her being classist in general.  Nobility have a limited pool to pick from because they have to keep up appearances and etc., the Inquisitor is powerful, influential, AND she's free to love whoever she chooses.

To be fair to Vivienne though the Inquisitor is basically a Warlord.

Don't have to worry about what others think of you when your military power rivals Orlais.

I play this inquisitor (human rogue) as mid/late thirties. It might change on other playthroughs, depending on race, and the background I've created for them. I liked that most of the companions are older to match. Since I'm early 40's myself, I think I lean towards making my characters  older. Even for  DAO, I imagine my wardens a bit older than what the general consensus seems to be. I even bump Alistair up to his 20's, and just say he was very sheltered ;) Sigh. Alistair. I'll always be a little in love with him, like you are with a first love. Then came Anders! I fell in love with Anders in Awakenings, even wrote mountains of fanfic for him. Then it all turned into AU when DA2 happened! *shakes fist at justice* I still couldn't keep away from him in DA2, most of my Hawke's romanced him.

I've only done the Blackwall romance so far, and I have a feeling it's going to be really hard to keep away him in my next playthroughs. He's just got it all. Dark and brooding, but not too brooding; wanting to do the right thing and believing in a higher purpose, but not naive; a dark past, but a hopeful future (in this playthrough, at least!); a man trying to be a better person for all the horrible mistakes he made. I do love a good redemption story! (Angel from Buffy, Hook from OUAT, the list goes on.) Plus, I'm just a sucker for that brawny, lumberjack dark-haired type.

I really do want to try out Cullen's story, because it seems so rich (especially on a mage character... my Amell flirted with him in DAO). And I have to do Dorian's romance, because one, my girl is totally BFF with him right now and they love flirting just to flirt, and two, he reminds me a little of Awakening Anders, before DA2 went down.

Welp, I knew my Inquisitor and Blackwall should have chosen somewhere more private than the freaking barn to "relax". Sera just gleefully told him she knows about the two of them scaring horses and "getting hay up your nooks and crannies". Jeez, Blackwall, just move into the Inquisitor's quarters already. It has candles and a soft bed! And a bath!

(I only mention the bath because now THREE companions have raised the subject of Blackwall's alleged lack of personal hygiene...personally, I think they're just trying to be mean. The beard looks pretty well-groomed to me.)

Hah! I just got this conversation also. I only caught part of it, because they decided to have this conversation in the middle of redcliffe with people talking all around us. So I had to go look up their banter on youtube, and it's wonderfully hilarious. I love them. From the video, they each comment on the other's relationship, and if it breaks up, they each console one another (in their own way). Sera is really growing on me. How can I not love her, when she loves Blackwall? (not like I do of course, because as she puts it, the beard and the... parts.)

I think I'm in the minority here (hah, puns!), but I see my Trevelyan that's romancing him as being on the cusp of twenty-one. Young, sassy, caustic. His foil, more or less. I kinda wanted to accentuate the May/December thing. Of course it helps that I, myself, am young (23) -- I can more easily put myself in her shoes. I totally understand wanting to romance him with someone closer to his own age though, with the equality angle going for them. That in itself is very appealing.

That's what's so nice about DA:I, they really left the background open, so you can create whatever type of backstory works for you!

It also gives more leeway on playing through with similar characters, each of my Trevelyan's can have a different story!

I finally finished the game tonight and have to say that the Blackwall romance was pretty fantastic. Well worth waiting for! The dark reveal really knocked me for a loop but I went with it and am glad I did. I know I'll want to romance him on my next playthrough and it will be so hard not to so I've made a male Qunari to romance Dorian (also an awesome character).

On the age thing, I pegged my Inquisitor at about 35 or so and figure Blackwall was about 45ish. I'm in my 40s so it worked out well for me this time. I romanced Alistair in DAO the first time around and he was way too naive and puppyish to be interesting. Cute! But not for me. I stuck with Zevran in my other playthroughs. I'm really pleased Bioware had some older companions as well as younger ones. It was a nice balance I think.

Well, this was moderately funny - talked to the barkeep to see if there were any new rumors and got the following lines from him...

Cabot: The horses are spooked. Strange noises were heard in the loft. Things going bump in the night.

Proceeded to lol.

My Quizzie was designed for Sera, so she was very young...I quickly added 5 years to her age so that the BW thing wasn't too weird for me. (I like age differences ok, but I made a Quizzie younger than me! So I figured age her up a bit so she's at least close to my age since I went a different direction)

I loved Sera and Blackwall's friendship. I got a taste of it (and the Dorian-Blackwall) relationship while banter testing and it made me super glad I used them together the most.

Sera and Dorian felt like Blackwall and Hella's niece and cousin that they acquired after they got kicked out of their families and then formed one very dysfunctional family of trashy, but good hearted outcasts, lol.

When Dorian and Blackwall finally started getting along, I was so relieved. Stressful to have the bestie and the bf snapping at eachother like that.

To me the age thing came 2nd when romancing him. I think of my Inquisitor is about my age age ( 26-ish). Family background made her like Blackwall because she was religious and always though of other people first and the beard thing too. :D

I think Solas and Blackwall have a deeper relationship after it. Certainly not as...carefree? But on a certain level, they both were doing the same thing and both used their friendship to sort of prop that up...which Solas recognizes, eventually.

I imagined my Inquisitor to be in her late 20s. Whenever he'd push her away she'd wonder if it was age, race, position, or something that made him do it. Poor girl, she could have never imagined...

Not the biggest fan of Sera but her banter and friendship with Blackwall is really nice. I remember sparing him and getting a single "Sera approves" from the decision.

Now I'm sad Anders didn't do that, tbh.

...that's the level of melodrama I find desirable in a videogame LI. No wonder I like Blackwall so much.

(Specifying fiction because my real life husband is very stable and drama free and that's the way I like it, )

I like it when characters fight and reconcile. It strengthens relationships, IMO. I enjoyed this with Kaidan, Fenris, Isabela, and now Blackwall. The only one who never came back was Alistair. *cue Judy Garland's sad rendition of "The Man That Got Away"* :crying:

I'm thinking that the Blackwall romance appeals to some of us *ahem* more mature ladies! Maximum drama on screen and page, minimum drama in real life!

LOL
