Ah, the joy of circular discussions. I'll just be over here, waiting for it to be over. Again.

Actually, this is the Blackwall discussion thread. And that was my original goal, yes. I wanted to understand the character so I wouldn't hate him as much, but the discussio and all the defending of his actions had instead steeled my resolve(no pun intended).

He was using Blackwall's name to hide from his past and in a misguided idea of having a bad man to die and a good one live on. But acting out the part of the Heroic Grey Warden as Blackwall, fighting with the Inquisition, and even falling in love with Inquisitor has made him realize the error of his ways and found the "Resolve" to hide no more. That is why so far into the story and with high approval he goes to Val Royxeu to face his long overdue punishment. Now, the Inquisitor can either allow him to die or save him and have him "Resolve" to atone for his sins as himself, using Blackwall's name not as a shield from his past but as a title and ideal to live up to, by serving the Inquisition and later the Wardens if you decide.

That's his character arc, pretty much. It's up to you if it's good enough or not.

The hell. So, I think Blackwall is nice, but I don't plan on romancing him, so I looked it up on YouTube. I saw the scene where he first kisses the Inquisitor. Maybe it's because it's late and I get more emotional at night, but I started CRYING when I saw that. That **** was SAD. I'm STILL choked up.  :crying:

Nicely done, writers, nicely done. Actually, I even like him a whole lot more now. If each playthrough wasn't about 100 hours each, I might even romance him.

@Kallen: Congrats! Now you're trying to take a quote by a really famous sci-fi author about how human stupidity is as common as the most common element in the universe and are attempting to turn it into something!

I'm just going to point out that Harlan Ellison is known for being, shall we say, somewhat acerbic and sharp-tongued, along with being a gifted and talented writer (with some anger management issues, perhaps). So please allow me to take a moment to laugh my butt off over this latest attempt by you to create controversy: lolololololololol.

Ellison's comment, my dear, is not directed at a single person. It's simply his opinion on how blind and mind-numbingly oblivious people in general can be at times. And if you actually read what I said carefully, I didn't say anything that could be construed as a direct attack. Sarcasm? Yes. Vicious attack? Probably not (opinions may vary, I suppose). Then again, maybe you're overly sensitive - I don't really care what your problem is at this point.

  • I have said your arguments are inane, because they simply are - especially since you willfully ignore all the people who respond to you with legitimate counters to your "arguments."
    • Example: Several people have now pointed out multiple times that Grey Wardens don't normally even get funerals because of the Calling. What happens is that they go to the Deep Roads when their time comes, kill as many darkspawn as they can, and then they die. They don't get funerals held for them in the Deep Roads.
  • I also said that never before has my quote been more appropriate. Why? Because you brought up the puppy story again as yet another inane (and I am allowed to use the word in the context of written statements) "argument" to try to shore up your belief that Blackwall is Mr. Evil, when - apparently - the full context of the story is that he was a young boy AND was outnumbered at the time (if I understand what happened correctly).

Can't take the heat in here? Get out of the kitchen. Frankly, I don't see you changing anyone's minds, and I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish except to create drama. Honestly, I am now starting to believe the other people who pointed out that this is what you tend to do in threads. If you actually have anything interesting, substantive, and insightful to say other than to constantly cite the same exact statements about puppies, funerals, and/or stolen identities vis-a-vis Blackwall, I'd really like to see it.

And rather like Blackwall, I am perfectly willing to own up to my own actions if a mod sees a problem with anything that I have written or if they have an issue with my signature. However, I'm pretty sure that the mods are reasonably intelligent people who might conceivably be familiar with a sci-fi giant like Ellison and that they might be understanding of the nature of the quote.

EDIT: FYI, should a mod decide to punish me, it won't end with me snogging them Blackwall-style in front of everyone while I am being judged (uh, unless the mod in question looks like Blackwall... *cough*).

Heh, I went for Blackwall first because of the kind of man that I thought he was. Woops! Well, it worked out for the best seeing as he's the most interesting man in Thedas...okay, technically the title probably belongs to Solas at this point, but he has a sexy beard - that has to count for something!

One of my favorite characters of all time, that I have spent a lot of time in fandom with, is Loki. Also Jaime Lannister. So I am an old hat at this. Just don't bother engaging, haha. Once someone's strawman argument gets lost in a torrent of nuanced discussion, they tend to get bashful or bored and walk away.

...not that there's anything wrong with just finding Blackwall hot. I mean, young Stalin was a babe and that'd be a weird thing to fixate on, but Blackwall is fictional, so who gives a crap.

Yeah it's either him or Dorian. Varric too, because of his sexy chest.
Wait now I know why I don't want to romance Solas...

I'm not sure if allowing people to play dress-up with their companions was the greatest idea BioWare has ever had or the worst.

Well, just look on the bright side. There is no need to worry about "mom I'm so gonna join the grey warden now just like dad did. He would be so proud of me if he was still with us" kind of heartbreaking conversation because you know...the calling and everything. Not that the inquisitor is a risk-free job though.

Well, if we go north like Bioware has been implying then we will be right next to the Anderfels, Grey Warden central. So hopefully next game we get a genuine knight in shining armor Grey Warden veteran.

We've had too many dark Grey Wardens. It'd be nice to see them at their ideals again. The only ones we have are Alistair and Stroud, and both of them could be dead. Plus some people want a gay KISA, so the Warden companion could be that for them if they are homosexual.

Gay KISA yeeees! I don't mind BI though. But I can't make myself look forward to the next game, knowing that it won't happen for quite some time. Too bad they've decided not making companion DLCs.
