sayid was the bomb.... should have voiced dorian imoOMG guys, I think I understand the reason why I've taken to Blackwall so much as a character... I was a huge fan of the show LOST, a tv series all about redemption and regret.
My favourite character... Sayid Jarrah, torturer, murderer of innocents, former soldier in the Iraq Republican Guard...
Mind... Blown.

Totally loved Lost too (maybe I didn't quite approve of the ending, but I still loved it anyway) - and yeah, Sayid's past...yikes. *pats Sayid*

its a double edged blade having that logic can make someone a downer and while occassionaly disagree with you i prefer your optimisim.
And TBF how do check to make sure cory was dead? The bastard pulls captian ginyuus alot. And blackwall isnt as bad as you claim he was a soldier following orders and it was a fubar situation and he seeks atonement? Doesnt you moral code ask for forgivness?
But 99% of the time I try optimism the result is only negative.
Well, they can always do what Rainier says the Wardens do to the Archdemon. "Stab it enough times until they know it's dead" or however he said it. ![]()
He was a soldier that was paid blood money by a noble to do the mission, not just following orders. If the noble who bribed him was his direct superior and just ordered him to do it, then it would be like what you say. But people don't want me to talk about this anymore, so I'm trying not to for them, hence not replying to their posts. And yes, it does ask that.

Hey guys, wanted to know if you fellow Blackwall admirers could help me find something. After you complete Blackwall's quest and pass judgement on him, there will be a special line of diologue you can select if he spoke at Adamant and got the Grey Wardens to stand down. Something to the effect of "You're not a Grey Warden, but they listened to you at Adamant." His response was actually really profound, and I've been trying to find exactly what he says. Do any of you guys know of any where I could go to find it?

@Aisabel: Yeah, that deer story was sad. *pat pat* I think most of us understand that sometimes there are just situations like that where you really can't reasonably be expected to do anything.
And in a semi-awkward transition to a different topic...lol@that song!

I think it was something about how it takes an outsider to make you see how much you've lost your way. I wish I could remember the whole thing, it was a really nice line!

Awwww I just finished a fight where Hella took damage (this is very rare at this point) and Blackwall said "Are you alright, love?"
Is that a common comment? I hadn't heard it before! But I have the banter issue and I'm a stealthy high level rogue with Blackwall tanking, so I rarely take damage.
aw I never heard he talk like that in game but I've saw someone uploaded on youtube today

I just remembered I saved my game a lot for when I am finally done and want to start recording my playthrough. I think I might have a save that was saved not to long before the judgement. I'll go play it and see what he says.

Well, I'd argue that seeing a deer being hit by a truck and left to die(sorry you had to witness that btw
) is different than watching a dog being hanged by terrible children. A person can't stop a truck, but they can cut a rope.

I came across a playlist on 8tracks yesterday that was based on their interpretation of Blackwall's character and story, somewhat less humorous than that one Aisabel posted. Unsurprisingly many were about, regret, redemption and seeking forgiveness. And of course they had to play Hallelujah didn't they!?! That one always draws a tear for me.

I know. I was just saying that unlike the sad thing that Aisabel witnessed, the dog situation was one where someone could have done something to stop it from happening.

Uhm, I see a lot of manichaeism in judging Rainier's actions. Evil is a very strong word and I would'nt use it to define a man who made one single mistake and spent the rest of his life repenting and trying to do all the good he could.
I would call evil someone who chooses a life of crime, someone who routinely kills innocents without the slightest remorse... evil would have been a man who'd let Mornay be executed in his stead and kept hiding behind the disguise of warden Blackwall.
Rainier was a good man who made a mistake and made of it an opportunity to change his life, to become the man he always wanted to be and never had the chance. What he lacked was perhaps determination and he needed a boost to find the courage to change his life, but when the occasion came he seized upon it without flinching. Evil would have been a man who took advantage on the inquisitor's crush on him without caring of being 'the man she deserved' ...
....
oh Blackwall
http://en.wikipedia....pe_by_deception
This was my biggest issue with Blackwall. I could have forgiven him for what he did, but the way he ran with it for so long, and refused to tell me anything until after I slept with him. This was beyond slimeball. There is a big consent issue here. Has anyone else considered this?

In the interests of accuracy here: he was paid by Robert Chapuis to kill Lord Callier, and he was definitely not ordered to do it by anyone to my knowledge. The thing is that Chapuis appears to have lied to Rainier about Lord Callier being alone. So it seems (based on what we do know) that Rainier got played and was an unwitting dupe himself, kind of in the same way that he used his own men, which is more than a little ironic.
Chapuis was trying to gain Gaspard's favor according to the codex, and I'm going to make a wild (but logical, I believe) guess that Chapuis thought the only thing better than eliminating a thorn in Gaspard's side (Lord Callier who was one of Celene's major supporters) would be to engineer the extermination of the entire Callier family at the same time. It's not a huge leap to realize that if you leave any scions of a family alive, that one day they will take over and will probably try to exact revenge, etc.
I would posit that the massacre backfired on Chapuis because of the horrific nature of the crime, which I think was pretty bad even by Orlesian standards. And while the actual massacre was happening, Rainier realized way too late that he had been played. I kind of feel like the whole thing was just a bit Red Wedding-esque, albeit on a smaller scale.
