The absolute fawning I did over Garrus with my main canon Shep was another eyerolling event in our house (that one lasted a long time - dat turian  :P )

I can't say it was love at first sight though, I didn't even know you could romance anyone in Bioware games until I played ME2 would you believe!!  How I played through ME1 awkward combat 3 times and never even got ninjamanced is beyond me.  I didn't join the forums until after I'd played ME2 so didn't even know raptor dude was a romance option.

THen I came onto the forums here and learnt a whole pile about things I'd missed (not just romance)

I wasn't sold on Blackwall as a LI, or on any of the LI to be honest because I wasn't sure how the character would pan out in the game for me - I thought that playing a femqunari would send me in Iron Bull's direction, but it didn't.

I was about to say Veeia - PHOTOSHOP!

I had NO interest in Blackwall, haha. Mostly becuase I knew nothing about him other than he took Grey Wardens really seriously, and Hella's concept was basically "dwarf hipster", so I didn't think they'd get along at all. I did think he was pretty hot but I also wanted to do a f/f romance first. But then he happened and. Sigh. I didn't expect this. I didn't want this. But maybe, just maybe, it was what I needed. :P

(After I finished the romance I texted one of my friends "I'M SO FREAKED OUT BY THIS ROMANCE IT'S LIKE IT WAS CUSTOM MADE FOR ME LIKE SHERYL CHEE CAME TO MY HOUSE AND SAID MERRY F*CKING CHRISTMAS HERE'S A BLACKWALL", lmao)

As far as the PC patch, it messed up graphics but there is a workaround posted by Conal Pierse until the hotfix is available on page 69 of this thread: http://forum.bioware...patch-2/page-69

And as far as Blackwall is concerned I was interested in him from the moment they showed his Grey Warden concept with Cassandra.  I was not disappointed.  I knew he was lying, but not what about.  I loved him.  I hated him.  I cried.  I stressed.  I forgave.  He was everything I wanted and didn't even know it.

   Better than Christmas Veeia.  That only comes once a year!

I was surprised at Sera's reaction to me (she's got a thing for femqunari) and I think I mentioned a friend did the romance with her and loved it.

Soooo many choices.  Next playthrough is my dalish snarky mage dude, perfect fit for Dorian, or perhaps Cass - or then maybe Iron Bull, *flails*

But then do I roll a fem elf (who is my least favourite gender/race combo) cos I'm loving Solas VA (I think Gareth David lloyd has the the best voice in the game tbh)

Anyway for now, Blackwall.  Hot bearded older romance dude who can dance and says all the right things even when you know he's lied in the past *more flailing*

Solas is my first Inquisition love, I must admit. He was the one I was most excited for, and looking forward to.. And he's overtaken Alistair and Fenris as my new favorite. I just wish he had more content. Just.. Be prepared to have your heart ripped out and shredded. Get some wine or cocoa, and a box of tissues.

I haven't played a Qunari yet, but I really want to make Sera and Iron Bull scrap over her.  Might be because I'm a terrible person. I plan on romancing them both after Blackwall and Cullen.

I currently have 3 playthroughs going. My Dalish mage who romanced Solas, and is super buggy. I want to restart her, in hopes of having fewer bugs. My Cullen romancing mage Trevelyan. And my Blackwall romancing mage Trevelyan, who I've been playing most recently.

Should I do wicked hearts or adamant first for my Blackwall romance? I was originally thinking Adamant, but now I'm leaning towards wicked hearts.. That dance gif.

Sheryl did an amazing job writing Blackwall's romance. Though, I've yet to find a romance that I haven't loved. So I might be biased on the love train. :P

And that romance card for Blackwall does things to me. I just. I can't even.

My poor fiance has had to deal with me fangirling over multiple different characters for the last few weeks. And now it's exam time, and I still can't stop fangirling.

Whew, thanks for the heads-up on that. Got the super-shiny hair thing earlier when I launched the game earlier after patching it - have to mention this to my friend later if he hasn't heard about the workaround yet. I admit that I cringed bit when I saw shiny hair. As for Blackwall, I tried not to get my hopes up after he was first revealed even though he seemed like my type. So immensely grateful that he was an option after all and that he actually had a far more interesting past (and story) than I was expecting.

I tried to go into the game with an open mind as to who I would romance. I actually stayed away from the boards and pretty much all spoilers for the game. I knew the names of the companions and had seen the official artwork here and there, but other than Cullen (since I knew him prior to the game, and have had friends that were Cullen-crazy since DAO) I wasn't sure on who any of the romances would be.

When I first played DAO, I'd had no idea what was going to happen. I remember how wonderful it felt meeting Alistair and with every conversation falling harder and harder (luckily my first playthrough was a Cousland, so it ended well). The newness of the game and the characters made everything a surprise, and I felt much more connected to the game. On DA2 I was completely spoilered, and never felt quite the wonderment I did (and still do) playing DAO.

So for this game, I decided to keep away from everything and go in with no expectations. I don't know if it's the game, or having it all be unspoiled, but I've loved it soo much. And Blackwall    What a wonderful, heartbreaking, heartracing story to find myself in! Felt like he was practically tailor made for me. (Though I'll never be over the rose Alistair gave my Warden, ahhh first love.)

Also, this is the first game since DAO where I'm really excited and inspired to play it more than once, and make more characters. I did three full runs of DA2 -- mage, rogue, warrior; but they mush together in my head, indistinct from one another. Here, I feel like I can do more play throughs and have different characters once again!

I did Adamant first.

I swear, everytime I hear that I think

@Nhadalie: I would do Wicked Hearts first - think you get slightly more subtle hints about his past, while also getting to take a breather and have a dance before things get heavier in Here Lies the Abyss, but that's just my personal preference.

Even if I didn't stay away from the boards (was pretty active in the feminquisitor thread on the feedback and suggestions section) I rarely ventured into the character threads in case any expectations were going to built that the game would smash down and grind into the dirt.

I think a lot were expecting Blackwall to

Spoiler

I'm glad I didn't have those expectations to dash.

I did Adam Ant first. (oh how I would've wished that was true in the 80's). But that was because I thought gameplay-wise you were supposed to, since it took less influence points to get to it, and Hawke and everyone was all, YOU HAVE TO DO THIS NOW. So I was like, okay, fine I'll go do this now!

On my next playthrough I might change the order. The quests are very different, so it might just depend on what you feel like doing.

Wicked Hearts was more finding clues, talking to people, getting little hints about characters, and getting the nice little conversation with your LI at the very end of it. It took me a long time to do, because I wanted to be very thorough in exploring the entire castle and getting all the evidence.

Adamant was very fast paced, with lots of fighting and action. It also had some clues about characters, given by the demon as it tried to needle your companions. There is also a huge choice at the end (at least it was for me), that made me leave the game for the night and really think about things. I took quite a while after that finished to just hang out at the castle, because I was a little burnt out emotionally and just wanted to talk to all the companions.

Yeah, I think it made appreciating Blackwall's character easier for me. I didn't even know he was going to be a Grey Warden until it came up in game to find him!

I was actually really worried about that before. It's part of why I wasn't interested in romancing him until I found out more by playing the game.

@Nhadalie, I think he's more interesting for it, but definitely a YMMV.  I already see he's evoked some strong feelings from some people.

I've seen some of the kissing scenes for other romances (not anyone I don't want to be spoilered for though like Solas, Cass or Dorian) and I did like Cullen's kiss that startles the inquisitor.  Unexpected/sudden kisses are always nice, like a reward for doing nothing.

I haven't seen any bad kissing scenes. My only one complaint about Blackwall's is that I wish they had more than just a single kiss in the extra kissing scene. Wanting more is never really a problem.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Blackwall and the Quizzy had sex after the kissing scene in her quarters, when he begs her to tell him to leave? The way they were kissing.. It seemed like it was a lead up to a suggested sex scene.

Solas's are intense. That's all I'm going to say. His romance is great. I really do suggest it. I'm holding out hope for future DLC though.

Cullen's surprise kiss scene was also great. He was all "HANG ON, WE'RE OUT HERE FOR A REASON. YOU CAN'T RUN AWAY NOW! ~SMOOCH~"

His extra kiss scene on the ramparts is sweet, but not as good as Blackwall's. They kiss for a moment, then he walks away leaving the Inquisitor leaning against the ramparts looking needy.  It's a cute little thing. But not as intense as Blackwall's in the doorway kisses.

You are not the only one! There's no way my quizzy let Blackwall walk out of her room that night. nuh-uh. Not after kissing like that, with that great big bed right near by.

I loved Cullen's surprise kiss so much, caught me unawares and totally made me go, 'unnfff'.  But, I agree, Blackwall's extra kiss scene is so melt-worthy. Every time I'm at skyhold I have to run over for some doorway kissing, just because. I haven't checked on Dorian's kisses yet, because I want to have that surprise melt personally when it happens. It's a good thing Dorian wasn't available for girls, or Blackwall would've had some competition during my first game!

Hahha yeah Hella totally ripped his clothes off. She's not a shy girl. I like that it was ambiguous, and then could be explicit later, if you wanted. More room for variation for different Quizzies is always good! :)

Unff! No leaving the bedroom. I don't think Blackwall would've needed much encouragement either. I suspect they didn't make it to the bed. There's a couch right next to the stair rail.

I also love Blackwall's first flirt in Haven. Especially the direct approach, I went back and picked it just to giggle. "There are more compliments, if you'd like. I keep them in my private quarters." And then Blackwall shows up in her private quarters!

I do love the snark though. And the fact that Blackwall doesn't think he's charming. It's endearing. Snarking at him after calling him charming makes my day, then telling him he's most useful as dragon bait.

I haven't made it to Dorian yet as anything other than my BFF. Like super BFFs. I just.. I can't help myself. My flirty friend needs me.

Well I know Ciara and Blackwall did.  That kiss was too passionate not to have lead to something more.

Hah! I just went back yesterday and tried out that line, about more compliments in her private quarters. I love that he's so undone by that, he doesn't even know how to respond. He has to think about it. The only bad thing is it stops the conversation. The nice & snarky lines move the conversation forward a little more.

My favorite to choose there is the 'compliments or women?' snarky line, since it's so my inquisitors personality and it makes him laugh. I think you get more approval with the nice line, but I never cared about that, since I get so much approval throughout the game. Plus, anything to make him laugh. I like to think being around my inquisitor brings some lightness into his life, even with everything that's going on.

Dorian is my BFF forever and a day. I love him so much. I was so happy the game gave you a chance to tell him never to stop flirting, and that he loved the line. I'm also happy that Blackwall and Dorian are pretty much friends by the end of the game. Wasn't nice when my two guys kept sniping at one another!

At first it reminded me of the cover of a romance novel. Then I fell in love with the romance. And unf.

All of the romances have been fantastic this game. I can't believe how worried people were before in retrospect. The characters, and their romances are all wins.

I have a bit of trouble playing male characters. But for Dorian? I'll try. He deserves some loving too. Cass can wait until I let my fiance play. So.. 5 years from now? Maybe. Not that I don't adore Cass, but I'm going to still be busy romancing all of these people then.

Edit:

I love his response to the compliments in her private quarters line. He's so surprised he's not sure whether to laugh or be embarrassed. And he has this laugh-coughing thing. It's great. I might've watched the scene a few times before I had to share it with my fiance, because I was giggling my head off.

I love putting lighthearted characters with serious ones. They bring a lot of happiness into the broody McBroodster's lives. That's why I always end up romancing Fenris with my snarky Hawke. That and Gideon Emery laughing = vocal chocolate.

I actually have a hard time playing anything other than a snarky character. There's just so much awful stuff going on, someone needs to lighten the mood. Speaking of which.. There's a lot of serious romance characters this time around. Blackwall, Cullen, Solas.. It's like they're aware that we have a type.
