Actually there's a game called Nicole by winterwolves and Spoilers ahoy

Spoiler

Okay, that sounds a little like this one particular game I played...let me preface this story by saying that in my defense, I read the description and it said there was a mystery and devious traps, etc., so I was thinking it was going to be a little more like a visual novel a la Zero Escape or Danganronpa (where you actually have real puzzles and investigating to do).

I start playing it, and...it was really a lot more dating sim, without much actual puzzle-solving, as it turned out. I finished it, but out of all the "romance" options, the guy who's supposed to be The One (as in Mr. Ideal True Romance Ending Guy) is actually the semi-crazy dude who takes everyone prisoner.

And if you say the wrong thing while you try to get to the "true" ending, he can actually kill you. My reaction was, whaaaat?!?!?!?! Noooooo...I'm really not that interested in this tormented (if hot) semi-deranged guy who kills me if I say the wrong thing while I try to talk him down. Sometimes, I think the romances in Japanese games are weird (I mean, hey, I don't mind the whole tsundere thing, but....psycho = the player's true love in this case? LOL!).

Okay, I got his personal quest and did it, but I think I cut off the romance somehow. There are no heart icons and Josephine is the one who came out after the ball. The only place I think that could have happened was right after Haven, I didn't choose the "I'm not losing you" thing. I assumed there would be an opportunity to continue the romance later. Don't tell me I screwed it up and have to go back. I can't dance with Orlesians one more bleeding time.

Did you ever get the quest to go to Storm Coast and look for the badge?

To really initiate the romance I think you definitely have to have the badge.

Evidently, my game bugged out. According to my sister, you get one kiss in your bedroom after you find the badge (which presumably ends in sex), and then you still get the romance scene in the barn... but I never got the romance scene in the barn! Maybe it's because she did Adamant completely before ever beginning Wicked Hearts?

When you walk the walls at Skyhold, when you first get to Haven, he pulls away. Later he asks you to go on a quest with him to Storm Coast. After that quest is finished, then there's another scene with him where you lock in the romance.

Yeah, I got that one, Explanations, and did it before starting Here Lies the Abyss. But I'm wondering if it's because I started Abyss, then delayed going to Adamant until after doing Wicked Hearts.

She got the one on the battlments at Skyhold, the kiss after the quest on teh Storm Coast, *and* the stable scene. I got the battlements, the kiss after the quest on the Storm Coast... and then zilch. Nothing until the kiss after Revelation.

Does Vivienne suspect who Blackwall is?
I take her along sometimes to switch up the banter, and thus far, she never lets up on him it seems, and as he was on the other side, and she seems to know a lot ab Orlesian court-life and murderous intrigues, I do wonder.

/A

Huh, strange. If you start wicked hearts after abyss and after the bedroom kiss, even if you haven't finished Adamant, you should dance with him. Must be a bug. :(

I re did some bits so I could get some screenies yeah you have to get the talk about going to the storm coast.  I didn't think you could get the bedroom scene without the Storm coast quest, because he refers to it?

So when you got the quest Revelation, how did Blackwall leave? Did you have a conversation with him somewhere?

Did you get the scene where Blackwall takes you for a drink? If you choose one of the options (something like "Let's celebrate with our friends") then you don't get the stable scene.

I should have done that scene last night for science (the one for celebrating with friends), but *cursor hovers*

Yes, I got the scene in Halamshiral, dancing on the balcony, and I got the thing where he asked to go for a drink. I think the cutscene terminated early. I got a ping to meet him in the tavern, not the stables, and when I met him there, there was a talk... and a fade to black, and then she woke up in her room, not in the stable. I had to go to the stable. That's why I think my game was bugged. I don't think it ever got to the part where you got a choice where to go to celebrate. I didn't get the Beloved and Precious achievement until after the kiss in the courtroom!

Ooh yeah otome games.

WAIT. ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT SWEET FUSE?

Spoiler

But yeah some romances in otome games are like...odd. I remember I said the wrong thing by accident (i moved my mouse wrong) and I got the "ooh so that's how it is?" psycho yandere ending where apparently I got chained into a basement for years with my PC being his love slave until eventually she manages to get a weapon and stab him and turns out his crazy ass knew had the weapon but he let her kill him because ~remorse~ and she cries as he dies. My mind was full of wut.

I've never really played those games - are they more like interactive visual novels?  Or are they actual games?

I don't know what game you're talking about, but I did love Danganronpa a loooot, haha.

A similar "the one who seems like a traditional romance but ends up dark and ack" is the visual novel/puzzler Magical Diary: Horse Hall. Love that game!

Oooh I loved Magical Diary and who you're talking about. Plus the walking in darkness ending gets me. My girl was a bit doe eyed and naive and it blew up in her face.

That does sound bugged! When you go for a drink, you should have the option of 'celebrate with friends' or 'go somewhere private' (or something to that effect, can't remember the exact lines). Then you either

I went for Donald my first PT of Magical Diary, he's such a cutie. :3 but when I heard how that other one ended, I laughed a lot. Poor people who thought it was going to be a fun, intense, romance.

Loved Magical Diary, too! I also loved Long Live the Queen. I thought I wasn't going to like it, but I was sooo wrong. I never thought I'd love to die so much.

Sometimes I like the little dating sim/visual novel games for my kindle fire.  They're kind of silly, but they are good for light-hearted entertainment. I haven't played too many, since for games I'm usually either with an RPG like Dragon Age/Mass Effect, or I'm obsessed with an MMO like GW2 or SWTOR.

After you walk on the battlements when you first reach skyhold, I think you have to choose the heart option. That leads to a quest with him, which in turn leads to another cutscene where you lock in the romance, which leads to more heart options. Did you get any other heart options after the walk on the battlements, when you first got to skyhold?

Aaaaagh ANDRASTE'S ******. This game is cursed.

No, I haven't got any other heart options, and he sounds like he hates her. I mean, she's got high approval but his tone is always kind of surly.
