Okay, I know this isn't Blackwall related....since I got this with my Cullenmancer Mage....*bartender wouldn't say anything other than one or two word responses to my elfQuizzy...which is probably good since if had had said that to my elf I would have been raging for a *stab him* option*

I laughed and had to screenshot it.

I like the groomed look, but I'm equally enthusiastic about the wild hair - so hard to choose. I would at least make him brush his hair if he keeps the long hair, hehe.

There's this dialogue with Blackwall that bugged me and seemed out of character. After his trial, you speak with him and he says something about how he stopped a tavern girl from being harassed. When you respond with something like "a noble act," he says something like he just did it because the guys were preventing her from serving wine. I couldn't tell if he was joking or not, but he sounded like he genuinely didn't really care about her well being. Thoughts?

He's telling the Inquisitor that when he's in prison. Regardless of what his motivations were at the time (and I wouldn't have blamed him if all he wanted to do was get blind drunk and try to forget what he had just done), he does *not* want the Inquisitor to think he was being heroic. He is actively trying to convince him or her that he was and still is a monster. Of course, he's going to say that he was being a brute.

Er... yeah, what Rinji said.

Here you go....a non-glossy hair, fully textured Blackwall screenshot in all his beardy glory.

I tried drawing him, and failed. need more practice at ruggedy looking men.

After doing his big personal quest last night, I finally got why Sheryl used the Johnny Cash song (God's Gonna Cut You Down) she did as one of Blackwall's themes.   That was playing in my head as I was in Val R.

Well played, Ms. Chee.  And well written too!

Seriously?! Did Sheryl said that? Well, then she's a real genius, because Johnny Cash's songs were on my mind all the time when I romanced Blackwall. It's some kind of writer's magic :)

I love the bartender, he has some gold in his commentary.

I got a great scene with IB today, and with Dorian (the friendship comment) and Sera's pranks - they were all fun (I melted a bit at Dorian's)

In regard to songs - yeah that's a great song to pair Blackwall with.

I have done some life drawing in the past, and I'm tempted to try Ser Blackwall, because godddarnittt Bioware refused to give me him shirtless!!!  Good thing I have an overactive imagination.

Yeah, I studied art for a while, too. While I can do accurate and realistic still lifes/life drawings if I actually have a model right in front of me or photographic references...working from the imagination tends to go poorly for me. I'll probably stick to the writing end of things - hehe.

Kind of missed a lot of Blackwall stuff on my first playthrough so I decided to romance him my second pt...started off with me thinking it might be the typical angsty tragic past 'I'm not worthy of you' affair...but that kinda got turned on its head when the revelation actually hit.

Props, BW, for making a character who isn't just spouting sob stories when they go on about how they aren't worthy of you...he actually legitimately was a terrible person and still feels like he is, and thinks you need better than that. Pretty damned unique arc. Hit me right in the feels when you find out he was going to tell you, but that the Inquisitor basically made him want to believe the lie even more. Ungh.

Alright, I've gotta post a Blackwall song, because I'm writing and it's perfect and plot bunnies are running around like mad.

Yeah.  Way back in the summer, right after Blackwall's big reveal, I had that song playing in my head.  I immediately put that song in this thread.

Imagine my utter shock and delight when Sheryl liked my post.  Then she actually posted and said that particular song was on her mix-list while she was writing the character.

In my mind, after that, I gave Warden Blackwall a first name: John.

Warden John Blackwall.  Rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

Please don't take the bait, Wall Climbers.  He's my next romance for when I do my second playthrough.  I'm a Bull Rider this time 'round.

My current writing playlist, and this came up...

'no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose'

(Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, 'Don't give up')

:crying:

So I've head canoned this as Ciara and Blackwall's song.

This came to mind after he was in jail and I went to go visit him.  The song is really melancholy and blusey, and it's also the theme for my (ex-Carta) Inquisitor's past:

"There's no finger to point to when you're to blame."

I've already played through the game on my male Inquisitor. Blackwall was always in my party on my male playthrough because of how much I love his character.

Decided to make my first female character recently to romance Cullen, but as soon as I recruited Blackwall on my female character I knew what I had to do. Sorry Cullen, But I guess my female character just fell in love with Blackwall at their first meeting! Kinda like my male Inquisitor did on my first playthrough, but that was a no-go! :P

Okay, so I've finished Cullens romance, and it is pretty darned awesome too.  But I kept missing Blackwall.  I've made 2 more girls.  One for each so I can try them both again...for science!

But I've deleted my Blackwall girl like 6 times.  I just can't get happy with a look for her :(  I'm so tired of playing through the beginning! lol.  I really wish we had a mirror like in DA2.  *pout*

A Mirror option would be great.

There are things I would have tweaked with my Elf quizzy (while I thought she was kinds alien looking at times, her unique-ish look really grew on me and now I really like the way she looks, well, except for the garish blush (i just try to ignore looking at her cheekbones))

And my current Mage Quizzy looks like a human version of Scout Harding (unintentional). To up the similarity I would totally add freckles to her if I could.

What type of writing do you guys do?

(I can't write unless given a prompt or a flash of brilliance, which comes once a year. Like drawing I dabble poorly in writing)

@jaulen: I haven't written much fan-fic - it's mostly original work in short and long-form fiction (actually took second place in a Halloween short story fiction contest last year that our local paper holds annually - heh). I jump genres a bit...would say that I'm mainly sci-fi oriented, with some horror and fantasy on the side.

The Blackwall story I'm working on seems to be going semi-effortlessly right now. Chapter 1 is still not done, but I've surpassed my earlier word count and am at 2700 words and climbing. Considering how I obsess over individual sentences and do incessant rewrites, it generally takes me a lot longer to make that much progress. Have to run it past someone when I'm done (if/when that happens) and get an opinion. I'm hypercritical of my own work, so if left to my own devices, I might never get around to releasing it - lol.

I've written some Blackwall snippets. Idk if I'll ever get around to editing them for a "proper" ao3 release, but I'll probably post them here and on Tumblr. So much delicious angst to play around with, and I'm a carver myself, so I enjoy being able to write about him working with wood. :)

Got the banter today with him and Cass talking about sharpening knives and it made me happy for that reason, hehe.

Links, please? :) I can even dig up some of my own fics for trade.

Not nearly enough Blackwall fanfics out there. That, or I'm reading too fast.

I had written two fanfics for DAO and nothing for DA2. I do science writing for work....so it's all very dry/undescriptive/boring.......other than those two fanfics, last time I wrote anything 'creative' was for an anthropology class in college back in the early 1990's.

After the ME3 ending mess. It got me to thinking, "even with my horrid story telling abilities I could write something better!"

So i started writing.

Have a huge fantasy world planned out, all the characters laid out, a general plot outline, and a couple of chapters written (totally out of order).

But I just haven't had the 'drive' to sit down and write it, it was like the creating of the world and characters totally took the story out of me (I even drew a world map, defined countries and their economies, have three major religions, defiend the different species/how they interact with each other/generl apperance/their religion/and magic (or lack of) abilities, and created a numbering system and alphabet)

Did the same thing for a fantasy chick-lit style story with same outcome.

But mainly I've just been doing flash fiction contests, trying to hone my writing. Have to write really tight when having a word limit. I'm finding editing takes more time than the initial writing. It's only on a web forum, but I got seond place in last months entry. (went and read some of my initial entries and *phew* my writing has changed considerably over the last year or two)
