Um, how on earth does one get all that dialogue involving Josephine and the companions as posted in the clip above? Do you have to be in a romance with Josephine or something? I was pretty sure that I'd done most everything there was to do in the game and this is the first time I'm hearing many of those lines.

Haha, I normally don't really go for bearded guys, but I too learned to love Blackwall's beard.
None of my irl guys have ever worn full beards, but I've had a thing for them ever since Riker in Star Trek:TNG grew his. Some of my favorite men are scruffy, if not bearded. Like Aragorn & Eomer from lotr. And my two current tv crushes from Orphan Black (Cal by Michiel Huisman) and OUAT (Hook by Colin O'Donoghue).

Only found this post-Revelations. I didn't realise it was possible to find it beforehand!
I found it afterwards too, and then was kicking myself for not going to the Exalted Plains sooner. It would've been another interesting piece of the puzzle to have, pre-Revelations. Of course, getting it after, I could understand the meaning much better than I would've beforehand!

I'm about to give up. I want to do another Blackwall romance. But I have deleted SO many inquisitors. It seems I love my first Inquisitor so much that none can compare and I always find something to dislike about how they look.
Back to the drawing board. *sigh*

Wow. Now I look at those screens, I totally remember finding that piece of paper way, WAY before Revelations as well. Of course, the name Thom Rainier didn't stick in my mind because I must have just filed the contents of the note away with the hundred others I'd picked up beforehand. I'm sure Blackwall was in my party at the time (because duh, I haven't let him leave it since the Hinterlands) but I don't remember if he made any comment to the Inquisitor about the note. Can imagine him being all "Uh, probably nothing important. Let's talk about jousting instead. Hey, is that a rift over there!?"

I still wonder if that journal entry by Maliphant that I found in the Emerald Graves might be a reference to Blackwall under another name. Typed it up in here before under a spoiler tag somewhere. Maybe I'll add it in again later (not on my computer atm, so it's a no-go right now). Probably not, although Maliphant noted "Gordian's" Marcher accent (seemed to find it odd), and what "Gordian" said/how he behaved seemed a bit Blackwall-like. That and Blackwall mentioning that it had been ten (?) years since he'd last been to the Emerald Graves while we wandered around made me go "hmmm" for a bit when I found it.

I'm in the same boat. I've deleted sooo many today. I know if I just stick with it, I'll probably be okay with a new character. There were things I wanted to tweak with my first character, and was dying for a mirror like we had in DA2. Then I got so used to her that things didn't bother me, until finally it turned into adoration, and now I'm just like ahhhh she's so perfect and i looove her, and her voice is perfectly hers!
At this point, I'm seriously thinking it may be time for a male PC, because then I wouldn't have the same attachment, and it would be a completely different voice.

I haven't gotten all of them, but if you hang out for a few moments when Josie is at her desk and her assistant is waiting, you'll hear them talking. Then, if you see a messenger close to one of the other characters and you approach and wait for a moment, you'll hear them talking too. They didn't match up perfectly in my game (as in, I didn't hear one thing with Josie, go to the other character and hear the response), but I did hear different snippets.
I've only caught the messenger at Leliana, Bull & Dorian. I'm not sure if it's because I romanced Blackwall, but I never saw a messenger down at the barn (well, except for the quest one, but that's different). You'd think with my constantly running there to talk and kiss on him, that I would've seen someone if they were going to show up.
I did get a funny line from the bartender, about people being spooked after hearing bumps and strange noises in the hayloft (paraphrased). So maybe that scared off any potential messengers!

If it wasn't for the fact that nothing happens between them, this would have been yet another Bioware game where the LI of my choice is ruined because of them pairing people off.
I'm seeing some interesting arguments between my friends as to whether Blackwall would be happier with Josephine, or just how interested he is in her while he's with the Inquisitor. I try to watch those arguments quietly from the sidelines.

Thanks very much for the response, Sabreenei. That clip threw me for a loop there because it almost made it sound like you needed to have Josephine in your active party to hear that kind of banter, and of course we all know that's impossible. It's very strange because I've frequently seen various messengers by Josephine's desk on my way to the war table, and if you close in to where they are, you'll hear some dialogue between Josephine and the messenger. However, I've never once encountered anything of the sort between a messenger and a companion.
Maybe next time if I hear an exchange between Josephine and a messenger that references a companion (I seem to recall hearing one about Solas), I'll immediately rush to where the companion is to see if the messenger will eventually make his or her way to the companion to have an exchange with them. ![]()

Not much of an argument, considering he is never with her thus his happiness level being more or less is moot.

I just saw a bit of Blackwall's banter with Sera where he talks about how he hates aristocracy and now i'm tempted to romance him with a super-spoiled porcelain-doll-ish Trevelyan lady for lulz and irony. Does he actually ever comment on the Inquisitor's origin though? Apart from "I thought you'd be human" with non-numans?

I think she appeals to him because she is so good. Just like he idealizes the Wardens, I think he idealizes Josie too. And when she's thinking of him, she's also idealizing him as this great, honorable "Warden". Neither one sees the other clearly, which is what courtly love really is about. The romanticized love. Real love is messy and hard, and people do things you hate and are both better and worse than you think them, all in one big confusing jumble.
Since the inquisitor has whatever type of personality you give to them, the pairing of the two can potentially be better or worse than what would've happened (or not happened) with Josephine. In my game, the inquisitor was not as innocent or good as Josie. She'd made some bad past mistakes, had been involved with men before and already was coming from a place of knowing people aren't perfect. She sometimes said things that surprised or shocked Blackwall a little, that made him laugh and pushed him out of his comfort zone, and didn't let him put her on a pedestal. I think that was good for him. He, in turn, was there when she was doubting herself, always supporting her with the hard decisions she had to make. I loved the line in Haven, about what he would do if the world turned on her, and he said it would be them against the world (or something to that effect, I don't have the proper quote with me).
So in my opinion, Blackwall and Josie made a good distraction for one another (when neither is romanced by the PC). Someone to idealize and take their mind off the scary business at hand. Sometimes a crush can be a wonderful thing, and never needs to be anything more. But ultimately (in my Blackwall romanced game, anyway), he's most happy with my Inquisitor, because she loves him for who he is, bad and good and frustrating and melt-worthy.

Yeah, she's too good for him I'm afraid. After doing more of her quest I'm in no doubt they are mismatched. Interesting though I do think a younger Rainier who'd remained true to Celene and never did what he did, wouldn't necessarily be a bad fit but I reckon the level of arrogance he might have had at that stage of his life might be off putting for a sensible girl such as Josie. He's likely a lot more humble as an older man (to a certain degree anyway.)
In any regards, my not so level headed inquisitor well, let's just say she has...

Okay, onto another thought, I get WAY too much enjoyment from jumping off of high places in Skyhold and trying to land on people, and using the horse as a shortcut to get back down to ground level when in maps.....every single time I do that I giggle like a maniac....my husband has taken to asking "Jumping again?"
Also just triggered the romance scene with Cullen.
Holy crudnuggets!!!! Blackwall's non-romanced bar scene/story......Ahhh!!!!! Dude! Did not know you could make me do more different kinds of feels!
Ahhh!! And his response to the Quizzy saying "there were others that did nothing"

The chest shot and the fact he wears his gloves ALL THE TIME. Dammit, I wanna see your big burly man hands too. I guess I can't be too sullen about it given the choice for those rolling femQuisitors is pretty good, and the more I learn the more I am tempted to do Cullen's romance because I hear nothing but good things about it.

No no.....
I did a lot of spoilers with him in DAO and DA2 and the ME series.....
I *swore* to myself that I would not spoil major things companion or plot related for him this time.....(it's SO hard...I start talking and then have to say...nevermind.....like I wanted to talk through a couple of story ides for the flash fiction prompt with him......but I couldn't since he hadn't finished any Blackwall plots)
I can't WAIT for him to get to Blackwall's quest and see what he thinks/his response.
(in fact, I did all the chores today so that he had uninterrupted gaming time....he needs to catch up to me
but then, if I played on console, my TV time would be gaming time, not football time *go vikings!*)

After you know what his deal is, the approval one gets when killing darkspawn makes him seem like he's trying too hard. Someone else, on here or TVTropes, pointed out he wants a good look at warden artifacts so he can examine them before you do.
They took the wisest, old soldier archetype and turned into a gibbering moron.
Stuff like that's why I like this game.
I kinda viewed it as him constantly being dumped out of the cozy little reality he'd built for himself. Go along, no one really questions you, life does its thing and you think you've got everyone fooled who needs to be. Then someone starts asking, and now you have to actually answer questions that no one thought hard enough about to throw at you before.
It's a little terrifying and then you start flubbing because you're floundering in the situation.
The easiest way to probably explain my thought there is this, which I really can't believe I'm actually telling anyone: in the past at my job, I had a horrible tendency to just kind of fill in the blanks so that I would sound as confident as possible even if I was on shaky ground. I am admittedly less educated than my peers, and sometimes I would feel like I was the village idiot. And people just didn't notice that I… uh… had a talent for covering my butt. :: blush :: Or if they did, they didn't let on. I would tell myself, "I am such a hack. Someday, all of these people are going to see I'm a hack, and then what will they think of me?" I didn't lie, but I did know how to put a spin on things so that it sounded better than it was, or that I sounded better than I was.
Then I get a new manager who looks at me one day and says, "You know, it's okay to say you don't know." Saw right through me. Could tell any time I was just flinging stuff off the cuff. What, you mean this shield doesn't protect me from flanking attacks…? I thought no one got through this stupid thing!
I came to realize that I had gotten so caught up in trying to sound confident, to try to put on that "face" to everyone, that I completely missed that I had actually achieved a high degree of competence and had, in fact, become capable of what I thought I was just faking. I didn't need the mask, but at first I didn't know how to let it go. It'd just been there so long.
So, I finally shaved off that beard I had been growing… no, no, kidding, kidding, I never had a beard.
I certainly ain't hiding Blackwall's kind of darkspawn in my closet, but I've been through having to feel like you have to painfully put on a face, when on the inside you feel that everyone who respects you actually respects the someone else you're presenting to them. It's a hard place to be, and it takes a lot of learning how to believe in what one can do, rather than obsessing over and hiding flaws.
… I am a little surprised I just said any of that. Not the beard part, the other part. It's more than anyone needed to know, but really, it's stuff like this which is why I love a game with characters that I can identify with. Why every time I catch Blackwall trying to B.S. me I think, don't B.S. a pro, I see what you're doing there.
But DAT BEARD YOU GUYS SERIOUSLY. ![]()
