Yeah, choosing that line (for science) made me feel awful. Talk about kicking a man when he's down. Still, it does lead to a more passionate speech in the judgment scene, so there's that. I'll probably never pick it again though.

Also, found another song that gives me feels. It actually appears in another game I've been playing but it seems appropriate to Blackwall, too. Just...replace "Jesus" with "Maker" or something.

It doesn't automatically end things, just makes him get all angsty when you judge him, and he refuses to believe you didn't feel any love for him. Of course, you can still choose to end the relationship after that, but I wouldn't have the heart to do it after his impassioned speech, ha. (I actually did try it once--again, for science--and his reaction broke my heart all over again.)

Sad this play through......Blackwall and my Mage Quizzy just don't see eye to eye. 

I think him and Soals are the only two that hate her right now.

 

And dang, it just seems like even though Cullen was the *add on* romance, that Blackwall was the add on. There are just some extra 'one liners' when talking to Cullen, and the Blackwall romanced and non romanced convors are essentially the same. Will have to play through a Blackwall romance again for comparative science.

 

And the repair game and clearing my completed quests look like it may have taken care of the banter issue. In about 1.5 hrs of play I have had more banters (4) than I had all day yesterday.

 

 

(example of the 'illusion of choice'...talking with Solas after the Winter Palace, picking ANY of the four options, he had a one to three word initial response to your question/statement and then delivers the exact same line. kind of sad to see that.)

People keep saying Cullen has more content, is that really true or does it just seem that way? I know they have to economize, so I don't mind some shared dialogue. If they didn't cut corners here and there, we wouldn't have had the variety and the niche options that we do have. The romances are just so much better than DA2's. Enough said about that, though.

 

Anyway it's hard for me not to see Blackwall as the main male LI now. You have the drama but a shot at a happy ending, and he's open to all females, and that romance tarot card... *fans self*. It seems to me that a lot of his character arc is tied to him finding someone to accept him for who he is. Though I think with Solas, too, that you never see the real character unless you're in a romance with him.

Re: Cullen, some of it might be that he has quite a few years and games of issues that we've seen, so there was a lot to run with there. But, I haven't done the romance, just talked with him.

Talking to Cullen makes my Inquisitor Cadash feel like the worst person ever for all her lyrium smuggling.

Anyways, I liked Blackwall especially his relationship with Sera. I love how they seem like a father-daughter/best buds tandem. He also knows how to deal with the other characters. But then I did his personal quest... after trying to save him, he has the gall to call me corrupt  that annoyed me as hell.  I did it cause I know it will make Sera sad and Solas will lose his game buddy if I did not save him and I have to do it without compromising the inquisition. But nonetheless, I love how he was written and complexity of it. I havent tried romancing him yet but that storyline will be a hell of a drama.

I've done this about four times... Just to get screenies.

I'm really noticing how they get little expressions on the inquisitor and companions face just right that I get a tad melty about it. You know, the lift at the corner of the mouth, the droop in the eyebrow when theyre displeased, a wide eyed look when they're surprised. The facial animations are nuanced and absolutely perfect.

So not all the lines fit exactly, and I've loved this song before I ever played DA:I (and it meant something different when I listened before), but now I hear the song sung from Blackwall's perspective, towards his love, the Inquisitor. I hear it as before she knows the truth, when he only feels like a good man when he is with her, especially when he is with her.

 

This is the live SNL version, the radio release is a little more powerful (since it has a full orchestra backup), but then you don't get to see the tall scruffy Irishman sing it. I was torn... but had to go with the visual.

Almost every scene in his romance made me weak in my knees to be honest. Most of all his judgement scene though. The way he looks at Inquisitor is just so intense...
