Well, Clara was always able to see through Santa and see who he really was despite trying to hide it. Cole was able to do the same with Rainier.

Tumblr seems way better than the BSN on Blackwall, which shouldn't surprise me but considering the drama I've seen surrounding Solas on there lately, who even knows at this point.

I'm pretty much at "stick to trusted BSN threads and thoughtfully curated blacklist on tumblr" status right now. I love good discussions and sometimes enjoy the DRAMAZ but lately I feel too old and tired to argue with these kids about my pixel men and ladies lmao.

..I'm not that old I'm just grouchy like my pixel dirtbag bb.

Discussions are good; I actually like a disagreeing viewpoint that is stated well, makes me think. There's some great thoughtful points around here, on lots of topics from lots of sides. I like that there are different viewpoints even in this thread (...and that there are others that can get behind the banner of WOULD IT KILL YOU TO LEAVE A BLANKET? Or is that a poor choice of words?).

I am obviously not doing tumblr right, because I've seen no hate for Blackwall on tumblr so far, only some reblog hate so they can tell people to GTFO of the tag for Dorian and Solas. Oh and whilst not following the ship, I have seen some real hate for IB/Dorian ship.

However, I have come across some awesome smut in words and pictures for pretty much all parts of the fandom >.>

My favorite characters always seem to have a lot of haters and/or controversy surrounding them. But then, it's the internet. For just about every pro group there's an anti group. Even Alistair has a fair number of haters, which always surprised me! I pretty much stay in here, and sometimes pop into other threads I know (and trust).

 

I haven't been on Tumblr much since the game came out. I was trying not to spoil myself at first, but since that's finished I guess I can go back on and peruse the Blackwall art. I am so incredibly happy that Aimo is a Blackwall lover!

It just... doesn't feel right to me. Especially since I have been informed that he *actually* sleeps with the Inquisitor *before* admitting his lie?

I'm pretty fed up with people assuming things without doing the actual romance in the game. I made the same assumption about him leaving, and was worried about it, but in context of why, in the greater scheme of his story and character arc it didn't bother me. If it bothers you even if there might be context to it don't do it.

Maybe someone else can convince you to do the romance, but today, I lack the patience and am feeling personally insulted the more I think about that other f*cking thread. (not for Blackwall but because of some things said in it that are at odds with my personal experience and feelings)

Not necessarily. You don't have to get the sex scene, it's easy to avoid. Just pick the let's hang with our friends option when you're drinking with him. 

 

And why do it if you don't want to? I loved his romance path, but it's not for everyone. It's a crazy drama ride, if you're not comfortable with that then you might want to pick Cullen instead. If you do decided to go with Blackwall, use him, Sera and Cole together. Their banter is gold. I liked both Blackwall and Sera more after each of their banter and Cole has some really interesting insight into Blackwall's mind.

"Old" is an understatement. I've even started defending him on Youtube, which I'll probably end up regretting (I generally avoid Youtube comments like the plague, with good reason). I totally understand people not liking Blackwall -- he isn't for everyone -- but everywhere I look people just seem to be homing in on the negative aspects of his character while ignoring everything else (and conveniently hand-waving all the morally dubious stuff done by characters they actually like).

I'm just glad to have this thread (and a few prolific Tumblr peeps) to remind me I'm not alone in my appreciation for this beardy, loveable, infuriating, brave, cowardly, gallant, vulgar, idealistic, self-loathing lummox!

After finishing Blackwall personal quest (no romance) and almost finishing Solas's romance quest (only the final battle's left) and I gotta say...

I really wish I romanced him instead of Solas. Not like I hate Solas but, blah, I don't even feel anything towards the elf except a bit of respect and curiosity. Blackwall's story made me sad, proud, uncertain and sympathetic

I see a lot of people blaming him for that dog incident and it was pretty grim but how was it his fault? He was a kid and if adults did nothing how he could do anything? I kind of love the fact that his writer addied this moment, because it feels realistic. Close to real life

How often such cases happen in real life? How often people are too afraid to do anything to stop bad **** from happening? 

A breath of fresh air in this world of sappy, happy, cheesy romances and stories

Started my 3rd playthrough. Was going to roll a female for Blackwall again. But decided that I needed to do a Qunari, and went with a guy. Sword and board (first time in a DA game for me to play that class) Him and Cass are going to be so cute together. 

 

 

And Friday is deadline for the Blackwall Flash Fiction. Get 'em written and posted!

And tis a damn shame because these characters are one of the best. They're difficult and controversial and that's what makes them so awesome. Lots of layers, lots of layers, not just sweet or spicy but also bitter and sour. Mmm

I really love Sera too. She's like a car wreck- horrifying, but I can't look away. I feel like taking her under my wing. Her and Blackwall together are just great. Haven't really gotten to know Viv yet. 

 

I think BW did a good job in providing a good variety in romances this time. Blackwall's romance is dark, and not for everyone, but the Cullen romance is nice too and much lighter in tone.

 

I have always liked more problematic characters. Video games, movies and books are a great place to explore themes that are uncomfortable/taboo in real life. Plus, I was raised on telenovelas, so I don't mind that type of drama in storytelling. One of my favorite Mexican soap operas was about a man who seduced a woman while pretending to be her husband. That would be super gross in real life, but I was totally rooting for them to get together at the end. *kanyeshrug*

If you think what he did was unforgivable and you can't deal with the lie, I disagree, but that's fine. I definitely wouldn't recommend romancing him to you then. Or Solas.

I do think the romance fleshes out that side of him a lot more, but you do have to keep an open mind and accept going in that he's a very flawed man. His flaws, more than anyone else's, get a bright light shone on them, and it can be uncomfortable looking at it, but he's not worse than anyone else there IMO. It's just all very raw and unavoidable. Which I prefer, tbh, but ymmv.

Not romanced him yet, so I don't know how fleshed out he gets then, but I do love Blackwall, despite there being so little i can seemingly talk to him when in Haven/skyhold...for understandably reasons, he's reserved.

 

His storyline and personal quest is amazingly good though and adds a great amount of depth, making him arguably the most human character of the entire team. 

 

Plus, he's such a goooooooood tank! Man, in my latest playthrough he's gotten me out of so many jams, it's unbelievable. Due to his toughness, he's also my number one choice to take dragon-hunting, sorry, Cassandra.

And yes, I totally picture him as a mace-guy. True, the sword is the hero's sword, but the mace is the common warrior's, the cleric's and many a Paladin's...he fit all of those criteria, no matter what he himself might say about the later ones.

This morning I was (respectfully, enjoyably) arguing about Blackwall on Skype and my husband asked me what I was doing. 

 

me: I MUST DEFEND MY PRECIOUS VIDEOGAME HUSBANDO

husband: is this the one you were making fun of yesterday?

me: yes!! can you believe tanya is talking crap about him?? how dare she??? he's perfect???

husband: the "child murderer piece of trash *******"

me: yes!!! 

husband: ....

 

It just cracks me up how I'll insult Blackwall til the cows come home, and not even in fair ways, but then someone else does and it's not out of affection....I'll turn on a dime and HUSBANDO DEFENSE SQUAD!!!! Dirtball. My dirtball. My poor misunderstood dirtball.
