I just dumped Blackwall. I FELT AWFUL.

 

I know how you feel. I exiled him to the Anderfells yesterday.

 

The Inquisitor was just trying to do the right thing! He thought that everyone vulnerable to the Calling would be better off as far as possible from Corypheus, and that the Wardens needed Blackwall's strength more than the Inquisition did. Only of course he has no idea how amazingly awkward this situation actually is.

 

I wonder what happens? Attempts to play along and keep up the pretence? Embarrassed confession? Sneaks off in the middle of the night? Attempt to sneak off in the middle of the night followed by embarrassed confession?

That or my Inquisitor will explain that she simply boinked the taint right out of him.

Bioware are great big teases. The whole thing with the HoF going to look for cure - I can totally see the writers and developers sitting there twirling their villainous moustaches, puffing on cigarettes through cigarette holders and stroking white furry cats, whilst they furiously plan the next DLC, book, or some other plot line.

How do you guys get Blackwall to check on you after battle? I know it's been asked before but I just couldn't get it to trigger. Do you have to actually die or just losing some HP will do? I did an experiment for science - set my difficulty on Hard and disabled taunts and defenses from Blackwall's tactics (that's how he got roflstomped on the screenshots I posted a while back) specifically so that the enemies would target me and I would, you know, actually get hurt! Instead, Blackwall got wasted and was still barely touched. My quizzy should take lessons from my Warden archer, now she was a real aggro magnet. I got hurt pretty bad a couple of times, but still nothing from him

I got it after being downed a couple of times in one of the rift battles - in that cave inland on the Storm Coast.  I was playing on normal but the rift was 3 above my current one at the time.  I was a melee 2 handed warrior so I was looking for pain up close and personal!

 

And I just recruited Blackwall on my no 2 playthrough.  Of course I had to swap out someone else so he could come along.  But the whole warden thing is a bit painful to listen to knowing the truth.

I just recruited him again on this playthrough too. Only I was a little bit gleeful at all the warden talk. Like, oh yeah? Tell me again about these wardens that you know so well? You sounded a little concerned there, when I tainted their name. Tainted, get it? No? So, why are you out without other wardens again? Really, that's how they do things, hmmm? Okay, Mr. Beardy. I believe you. One warden can save the world? Well, I do know my Ferelden history... so I can partially agree, though she did have help. I made it my business to know all about her, because she's a mage like me. So if you want to talk facts... what? Oh, you'd rather gather some Warden memorabilia than talk?  Bwahahahhaaha. That's okay, because you're strangely charming... no wait! No, this girl is for Cullen, go warden-talk someplace else! Well, okay, just this once. Or twice, or hell, guess I'll be painfully breaking up with you later so I can do the Cullen thing, because now the flirting has gone on too much. Dammit.

 

He needs to stop being so beardy on the first meeting, because it makes it impossible not to go all melty.

To me I feel like he said it a LOT on the Storm Coast.  Whether it's a bug or if it's intentional (like he's super nervous to be there lol) I don't know.  But my character would be just running along and he'd just say "Are you alright love?"

I went to the Storm Coast a lot earlier on so that I would actually be low enough to get hurt instead of steamrolling the darkspawn like I did on my first playthrough. I did hear him ask "Are you alright, love?" one time while we were there on my current playthrough after I took a fair bit of damage (I purposely let those darkspawn beat on me). I'm mostly satisfied with the pained scream/howl of agony thing he sometimes does when I get dropped - but fortunately or unforutnately, it doesn't really happen too often now that I've gone knight-enchanter - lol.

I echo what the others have said.  I've only ever heard him say it to me at Storm Coast.

I might tend to run around low on hp.  He was asking if Inq was OK at random intervals every time I went to the storm coast.  I did get her KOed a couple times there early in the game there, too.

@veeia: I remember that line being from one of the Haven conversations but don't remember which option triggered it. I would load up and check which one it is, but I'm currently in the middle of using Blackwall's shield to bash a bunch of stupid authors over the head (dealing with some real winners today...grrrrrrrrr).

It's near the beginning, when you're first talking to him about joining up with the inquisition. He references the inquisition in terms of "we" or "our" (can't remember which at the moment) and the middle dialog option gives you the chance to say something teasing like, "Really? It's we already?" And he smiles! Ahhhhhh. I love when you see that little bit of smiley laugh. Does it to me every time.

I totally thought on my third playthrough i was going to be rolling a female to pair up with Blackwall again.

 

I picked a Quanri, sword and board. Used the Jon Curry voice for him. (*swoon* fits my Qunari dude perfectly) Is it bad that I have a crush on my Avatar? Gotta be the voice and the big-guy build.

 

I actually feel more attached to this dudenari than I do to my self-insert female elf.

I also think he would make a cute pairing for EVERYBODY in the game. Although so far, early flirting with Cass is fun (they are going to be so CUTE! together.....which is sad since I'm angling for her as Divine). Was alsio fun taking the flirt option with Cullen and having him *hitch* a moment before he continued talking (I think it was a graphical glitch and not really in game).  Also flirting with Sera and the confused expression on her face. And flirting with Dorian, his responses are funny. No flirt option with Blackwall. Also fun telling Iron Bull to "Get away from me you spy!" and "How dare you say that about my parents!" Did not recruit Viviene, he was all like, "Mages? Bah! I'm going after all the reble mages, why do I just need you and your 'support'?".

Bah!

 

Trying to convince my husband that he needs to pair his female Qunari up with Blackwall. He's not game for it.

 

Nah. Next playthrough (maybe I have to run 2 at once) is for a female dwarf. I'm goinfg to channel the great Amio and pair a female dwarf with Blackwall.

 

 

EDIT: And that picture upthread by Sabreenei made me really wish that Blackwall was romanceable by my dudenari. made me think, female Qunari and Blackwall? How melty for him to be protecting someone so much bigger than him.

Bonus pictures -- I was playing with DAI cinematic tools to get my Blackwall fix, in hopes of strengthening my resolve (did nothing to help!) and got a few fun pictures. I'm still learning how to position it, but it's fun playing!

It's a program you run at the same time as the game, which lets you take off the UI, and free up the camera to move all around. I just downloaded it last night, so I'm not really an authority at all, lol. I don't know that I'd play the game with it running, since coming out of the cut scene one time it froze everything, but it's great to just play with. I'll probably use it when I want to go in and get some great screenshots. You can do other things with it (that I haven't done), like adjusting color, etc., too.

I got some crazy shots too, because they light the characters and move them differently from what you see when it's all done. So it goes light then dark on each of them, and in one part the other character actually disappeared when it was a closeup of the others face. It was pretty funny!
