Giubba: Me too. Regardless, not nearly enough info to judge him an "***hole" or not. Anyway, just a speculation. It would be odd for the writer's go to the trouble of putting a person in front of you multiple times and not have something in mind for the character later. Of course it doesn't necessarily follow that character ends up a companion.

Yeah mine too was a simple impression.
Stroud anyway is ,blatantly, a character caught in the cancelled expansion for DA2.
It's a safe bet that in DA2 exp. he would be the main tank instead of Aveline.

Were there hints that the companions in the EM expansion would've been different form the main game?Yeah mine too was a simple impression.

Not that i'm aware.
But considering that:
1)He had a name
2)He tip some ultrasecret mission from the GW that we never found out what was
3)He was a sword and shield user
4)Hawke fellowship disband after the gallows fight (except for his LI)
I would bet solid money that he would have filled that role.
But as i said is a bet no 100% guarantee on that.

Well here is a thought....if you take a closer look at his swords they almost remind me of Hawke's key from the legacy DLC. Did Hawke go join the Grey Wardens after Kirkwall? Stroud was cordial to Hawke all the way around and especially so if you make your sibling a Warden (which I do nearly every game).
The browner colored armor reminds me of armor that might be worn by a Ferelden Warden. The other two possibly from Orlais or the Free Marches.
I liked Stroud as a character and I'd be interested in knowing what happened between him and Anders and why Stroud doesn't owe Anders anything now.

God stop you're making me excited for something I know won't happen.

I really don't think it is Hawk or the Warden but a totally new Warden, and my money is on Stroud or a new Warden.
If not our Wardens will make for great fan fiction in this setting for them.

What I find interesting about this character is that, far and away, we've seen the greatest contrast in tone with him between the different pieces of concept art he's been in.
The tone presented in the piece here is very somber and serious and downcast. Where as in the picture in the tavern with Sera making her hand gesture he's laughing in a very boisterous manner at what one assumes is a very lowbrow joke.
I have a feeling I'm going to like this guy.

Agreed. I really like that we've seen two very different images of this guy and they have both led me to think that I'm going to like him. Of course, this is all subject to change once we learn anything concrete about him.
We can fawn over this guy together then.
Me too. Me too. I know it's unlikely, but right now, he's my number one hope for male LI. A burly, hairy older gentleman with a grey streaked beard and a good sense of humor. I'm in!

I am most looking forward to this character. I strongly approve of a mature bearded companion as an LI. It would be a nice change of pace. But just to have him as a companion would be enough. From what little information we have, he'll probably never leave my party if he's available.

Not really a fan of him being Stroud. Sure it would serve as a great having a character you met before, but I prefare a new complete character.

As for the character in general, the type is one we don't see too often, so I'm prepared to like him just for that. In anything else: not enough information to decide yet.

One simple question: how do we know this guy is a Grey Warden? As for the character in general, the type is one we don't see too often, so I'm prepared to like him just for that. In anything else: not enough information to decide yet.
He has a a gryffon necklace in one concept, and in his first appearance in the 2012 PAX customization panel (where they shown Cassandra too), Bioware stated that character was a Warden.

I'm curious as to how he and Iron Bull will get along. We know capital Q qunari hold the Wardens in high respect; I wonder if that's something Iron Bull holds onto from his time with the Qun.

As I stated earlier, Mysterious Bearded Warden is far and away my most anticipated character. Varric and Alistair have always had a neck and neck race for my favorite companion in the series, but I have a feeling MBW will soon join them up there. We know almost nothing about him, but I'm getting an overwhelming aura of noble-ness, honor, and strength. His concept art gives him a very strong presence. I feel like he could take command of the room simply by walking in and clearing his throat.

As long as long as he's voiced by Stephane Cornicard or Keith Szarabajka, and is romanceable I say bring him on ^__^
THIS. So much THIS. Although I wouldn't say no to Szarabajka, I'm a bit more partial to Cornicard. His voice is just... *dreamy sigh*
I'd totally squee my pants if this guy turns out to be Stroud. I seem to recall one of the devs mentioning something about how Stroud was the only Grey Warden guaranteed to be alive in DAI. I'd like to think that was a hint to Blackbeard's identity. I'm probably wrong, but still... a woman can dream. ![]()
Whoever he turns out to be, he's guaranteed a spot on my first Inquisitor's go-to team, right alongside Iron Bull and Cullen. I originally planned on taking Vivienne, Cullen, and Solas, but like my major in college, I changed my mind for the gazillionth time.
