Reasons to romance Blackwall:
-DAT BEARD
-Excuse to take him everywhere (and quite fun banter about the romance from companions, too, plus he is the most badass tank)
-The voice; I absolutely love how much a lot of the lines and scenes are driven home because of it.
-Calls the Inquisitor "my lady" in a delightfully nice way.
-Nice balance of drama and maybe a little heartbreak but with a nice finish. He's in this for the long run if you'll have him.

Probably some other things, too. I just really liked him as a character and have really enjoyed the romance. It felt to me a bit more realistic than a warm fuzzy sunshine and rainbows fest, and I liked that. If you believe in second chances, redemption, and the power of beards, you should go for it.

Personal bias, tho.

(Random only because Sera was also mentioned: last night my husband says he was thinking of making a female elf Inquisitor then romance Solas, and I laughed at him because I told him we both know what would happen... SERA WOULD HAPPEN)

I saw something a while ago of Blackwall wearing a fedora saying his 'm'lady' line, and I've been unable to unsee it ever since.

His beard is much too impressive for it, though. That helps. 

 

I wonder, does he get up every morning and style it into those two tips, to keep them nice and pointy? Pull them both into shape like that? And Dorian says he puts no effort into it. Pwah.

If I'm not mistaken, he only tells that story to a non-romanced Inquisitor. I picked "let's hang out with friends" once when I romanced him (it was an old save though, so it was just for science) and he basically just said something like "Every good thing in my life came from you" or something and stealthed out like a freaking rogue. As swoon-worthy as this line was, I think I'll be going with the sex scene on my playthroughs, because dramaz.

Weirdly enough, I came across that concept art last night while looking up pics. I was actually trying to figure out if his eyes are actually gray or blue and whether or not my color settings on my monitor might be tipping the balance in the direction of gray. Anyway, I thought the earclips/earrings were kind of hot, too. Think you can still see one of them in the romance tarot, so we kind of still have it...kind of (well, I'm pretty sure that's what it is on his ear in the card, unless it's somehow the result of wishful thinking on my end - lol).

That concept art.  He looks exactly like those head shots (nose bump and all!) in game (minus the gray and earring).  His eyes are like a steel blue, btw.  Not that I've stared at them endlessly or anything.

I think you can see something earring-like right under the top of the pic, with a pierced earlobe right under it.

Thanks for the info! I am on my second playthrough with a romanced Cullen and got the dog story. Cullen's romance is very nice as well, but I miss the drama and excitement of my first playthrough. Why do I love the crazies in the party?

Yeah, I was always like "hmm, kind of gray...but with blue in there...but sort of predominantly gray...no...more blue???". Then I spent last night trying to load a couple of scenes to make some sort of definitive determination...which totally didn't work because of the lighting in the scenes I loaded.

Anyway, I just edited it to "faded blue" but now I'm back to waffling over that change because I prefer how "faded gray" sounded writing-wise and in the context of the situation. Augh, why am I obsessing over how to describe his eye color in ONE sentence?!?!?! *facepalm* Well...at least this isn't as bad as that guy and the thread about the chemical composition of Tali's sweat in the ME2/ME3 forums (can't remember exactly when that thread happened, but it must have been circa ME2 or ME3) - lololol.

 

Was blathering about Blackwall to a guy friend last night (who I convinced to buy DA:I - muahahaha) and said I wouldn't forgive him if he exiled Blackwall later on (I was kidding...mostly!). I didn't say anything spoilerish - just that stuff might happen with Blackwall after Here Lies the Abyss and Wicked Eyes. Anyway, my guy friend then brought up the Tali sweat thread, except he got the character name wrong. I pondered it for a minute, and then I said: "Wait, you mean that Tali sweat thread?!" - lol.

Blackwall's eyes have always looked blue to me. That stormy blue-gray color.   

 

But then, I'm a little biased, because most people in my family have blue-gray eyes, and we always call them blue! Mine are blue-green-gray, and people always have different ideas on what the real color is, so it's easier just to say blue. For genetic purposes, they're nearly the same (thought they are learning things about how eye color is determined all the time. so interesting!) Maybe Blackwall would be the same -- depending on his armor color and mood, lol! The stormy seas of his ever-changing eyes.

 

Really, it probably depends on monitor settings & personal preference of where the line between blue and gray is. The lighting in game always changes too, so it makes it hard to get a good look in what would be neutral light. If I was re-creating that eye color in the CC with their eye color chart, it seems like to get it the outer rim would be near the lower right corner in the blue, and the inner rim would be in the left-center mid-low range in blue. Enough so it looked pretty grey, but it would still be blue, because if you moved the color from blue to red, the gray color would turn pink-gray, while if the colors were a true gray, they wouldn't change no matter where you put the color wheel. If that makes sense, lol!!

Hehe - started talking with a friend and he said maybe I should just go with blue-gray vis-a-vis Blackwall's eyes as far as that goes, lol.

 

One of these days, maybe I'll go for a serious color calibration if/when I upgrade to a new system with a really good panel that makes it worth it to invest in an actual color calibration device (and program). Used to have a nice RGB-LED panel with great colors on my M17x laptop, but I moved up to an M18x after the unfortunate attempt at upgrading my video cards that completely fried my M17x. They didn't actually have the same panel available for the M18x, so it's okay color-wise...just not quite as good as that M17x panel - oh well.

To explain, guy friend #2 is aware that I have a huge crush on Blackwall, so he was like, hey, take a look at this thread and go through it because I know you like hot guys (also, he was determined to get me to comment on all the guys and whether or not I actually found them hot - lol!). Also, how that one poster could think that Joel (from TLoU) isn't hot, I will never understand! Oh, and Dorian got linked in there, too - tee-hee!

Our big beardy brute being there too kind of warms my heart.

I have a bit of a thing for certain voices of characters too, mostly deep voiced, all of those fit that, including Blackwall.

Me, too - I like those deep voices. *sigh + swoon* And yes, I told my buddy that I totally found Bigby hot and also found Adam Jensen hot despite the artificial limbs in his case (or maybe that just makes him hotter because I do like high-tech gadgets and whatnot...lol). My buddy already knows about my crush on Joel - hehe. And I do, in fact, have kind of a crush on Dojima Ryotaro from P4G (which is an awesome game if you have not played it), so I was glad to see him in there as well.
