My first male hawke was a disaster, and I thought I'd gotten it worked out by now!

I love making characters -- I'll admit to playing Sims, just to make people. So I spend forever and a day in CC, making them and remaking them and making them again. I loved the toolset they released for DAO. For awhile, all I did was make faces in the toolset! I really miss being able to tweak them after they are finished. I'm always thinking, 'that jawline should be moved just a hair up', or 'the nose should be just a touch broader'. If the character has under 10 hours or so of play, they are always in danger of being re-made. After that, I kind of settle in and get to love them. Then, even when I try to fix what was bothering me, I just can't.

 

I snapped this picture today, and I really liked it. Though on closer inspection, I can't tell if his eyes are open or closed!

I am currently romancing BW with my adaar and the barn kiss is adorable! Also makes me sigh every time I see it! lol

Talking about height difference...is it just me or does Blackwall seem kinda short all around? Even with my elf, he's not that much taller than her. I'm not sure what it is, he's probably the same height as every other human. :S

I think its because of his standard outfit. He's not short, he just looks rather... square, lol. And when you add some pauldrons to his armor, it really doesn't help. I had difficult times convincing my little brother (who really likes watching me play) that Blackwall is actually a human and not a dwarf. Each time he saw Blackwall in my party he had to say someting like "Wow so Varric isn't the only dwarf here?", "So, about that dwarf who you say isn't a dwarf...", etc. Then we got to the Halamshiral episode, and my brother so him in that red-and-blue outfit and was like: "Aha! Completely human after all".

^ Y'know, talking about that, I saw on Aimo's tumblr a while ago that 'Blackwall' (or...Warden character prototype something) was apparently originally sketched as a dwarven character?



Woulda been interesting. Maybe he still has dwarven blood somewhere. :S

Well, he is as much of a dwarf as you can get while remaining human: sturdy, beardy, likes crafting things (judging by that wooden gryffon)... Some dwarven blood indeed be there

Probably not - I think Hell will freeze over before we get a dwarf LI.

And I now feel less silly about sharing this, but I totally thought Blackwall was a half-dwarf when he was first announced, lol (it was that promo image with the Inner Circle standing at the war table...IDK, he just looked quite short and stocky to me).

EDIT: And now I've just checked the image again, he's pretty obviously taller than Varric, and only slightly shorter than Cullen, so Maker knows why my first thought was "Half dwarf!" (Second thought, actually...my first was "UNF.")

..well, I prefer to remain optimistic even tho its unlikely. More likely now after Scout Harding's popularity, I'd say, although Varric's popularity didn't seem to change it either, haha. But. OPTIMISIM!!!

I've been waiting for a dwarf romance in a BioWare game since BG2 when I found out I had to play human, elf or half-elf in order to romance the only available dude. After fifteen years and endless humans, elves, half-elves and aliens, plus a Tiefling and a one-eyed Qunari, I am not holding my breath. That said, I think it will happen some day. I'm just not counting on it being in the next DA game. I really thought we had a good chance with Varric, so hoping for anything in the near future is kind of painful at this point. (Not that Blackwall didn't turn out to be a wonderful consolation prize.)

i think it's something off with the standard animations. My male dude elf seems to be the same height as Cullen and Dorian in some scenes, and taller than Leliana and Cass in others and I know that's not right. Also, female Quizzy qunari shrunk in some scenes (romance ones specifically) so I'm guessing they had a standar male and female human in certain scenes and just a standard in others. I guess only the developers know that, but there have been moments where i thought it just didn't feel right. I saw a female elf pics with him there's a full head between them (also you can see how tall he is compared with Josie and Sera in the still scene from the promos)

And BW a dwarf? I'm okay with this - well very okay as it turns out (although I suspect some Varric fans might have been annoyed!)

I made a haughty, smartass Trevelyan for Iron Bull and I keep rationalizing that she'd be great for Blackwall. I didn't even recruit him. Dear lord, send help.

I almost regret sometimes that he isn't somehow race-gated, because I do want to see the Cullen romance, but I'm afraid I won't be able to pursue it with Blackwall around. If only creating a character of some specific race could lock away all the flirting options, things would have been so much easier. 

 

Also, my keyboard is doing some wierd stuff, it just turned "that" into a "hat" three times, so I apologize for any possible typos.

I thought it might be a subconscious reaction to some of the sillier hats in the game, but Cole does seem like a possible suspect.

 

EDIT: Those Orlesian hats wouldn't be too bad if they didn't have giant flowers stuck on them (or the weird skullcap/flaps/whatever that is).

*puts on labcoat* My research suggests that Blackwall is about as tall as Dorian. Or at least the female elfquisitor seems to have the same height gap with either of them.

I would have taken a shot with Cullen, but my elf actually looked taller than him in Halamshiral. That was because the carpet I was standing on gave me quite a bit of elevation. 

 

The elves apparently got a height upgrade after Origins, so the height difference between BW and female elf seems reasonable. Too bad, I loved the short elves in DAO.

 

And whoa, unlike my mage elf, this quizzy actually looks nice in formal. I kind of wish they'd made it a different color for the Inquisitors, to make them stand out from their lackeys companions.

Haha, nice. I could try to load their models in 3DSmax later, for the final answer...but I srsly applaud that attempt, because I have tried to get them to stand still for height screenies so many times and wanted to scream because THEY WONT STOP MOVING, doing it at the ball is genius.

Nominally amusing, but Blackwall's other hobby might be fishing. I was doing the Pressed for Cache quest in the Exalted Plains, and I ran out onto a fishing pier to tag a supply cache when Blackwall said: "Wonder if the fishing's good. If we had an hour or two..."

 

I did a reload to jot down what he said - also ended up with Cole saying "I've never been swimming!"
