Also the lipsyncing in that scene is godawful so I'm spending half the time mashing escape and cringing.

Unskippable cutscenes are not the future BioWare.

it looked okay the first time I did it (sniffed back a tear even) the second time I did it was out of synch, did the patch muck things up?

Actually, the orchestral version of the song is quite beautiful and sounds much better, but you know, it's f*cking freezing in those mountains....

That's why we need a less....dramatic musical scene in a DLC. Like, I mean, no one complains about the Chargers song/chant, right? Because it's awesome! But opinions are very divided on Leliana and Before the Dawn, because they're such big FEEL THIS SPECIFIC EMOTION RIGHT NOW things and ymmv on whether or not you're ready to feel that emotion, and if you're not, you feel awkward...but pub songs and silly things and Blackwall lightly humming a song about a dog in the background with Sera makes faces into a ...not flashlight ummm like a lantern, or something...well...that's way more fun.

Campfire DLC, yup. I'm still for it.

I think so I don't recall it being that bad in my first playthrough either.

Exactly still good scene or not it erally should be skippable.

Yeah, I liked the singing, but due to issues with my having had my Crossfire setup on when I first started playing...I kept crashing when I arrived at Skyhold. After watching the Dawn scene about five-plus times, I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wanted to be able to skip it at that point - lol. Turned Crossfire off, which fixed matters, but yikes...that was a little on the trying side.

So on my first playthrough as a male elf rogue, Blackwall seemed to be nice, if a bit distant at first. On my second playthrough as a male human mage, in my first conversation with him, he tells me flat out that he doesn't like me. How rude. I got you of the streets and have been nothing but kind to you and THIS is how you treat me?! I have stopped playing right after getting Blackwall because I am waiting for this mysterious patch that we ma o may not ever actually get because I want a less glitchy second PC playthrough. So my question for those of you that have been down this line- does Blackwall hate mages or something?

Yeah, I actually like the Dawn Will Come scene, but it's so cheesy. I can see why people don't like it, and the Leliana scene was way too uncanny valley for me. It would be nice with more scenes like the one with the Chargers so I second the notion that we need a Campfire DLC.

Still kinda want an uber dramatic Les Miserables style number for Alastair Parker though...

Its easy to get on the disapproval path with him quickly if you choose options he doesn't like like conscripting Mages/Templars, or saying you're doing it for your own power at Skyhold.

What point in the game were you at and what decisions had you made?

He definitely doesn't have a thing against mages, it's just you.

Okay, but here is the dialogue we are talking about.

Solas never says he's uncomfortable with it. He doesn't feel bullied. He's not like, WOOHOO I LOVE THIS,...His side of the conversation is essentially him making [disgusted noise]. Solas is pretentious and serious, but he's also playful and wry. He's not the type to be upset by this, but more importantly, if he was, he would make his disapproval very clear and Blackwall would back off.

Contrast this with these two banters where he does actually offend Varric.

You'll note he immediately realizes he's crossed a line, and stops talking. Then later, he is cautious when talking to Varric, because he percieves that his overfamiliarity before upset him.  Now, if you actually listen to all their banters, you realize it's because Varric has misjudged him and associated him with Sebastian, but Blackwall doesn't have that info. He just reads that Varric is upset and he adjuts accordingly.

I can see someone finding his banter with Solas inappropriate, but bullying is so far from what happens that I just don't get it. I'm not sure why this bothers me so much, but lmao, now I have spent so much time overanalyzing this one banter that I feel very strongly about it, apparently.

No need to post dialogues. I remember what I heard.

I'm just curious why someone has to state they are uncomfortable with it for it to be akin to bullying. So any bully victim who doesn't tell the bullies to stop isn't being bullied? And he does make his disapproval of the topic known. Everything he says in that banter is as you put it 'making [disgusted noise]'. People don't make that sound for things they don't disapprove of. But Rainier keeps pushing anyway. That no longer makes it benevolent teasing.

It bothers you because you don't like anyone saying bad things about Rainier possibly?

Odd, he certainly liked me well enough...but maybe that's because I'm a female mage and/or due to flirting? I don't recall him ever going off on me about the whole mage thing.

It's perfectly possible to be the butt of someones joke, dislike it and still not feel bullied. I get teased and tease my friends and my boyfriend all the time, and sometimes you get burned. But then you just wait for the perfect opportunity to strike back. As long as everyone is in on the jokes, it's not that big of a deal.

And you do realize that you are now deciding if Solas should feel bullied or not, I don't think he does. I think that Solas would voice his concern loudly if he really felt bullied. Telling someone if and when they should be offended is kinda a pet peeve of mine, it's patronizing.

I never said whether Solas should feel bullied or not. I said Rainier's behavior in that banter seems a lot like bullying and that Solas showed he didn't want to/like talking about it yet Rainier kept pushing the topic.

I think that people in here don't have a problem with those who dislike Blackwall because of what he did (should they find that they can't forgive him for what he did). But when someone tries to project/fabricate/attribute negative behavior that is completely non-existent onto him, it's a smidgen annoying.

For example, just because someone is upset of the romance scene in the loft, that doesn't make Blackwall a rapist. And just because they don't like Blackwall, he's not suddenly a bully because of one piece of off-color banter in which he asks Solas about Fade spirits and sex. Sorry, but you're kind of making a mountain out of a molehill again and projecting something onto him that just isn't there.

And again, I kind of find it ridiculous that a god...or whatever you want to call him at this point...is somehow going to let himself be bullied. I'll just point out yet again that Solas will kill every single mage involved in binding his spirit friend in All New, Faded for Her if you let him go through with it. Please, let's be real about this: if Solas considered Blackwall's and Sera's question to be anything more than a harmless - if annoying/exasperating - question, he absolutely could have done something about it.

If you want to claim that someone's bullying someone else, then maybe you should be able to back that claim up with an established pattern of behavior. In the case of Solas and Blackwall, absolutely no such pattern of bullying behavior exists. The two men are quite friendly/companionable the whole darned time (except for when Solas is temporarily angry with Blackwall after the Revelations quest).

I get the feeling that if you asked most people about this particular Solas-Blackwall banter, they'd probably just find it funny instead of ascribing weird connotations to the banter, such as it being bullying (because it's just not).

I even acknowledged how they are supposed to have a positive relationship, and that this dialogue didn't fit with the relationship the game tries to give them to me.

Wow my disapproval for Viv must be sky high given her behaviour, (talk about passive aggressive!) and I've hardly talked to her, so Syre297 I think if you don't talk to him often and do things he disapproves of, yeah, he's likely to react that way. Have you guys seen Cassandras disapproval scene? Ouch! That one stung.

Oh and sympathy for Solas, and this is a pixelated character we're talking about, one who you know betrays you, lies to you, and NOT a real person who is actually being bullied, (and to equate this conversation to real life acceptance of bullying is pretty bloody low, even by drama llama standards, but considering what we've been accused of in the past it doesn't surprise me) on a scale of 1-10 tiny violins, is around nano sized for this particular conversation. Solas is a big boy, LMAO, he can tackle gods and Mages who have abused his spirit friends, sexual innuendo is hardly going to faze him. He's obviously signalling the conversation is well beneath him. Gotta love the logic, 'I feel uncomfortable therefore the character must be uncomfortable' Projection! Projection everywhere!

Dayum, sometimes I have to remind myself not to be drawn into stupid arguments.

That also reminds me - the one thing I think Blackwall and Solas have in common, they're lying liars who lie. I love them for it.

LOL.

Not a thread goes by when I don't see you pissing someone off and then trying to guilt them for reacting to it.

Time to put the drama llama back on ignore.

Oh and here guys, if you haven't heard it the orchestral version of the Dawn will come:

Well, while it may, unfortunately, give the impression of bullying to you for whatever reason, it pretty clearly isn't that at all. I mean, what can anyone really say? I think everyone gets that that's how you're viewing this because of your reason(s), but you kind of make it sound as if other people are wrong when they're just trying to point out that this is really nothing more than a funny and decidedly impertinent question, as opposed to being bullying or bully-like behavior.

I'm sure that the writers were just trying to write some fairly funny dialogue, but I guess they weren't able to account for the more unusual reactions people might have to this particular banter. I'm just going to say that your take on this thing strikes me as being, well, on the unusual side. Being companionable/friendly most of the time doesn't mean you can't have the occasional ribbing and/or off-color questions. Blackwall does seem like kind of an earthy guy, and Sera can be crass and vulgar (but also entertaining), so I can kind of see it happening, especially if Sera is instigating.

My opinion is that the companions are all supposed to have different sides to their personalities. Sometimes they might display humor, vulgarity, kindness, sorrow, anger, etc. So yeah, maybe you have someone firing off a rude question/whatever once in a while or being a jerk, etc. To me, that makes them a bit more realistic, instead of forcing them to behave within a narrow set of parameters. *shrug*

I thought I'd test this out.

When you talk to him the first time after recruiting him, when he asks you, "What about you? How do you fit into all of this?" If you answer, "Some worship me. I like that." Then you'll get disapproval. If you talk to him again directly after this, an option comes up (one of those starred types) to say, "What's wrong with you?" If you ask him that, he'll tell you that he doesn't like you.

If you get the first disapproval on "some worship me", but go out and do a couple grey warden things, your approval will go back up and that starred option to ask him what's wrong with him goes away. I assume it comes back again if your approval drops low again.

I'd never seriously taken the "worship me" line, so I'd never followed it up and seen the starred "what's wrong with you" before. Most the time when I explore dialogue I immediately reload for my proper choice. I haven't had a quizzie who would seriously say that yet!

Yeah I find it difficult to do the 'worship me' thing. Most disapproval I seem to get is just stumbling into doing the wrong thing. Or following a certain alignment. Technically, you can build your alignment and I can do this with some things, but it's not easy to do others.

You call it bullying, I call it friendly teasing. I thought it was obvious that Solas wasn't that offended, I mean he played a long. If he really didn't want them to go there he could have just switched the subject to something completely different instead of discussing his relationship with spirits. The ass comment was basically just "I can't come up with a witty retort so I'm just gonna call you an ass instead". And Blackwall's totally fine with being called that, because he knows that he deserves it. Friends (and siblings) do things like that all the time.

But it's clear from the other banter between them that they are friends, and that they have a lot of respect for each other. Sure, Solas gets mad after Blackwall's reveal but he comes around pretty fast. After all, he's the last person to judge someone for hiding their identity and making shitty decisions.

I hated the Chargers' song tbh. I didn't really care about them and the song felt like Bioware was trying too hard to make me like them. The Dawn Will Come made me cringe at first, but everyone bowing before the herald was kinda heartwarming. These two scenes are nowhere as awful as dancing with the Duchess in terms of cringiness IMO.

So Blackwall is a bully now, huh. What will his next crime be - arson? Horse theft? Talking in theater?

Why the hate for the Chargers? The song, maybe, but the Chargers?

I don't get it.
