Er. Do those two really block the romance? I thought it just gives you "greatly diaspproves" that can be easily fixed by collecting a couple of GW shinies. Also, I did side with Briala once, and it went absolutely fine, Blackwall even approved of it, if memory serves me right. It's Gaspard he hates, Briala is ok in his books  :)

Oh I know you can get away with some disapproves but I wanted to make her mindset at least match his so it's easier for me to romance him.

I never exiled the Wardens myself and lol I'm sure many here didn't either cos Blackwall. I wonder what he says though if you exile them with him in party, gotta youtube this, can't say I'll ever do it in game.

@clover: Yeah, you can still get away with doing things he doesn't like and make up for it elsewhere, but better safe than sorry on the first go at the romance. I believe he was just fine with things when I had Celene and Briala hook up - pretty sure I got approval for that one (which was probably due to his belief in/hope for second chances or because I kept the rightful ruler on the throne, or maybe both - heh).

Oh, I see. In that case I can just say again that he is okay with Briala, it's Gaspard he really doesn't like. That surprised me a lot at first, but then I heard his story and figured that it's probably not Gaspard's personality that Blackwall hates, but Gaspard's involvement in his crime. Btw, it was really nice when my Inquisitor (who was fully aware of Blackwall's feelings toward Gaspard) had made him the emperor, and when she complained she wasn't sure she'd made the right call Blackwall replied: "Nonsense, you did what you believed was right, nothing else matters!". Like it wasn't him angrily growling about the man half an hour ago. He disagreed with the decision, but still gave the Quizzie the support she needed at the moment.

I must say, I don't really feel like I have the authority to exile them. Sure, they screwed up, but still. We could at least ask the head of Orlais how they feel on the matter,  exiling all the Wardens from their country, no?

As for Blackwall's reaction if you exile the Wardens with him in party, I heard he asks if he should go too.

Yeah he does.

Ahhhhh, my husband loves Blackwall as much as I do, but doesn't know anything about who he "really" is. Maker, grant me the strength to keep it to myself.

Sooo..I was digging through game files searching for Blackwall related stuff and encountered some lines that are not in the game. That or I've done something horribly wrong in my playthrough. Because apparently at some point we could've asked Blackwall about his past and his life as Thom Rainier. At least some of Inquisitors lines indicate this. Uploaded some bits to this playlist if someone is curious, hope it works.
This is actually what I would've expected. Absence of that kind of dialogue/scene or at least something more..personal after the judgment was my only complaint about his romance(since as a proud Garrusmancer I already learned my lesson and know that Bioware don't do blankets ;) ). *sigh* Let's see if I can find some more.

Wow, interesting. Am assuming that he is being truthful about being from Markham based on the Markham/Colorless bits, despite the earlier part where the Quizzy seems to be asking if he's actually Orlesian. He'd certainly better be from Markham, or I'm going to have to do a semi-massive rewrite of some stuff...lol.

Leliana's report also says he is from Markham, so I wouldn't worry.

@clover: Yeah, that's true! Also, after listening to all of that, I really want to know what the heck it is that he wanted to show the Quizzy off in the Dales...hmmmmm.

Yeah, that Dales comment seriously sent my mind into overdrive. Maybe that was going to be the original destination for Explanations? After the quest, whenever he mentions retrieving Blackwall's badge he refers to a "ruin", which always struck me as odd.

Also very curious about this line:
"I can't let you lead me down this path...and I can't watch you take it."

Maybe you could've turned him to the DS?

Damnit if so because I'd been all over that.

@cred: Good point on the "ruin" thing - also wondered about that line you mentioned as well. Maybe it's some sort of special breakup line where you do too many things that he disapproves of? And/or he flat-out leaves if you've gone totally dark side.

Yeah. I think Explanations originally supposed to be in the Dales. I remember during my first playthrough when he gives you that quest and never mentions where to go, so I had to look up the map and figure out what he meant.

And the second line probably still is in the game. It looks like part of the dialogue when you're in relationship with him but than have too low approval level so that scene where he leaves Inquisition is triggered.

Whew, he really brought the ice with that "I can't believe that I was once so enamored with you" line. I felt thoroughly sneered at.

Maybe the original destination for where you were supposed to go with him was where the kids were killed? That could be in the Dales, and yeah then those lines about endless death and ruins and battles would be more poignant for him. Interesting.

I also wonder if they meant to go anywhere with the oddities in his first quest, like...Blackwall being actively tracked, or running into his old men or something...there's these threads that play out fine in the game, but also seem like maybe bits were chopped off.

But honestly, I think out of all the companions, he has one of the more coherent and consistent stories, so it doesn't bother me...just curious, I suppose.

I wish some of those lines were actually in game!

I, too, wonder if his quest was supposed to be at some ruins in the Dales now.  But, I'm with veeia.  He has one of the best stories of the companions.

A bunch of those lines are in the game. I only just got them and I would swear they were not there the first two times I romanced Blackwall. But this time after the judgement and a few more map clears I was able to question him on himself. The truth. You can ask him a bit about himself and he answers truthfully. The only thing I did not like about it is the accusatory tone in my quizzies voice. I forgave him and I wish she did not still sound so angry. I love his reply to do you have a family if you romance him.

Strange.  I have completed the game with my first Blackwall pt and did 3 maps after his story and the game were done and don't recall hearing any of those or getting any extra dialogue with him.

Though it does seem that all convos with all companions completely goes away after the game is finished.  *Firmly presses the dislike button for this.*

When can you ask him that?! Also, are the lines "Mind if I sit here" and "How's your day been" etc in the game?

I haven't listened to the lines y'all are talking about because I'm on my phone, but after the judgment, you can definitely talk to Blackwall about his past....just a few questions, one is if he's Orlesian (and he says he's from Markham) and one is if he has family....and hrm....I feel like there's one more at least...but have you guys not gotten that option at all? I'm confused.

I did not get those options.  I got to ask him what I should call him and I guess he really knew nothing about the wardens and nothing else :(

Oh no! That stinks! I mean, it's not a whole lot of content, but now I get why people were saying that they didn't feel like they had *any* kind of follow up if those lines are harder to get or bug out.

Same. Maybe they come up if you don't ask him about his past before Revelations? That's the only explanation I can think of atm.
