Okay, yeah, then it's not quest order. Darn, I was hoping to find an easy work around for people.

I think Quizzie says something similar in the jail cell or at the judgment, so maybe you got them confused? Those dialogue options also disappear after you've taken them, so is it possible you did get it and forgot? Unless you're loading from before/immediately after the judgment, then, yeah, that is weird, and maybe it's just a similar line to a different one.

I remember something similar to a "the truth this time" line that happens at some point, but it wasn't a dialogue wheel option (like the choice after judgement).

Thank you, Veeia, for uploading that video!!

I checked my files, and my order is exactly as the one you listed, including having to go through the eluvian with Morrigan before finding him.

For dialogue, I did do it differently. On the "Let's talk about you" tree, I left the "Where are you from?" and the "You weren't always a Warden." questions until later in the game. I took those dialogue options sometime after I received his quest to go find the badge but before the kiss in the bedroom. Not sure if that would have anything to do with it or not.

I didn't know Barris could die either, till I was doing a Hard playthrough and let the health of the room dip too low while I explored looking for goodies. Bad me! But it was just hard, not nightmare, and I'd had a save right before that fight started, so I redid it and saved him :D My nightmare run is coming up soon. Haven't decided which class will be better to play it in. Hard doesn't seem too much different than Normal, I always forget I have the difficulty changed from the first time around. Once in a while something will kick my butt and remind me, though!

Confusing that line with another one seems to be the most likely scenario lol

I replayed the judgement scene and talked to BW on the romance PT and nada.

Nightmare is much more difficult than Hard, which I also found pretty easy as well. Hard just really wants you to have a solid understanding of your abilities and the general combat concepts, IMO. Nightmare turns bears and terror demons early game from "oh an a enemy that is slightly harder but gives more xp!!" to "RUN AWAAAAYYY RUN AWAAAAYYY IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE"

Nightmare does even out after you get Skyhold because of specializations and crafting though. The hardest part on nightmare is the Haven battle, it can be veeeeery difficult...it took me like 20 tries or something ridiculous. You could overlevel though and it would probably be easier. I'm also a ...mid level gamer I suppose, in that I can do Nightmare and its fine but I look at the ppl going "soloed the Haven fight on NM with a rogue in 5 minutes, yawn" and go "....cry", so ymmv.

I think any class works, but DW rogue and 2H warrior are the hardest because they are so squishy in the beginning and again, the first part of the game is the hardest by far. I did rift Mage and usually had a party of Solas, Sera, and Blackwall and it went well, minus the Haven battle and the final push against the barrier at Therinfall (out of potions no health, cry cry cry, the worst) which again, will be the hardest for everyone, IMO.

Oh wow I have not seen those questions before either! I have a save before every blackwall moment so I will double check but hopefully they get that sorted in a patch (plus more conversation please!). I rewatched the early flirting today, seriously he best in the game. More of that please.

I had a feeling Nightmare would be a huge jump, which is why I thought I'd do Hard first, and sort of ease myself into it. My first game was on normal, and it was pretty easy except for getting used to the controls, and sorely feeling the lack of tactics (especially as I'd recently replayed DAO!).

I expect in Nightmare I'll be doing a lot of this:

edit: My first class is always a dual dagger rogue... I love them, no matter what problems they might have!  But at least, that playthrough is out of the way, and probably won't return until I do my ultimate canon game!

That gif describes me on Normal difficulty running away from dragons with my undergeared necromancer in the past - lol. I'm KE on Nightmare and almost everything is easy (although prior to spec'ing, like veeia said, the assault on Haven was very, very painful...).

I did Hard to Nightmare too, it's a good plan!

The thing that prepared me most for Nightmare was accidentally ending up in a situation where I had to fight Alexius on hard with all my characters at minimum health and no potions because I was getting so smug on Hard that I wasn't paying attention to caches and just using them up even when I didn't need them, and my last save was like 5 hours back, sooo I had to pause and micromanage every step of the battle. Not that Nightmare is THAT demanding, but after that I felt like I knew the combat system like 100000 times better, hehe.

And good luck for us too, because Blackwall is such a good tank, he is perfect for using on NM because after his specialty he just never dies, so even though I was romancing Sera and had resolved to use something other than Team Vulgar for once, I was like WELL I HAVE TO USE BLACKWALL, OBV

(Cass is a great tank too I was reaching to justify carting that dirtbag around all the time again but worth it I love himmm...plus he and Solas and Sera is such a fun team..all the teams...are so great...why can't I bring them all, cry)

And samesies with DW rogues!! Just love them so much.

When I replay my canon DW rogue Cadash, I'm gonna do it on Nightmare, lol. I think it won't be as hard now since I know how to do it, and after Skyhold I can throw guard generating daggers on her and it will be magic, but before then Blackwall is gonna be doing overtime to protect his squishy and over enthusiastic about running up and stabbing people girlfriend.

Oooh, i loved playing with guard generating daggers! I did that near the end of my first game once I started crafting, and it was soo much fun. The rogue skills are really addictive.  Is it wrong that I get such glee from stabbing people? *ponders but not for too long* Nahhh.

Whoa, so it's a bug. That's kind of a good news..I guess. At least there is a chance that I could make it work in my playthrough somehow. I'm too playing on PC and did all quests just like veeia described. Twice. No luck. And thank you so much for uploading a video, some of the lines from that convo were corrupted for some reason and I couldn't convert them properly. Here's the saddest kind of bugs, like with party banters, which don't let you to interact and to know characters as it were supposed to be.  :(

I went through my screenshot folder and read all my conversations and stuff. Everything was exhausted. The only possible variable that might be an issue is when we found the warden-constable badge? This was my game order. Probably means nothing, but still.

- Lone Warden

- exhaust all conversations with him in Haven

- recruit all the other companions

- finish sign of wardens, start flirting after

- Hushed Whispers

- Chat about Blackwall's future self in mage time travel

- In Your Heart Shall Burn

- Conversation on Skyhold ramparts (he pleads to not continue relationship)

- Chat at barn about "You are who you choose to follow"/chevalier story

- Apologizes for pushing away, acquire quest to find the warden-constable badge

- Hawke/Western Approach quests

- Into the Abyss

- Blackwall talks about Grey Wardens and Corypheus, evasive answers afterwards on how to kill archdemon

- Find the warden-constable badge finally, Blackwall appears in Skyhold bedroom, romance locked in.

- Wicked Eyes & Wicked Hearts, do the eluvian thing with Morrigan afterwards

- Grab a drink, he disappears in the morning

- Revelations

- What do I call you now? Scrambled eggs, huh? (No "truth" investigate tree.)

I'm wondering if I should have done the warden-constable badge quest before doing the Grey Warden stuff? Other than that, I have got no clue at all.

I've finished quest with badge before any of Grey Wardens stuff, didn't help. Though I did other quests in a bit different orden than yours so doing Explanations before might have helped in this case..maybe.

I did the badge immediately at Skyhold. Like if there was a Blackwall thing, just assume I triggered it the second it was available. He was locked in before I even talked to Hawke, lmao. (And I didn't even plan for this, I was gonna romance Sera first! Oh, Blackwall)

I never completed the Wardens thing, actually. Blackwall was just bleeding approval for me, so I mean, if they were nearby, we'd grab them, but I don't think I ever finished it. I am sure I probably grabbed at least one from the Storm Coast at least before I triggered Explanations though.

It's grabbing at straws, but maybe we can find a workaround if we grab at the right straw? It could be a random error and there's no way to predict it, but maybe not. Took awhile for people to figure out how to make sure to trigger Dorian's quest, but we seem to have it down now...if we keep brainstorming, maybe we will get it here, altho damn. It's hard to experiment with something that happens so late game. I'll try to trigger revelations tomorrow with my finished game male dwarf that Blackwall is in a mutual "wary don't like you" relationship with and see if I get it there, just to have more info.

Hmmm, I finished Explanations very early - actually completed it before Memories of the Grey, heh.

Yeah, i finished Explanations first too. I finished Memories of the Grey later, after he'd been judged. It doesn't seem to be exhausting the conversation in Haven, since Gilsa did that already and still had the bug! Hmmm. I wish this game was easier to mod, things like all the dialog patches/fixes we had in DAO will probably come much later, if at all. At least there's veeia with youtube!

So same as me, and you did not get the dialogue, right? Hrm.

Do you know if you triggered Explanations before talking to Hawke? For the Dorian quest, talking to Hawke is one of the potential problems spots, so maybe Hawke just messes everything up. It certainly keeps with the themes of da2, poor Hawke.

But looks more likely that it's not going to be something easy to avoid, boo.

I spoke with Hawke, and I went to the first part of the quest where you meet Stroud (or your alternate Warden), and I went to the desert where you first meet Erimond (sp?), and find out that the Wardens are trouble.

After that, I went to retrieve the badge, and got the batman kissy kissy scene and locked in the romance. I did a bunch of other character quests around that same time. Then after all companions were up to date, I went to do the Adamant quest and brought Blackwall with me into the fade.

@Veeia: Did you say you ran through the various ways of getting him from jail and/or the responses when you judge him? And always got the dialogue?

If not, do you remember which choices you took to get him out, etc? (grabbing at more straws, lol)

Edit: Could be Hawke, lol! This play through I'm on now is for Dorian, so I'm not going near Hawke for a bit, just to be on the safe side. Maybe that'll help with Blackwall too. Poor Hawke. Not that it should change anything, but who got sacrificed at Adamant in your game, Veeia? I left Stroud there in mine.

I did run through all (well several different ones) the dialogue trees but I did not run through all the ways to break him out, actually, I always use the Underworld Perks one...I can try the others, haha. Right now I'm supposedly "falling asleep" so I'm in bed on my phone playing Blackwall detective instead and can't go gather Blackwall detective evidence atm, sadly, but I will try that + triggering Revelations with my character who didn't get that woodworking cutscene with Blackwall before talking to hawke tomorrow.

Blackwall detective work is the best detective work because, so much Blackwall.

Ah, well I saved Hawke and sacrificed Stroud. As for the Wardens, I kept them on instead of exiling them. Had the romance locked in waaaaay before Wicked Eyes and Adamant (I was impatient!).

I want to add too, that after running that jail + judgment scene so many times, just HUGE kudos to whoever animated Quizzie in those scenes, because my heart breaks for how sad and lost and confused she looks, or how angry and betrayed, or whater emotion the dialogue you pick expresses. I mean Blackwall's animation is great too, but I'm so impressed with how well Quizzie's facial animations came out in all their scenes since there are so many more variables there.

I like to bag on the first kiss scene for the height difference issue, but that adorable freaking smirk on her face when she's all I KNEW YOU WOULD COME kills me every time. There's just a lot of great details.

In playing Blackwall detective, I just got the banter with Sera and Blackwall, where he tells her he stole all the beards, and it made me laugh. I love that banter so much. There can be only one!

I will try using the underworld perk too, and see if I get it for that.

I have a playthrough coming up that I intend to let Hawke be sacrificed (Alistair is the grey warden, and I can't leave him because I'm a huge softie), so maybe that will be the trigger. Hawke must die! (or at least, give the appearance of dying, as it's not *actually* seen)

@veeia: Also how his eyebrows lift before he goes in for the first kiss. Why I find that hot, I have no idea...hmm, maybe it's because it looks like he's so damned into it and can't hold back anymore - lol.

swoon at that whole scene, tbh. I don't talk about how hot it is enough, lmao, and I should because I went there to dump his ass for Sera and then I was like WAIT WAIT NVM IT GOT SEXY AND MELODRAMATIC UP IN HERE I CANT STOP
