I was thinking I got one more conversation after that ... something about Wilfred surviving everything, but when they were almost out of the desert, he stole the men's water, and they had to kill him? I wish I'd taken a screenshot during all those dialogues!

Yes, there is that, I've heard it too. I believe this is actually the last part of the story.

@leldra, I felt like Blackwall doesn't really think less of you, he's just having a Moment where he's being melodramatic and making it all about him, and now he's made you into a criminal, oh no, he's so terrible, the woooorst, etc. I mean it does come across as hypocritical, but I don't think he's really thinking there, he's just wallowing in self-loathing.

Yeeeees, I especially like the part where he says "Why did you have to do this? I was ready for all this to end!" in super melodramatic voice  Yeah, there you were, ready to die and finally be done with all your problems, but nope, evil little Inquisitor couldn't just leave you be. I wonder what his reaction was when the guards  told him to get out of the jail 'cause the Inquisition is claiming him (I used Josie's option).

Sabreenei, do you mind if I link that on Tumblr? Prob could get even more data that way. You would be able to see all the individual responses to isolate things/patterns, right? (Haven't used google forms before)

@clover, I don't know, do you mean Cullen's LETS STORM THE JAIL? suggestion? lmfao, Cullen. I need to use that next test.

I love the circle of nugs and singing sea chanties, made me laugh so much. Also, I just brought Blackwall & Dorian to the Storm Coast, and it was so funny to hear their reactions one right after the other. Blackwall's like, yay, ocean and ships and boats and the hearty smell of the sea air! Bracing!! and Dorian's all, uuuughggghhhh, seasick, get me away from this forsaken place, why did you ever bring me here?!

Yeah, it turns out that that's not the end of the story. I feel like saying "But wait...there's more!" infomercial-style, because shortly thereafter, I went to another tomb and got more out of him. I will type in the exchange verbatim now!

Inquisitor: Let's see what's in this one.

Blackwall: Fine, but let's not linger.

Inquisitor: Not fond of deserts after what you've been through?

Blackwall: I didn't even tell you the worst of it. We woke up three days later. No armor. Surrounded by hungry ghasts.

Blackwall: The first thing I saw was the little monsters trying to drag us off into some dank pit.

Inquisitor: How did you escape?

Blackwall: You'd be surprised what a man armed with a rock and a headache can do.

Sure! Link away!

It lets you see all the responses in a spread sheet excel form, which is helpful to compare. I love spreadsheets. haha. But I do! I probably should've done a few of the questions differently -- I realized afterwards that the question about when you got the conversation with the Chevalier could be different, depending on how you played the game. I decided to include the Dales there, just in case there's a bug with going to the Dales first -- since there was that line found in the unused voice lines about going to the Dales. I thought maybe they were intending for us to go there for his quest, and maybe if you go there first, there's still something in the code that causes it to bug. But it doesn't seem to be the case so far!

No, as much as I liked Cullen's straightforwardness I thought that was a bit too much. Besides, Blackwall might have gotten a heart attack if more people died to free him. So I asked Josephine to use her connections and our influence. I imagine at some point the jailers must have come to Blackwall's cell and tell him the great news.

Oh my god, Atreiya that's amazing. I know I said I prob wouldn't date Blackwall irl because his first scenes are so dramatic and I prefer dudes who are a bit more stable but I think I'll have to go back on that, because outside the drama he's so normal and all his stories about betting on fat nugs or tripping balls in the desert just make me want to hang out with him. Just like, get him in therapy or s/t too because I cannot deal with a dude who puts me on a pedestal and throws himself down....from personal experience, too exhausting lmao. (Way too many dudes have wanted me to be their Manic Pixie Dream Girl)

Blackwall would be perfect if you could keep him from putting you on a pedestal. That's why I love him with my snarky rogue, she just won't let him keep her there, and then he laughs and gets over his bout of 'you are so wonderful'.  I had a long term thing with a guy that was a huge drama llama, and was forever either acting like I was the moon and sky, or like I was trying to be the sun to his Icarus wings. It was exhausting.

Under his incredible self-guilt, Blackwall really is just a chill guy, and I love that. He'd probably carve you some really cool bookshelves, and keep the house really well maintained. Unnngggggggghhh... I just thought of, Blackwall in a toolbelt working around the house.

Once I'm done running "tests", I'm going take Blackwall on a date to the Hissing Wastes, just the two of us. I will hear this story no matter how many times he has to to revive me.

I agree. Cullen's solution is the one that I think of when I use the phrase "busting someone out of jail." Subtle! I also imagine that to be the solution least appreciated by Blackwall. Unless RP demands it, I will probably always go with Josie on this.

And yes, here is the official last part (I think) - finally got it in Fairel's Tomb (only TWO playthroughs to get the whole story out of him, haha):

Inquisitor: I've never seen a rune like this before. Is this what the venatori were after?

Blackwall: Men have died in the desert for worse things.

Inquisitor: But not you?
Blackwall: Wilfred. Damn fool survived a flood, a bout of madness, ghasts, even a wyvern that stalked us halfway out of the wastelands...

Blackwall: A day out from civilization, he did the stupidest thing you can do in a desert.

Inquisitor: What's that?

Blackwall: Tried to steal someone's water while he was sleeping.

Blackwall: Maker help us, we left the idiot bastard's bones where they lay.

Okay, that story was supremely funny...right until the end there. Thanks for sharing, Blackwall, sweetie...but maybe the cutoff point should've been that last part about headaches and rocks! Although I guess that could be considered morbidly funny...

Okay, threw it in the tag! Hopefully we'll get a few more responses from that, because I am really enjoying playing through the Blackwall scenes with my other characters, but it just...takes...so long....

I like how the thread is all YEAH...SCIENCE joking about Blackwall, but then as soon as we find a problem, we're all testing hypotheses and making spreadsheets and whipping out meticulously organized screenshots. We are good at sexy science and also real data analysis. :P

Have any of you done much playing around with leaving Blackwall to his fate in prison? I was messing around last night left him to die and I didn't hear any sort of follow up conversation from anyone in Skyhold. Is there anyone who comments on leaving him?

I thought it was funny/strange that I could instantly start into relationships with other people and no one mentions anything about it.

I haven't done that yet, but I have been wondering about it. I think my Trev (nonromancing) is going to do that.

I know Sera says something, but I can't remember if it's in a banter, or if you have to ask her about Blackwall, or if its both.

Interesting, I got a different line on my current playtrough. Something like "Alas, some people just aren't cut out to become a Grey Warden". I visited Hissing Wastes before Revelations, however, I suppouse you were there after the big reveal?

Thanks! I'll do some more playing around on my end and see if I can find some mention of it. Seems like the most drastic response to the situation when romancing the guy I figure someone has to say something!

Oooh, I love little things like that! I wonder what Blackwall says if you take him to Valammar after the reveal, since if you take him before you ask him about how many Darkspawn you should expect to encounter and he's like "uhhh...just be ready...hard to say...." (Good one BW, nailed it)

@Atreiya -- Thanks for sharing all that! I had Blackwall and Varric in my group the entire game and Varric took conversation priority when we went into each of the tombs, which makes perfect sense as a surface dwarf. It didn't even occur to me that Blackwall would have separate dialogue.

Yep, I finished Revelations before dragging Blackwall off to the Hissing Wastes, so I guess the last line that I got replaces the Warden line because he's being totally truthful at this point.

@Gilsa: No problemo - you're welcome! I noticed that certain people took priority when I started switching the group up, too. And yeah, when I brought Varric, his lines took priority over other people's lines apparently. Solas & Cole also seemed to have an exchange at one tomb that took priority over Blackwall's story, I guess. Anyway, I rolled with Blackwall, Cole, and Dorian to be on the safe side this time, so I finally got the whole thing (whew).

Don't know about that, but I had a funny exchange between him and Vivienne during the darkspawn quest in Western Approach post-reveal. Blackwall said something like "Darkspawn are probably nesting here!" to which Vivienne replied: "Oh? Is that your EXPERT opinion?". Also, after picking one of the GW relics for his quest he said that "it's nice to be still helping the Wardens, even after... everything that happened", though usually he's just "Oh, great, thanks, that's cool".

@Atreiya -- I had Iron Bull, Cole, and Dorian on my second game and Iron Bull got priority. He paid attention to how the tombs were set up and marveled at dwarven engineering.

Blackwall's prison fate got me thinking. Since I exiled the Wardens while in a romance with him, I loaded up my saves to see if there'd be an acknowledgement of this by giving him over to the Wardens. Nothing. I checked out both the break-up and keep-going versions. I talked with him at the barn after. Nothing about the exiled wardens. In fact, the only place that the exile is mentioned is on the "Consequences of Blackwall's Lie" war table mission.

Here's the operation text for recruiting the wardens (bold part is what will change in the exiled version):

Haha, yeah - I got that line from Viv as well after grouping up with her for a quest after Revelations (I was curious to see what she'd have to say about it all). Ditto on the Memories of the Grey. I did Revelations before finishing it, so I got the response that you mentioned!

@gilsa: Ah, I've forgiven the Wardens every time, so I had not seen the exiled version of that war table misson - cool. I think this is probably the only time I'll ever see that. I have a soft spot for Wardens a la Leliana, so I just can't make myself exile them - hehe.

I can't make myself exile them because they did nothing wrong, especially the non-mage Wardens. They were suffering the Calling so wanted to make the world as safe as they could before they died.  They were basically being Thane from Mass Effect.

So far, we have four people (out of twenty) that have gotten the dialogue! Still a small sample, but here are some updates:

They thing they have in common that most don't: they all left Hawke in the fade. Also, two of them have the lowest play time when doing the judgement quest out of everyone who has replied with times (under 50 hours at time of judgement) Got a 'no' with a short playtime. I don't know if that would have anything to do with anything, but it's interesting!

There are two other people (so far) that left Hawke in the fade, but didn't get the conversation. One of these has Gaspard ruling, but I'm not sure of the difference on the other. Could be something about the timing of the Chevalier conversation, or the time when the judgement began (only differences that jump out).

All commonalities so far:

Platform: PC

Brought Blackwall to meet with Hawke & the Grey Warden in Crestwood

Brought Blackwall to Adamant and into the Fade

Left Hawke in the Fade

Kept Wardens

Celene Rules

two with low playtimes (under 20 hours to get to Skyhold, under 50 hours for judgement), two unanswered (got another yes, with a long playtime)

I almost always exile them, but not always out of punishment, but to keep them/us safe. At that point, Quizzie has seen two examples of Wardens being corrupted by Cory (adamant and the original incident at the chantry as seen in the fade), and she/he just doesn't have the time or resources to spare to make sure that doesn't happen again. It's not personal and I don't intend it as a death toll for the order, even though they seriously need to start reexamining their priorities.

Well again, not all of them. One of my Quizzies was like "lol eff u guys", but most of the exiling ones are just "...let's deal with this later k guys?"
