Except he then attempts to worsen those rumors by going "Hey you still love me right?" (I will never get over how disgustingly timed this is. Do this in public in front of my soldiers and advisors? Why. And to make it worse there's not even a "Not now." choice so I can talk about it in private.)

 

I remember feeling more like I was abusing my power at this point than ever.  Honestly, I think this is just a bit of cramming everything into one cutscene as opposed to being a purposeful "two finger salute" to the world.

 

ETA: I kind of envision a private moment in my mind instead of the open display.  I think that an arguement for it actually happening is he is just too emotional to care at that moment and must deal with everything right away.

I check out the Cassandra thread if forums are slow and I'm in a Jerry Springer mood. In their defense, however, it really is a couple of bad apples spoiling the bunch. They're not all like that, but the bad apples have the ability to dominate the conversations. They do seem to be trying to do some more thread-policing to cut down on this so we'll see.

 

What sort of character would forgive and forget? Probably a non-human character who would follow different moral codes? Maybe qunari or dwarf? I'm trying to create my character's motivations for keeping Blackwall as a love interest. (I already had my qunari female dump Sera because in the end their personalities, beliefs, and goals were not aligned, so I'd like to avoid another dumping.) A super compassionate character? Touchy-feely? 

 

Advice very much appreciated. 

 

Not gonna lie, I romanced Blackwall with a dwarf and I almost left him at some point because I was starting to feel like Cadash was the fraud in the relationship. He was so noble-like and Cadash was this thug that just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I started to feel like he might have been in "love" with the idea of her as the Herald? I didn't get what he saw in her. However, the Cadash-specific conversation about her past really helped, that he didn't care what she used to be like. All right, cool.

 

And then cue the card game. Cadash took the option to share one of her stories and it's obvious she's talking about one of her crime sprees. Blackwall's reaction was "You should tell more stories like that!" I get that he says that to everyone, but when Revelations came around, I thought, "Dude, why didn't you just TELL ME? *thumps chest* I totally would have understood! We talked about meeeeee!"

 

Best line of the game was: "Let's start over." We could both stop being frauds. =p

Yeah I think the lack of ability to call him out on that really is what ruins it for me. I feel like I'm being walked over really and that sours the whole experience. The timing is already atrocious and I can't even call him out on this. A side chat where you got to ask him about his actual life without him being all frustrated about being in prison before taking him back would've helped significantly.

Yeah that works as justification for his lines but not a lack of my quizzy being able to go "not now." As it is I pretty much see it as my Adaar's boiling point since she can't tell him to stop she does the stay where you are bit. (I can see her as putting her Vivienne game face on XD )

As far as the kissing in the throne room goes...on the one hand, I can see why this is something you would want to deal with in private (and it would have been nice as an option for people who wanted to deal with it more quietly). On the other hand, he kind of did put his heart in your hands at that point to either throw away or to keep, and it was sort of understandable as an affirmation of a new start for me at least (albeit, a reeeeeealllllly public affirmation, heh).

@ryz: In theory, you do get to ask him about his past after the judgment, but we all know about the bug that has prevented us from getting it...although even if you do manage to use the workaround and get that specific dialogue, it's still not quite like being able to have it out with him over everything, heh. I figure you just have to pretty much headcanon that part of it (or write a story and have him apologize at some point/hash it out with him there, hah!).

Oh man, I need to have Hella tell a story in that card game scene, I didn't pick that option with her!!! I've actually only triggered it once because I tend to ignore Varric (I know, I know I love him but I get distracted) so I need to see all the variations there.

lmao. Tumblr is full of adorable babies who are like 17, and can't even legally purchase a fine aged scotch, let alone appreciate it. but the Blackwall fandom is full of cool people! Find the good ones and stick to them!

Yeah, I'm with you in not really caring about what other people think about my videogame husbando. I remember being a teenager and thinking that anyone over the age of 25 was practically elderly- I was callow and ignorant, unwittingly ageist, and a turd in general.

 

I've seen some of the comments about Blackwall on tumblr, and all I can say is that I am happy to be at my age, and am even happier that I don't feel the need to attend every argument that I am invited to.

And I agree with the age thing. It's why I haven't been able to do pranks with Sera. It just feels so ... youthful? I was young when I watched "Big" with Tom Hanks when a little boy wished to be bigger and he woke up in the body of a 30 year old man or something like that. And an older woman fell in love with him and stuff. Once it was revealed that he was actually a younger kid, he asked her to be young with him again. She declined and said, "I was 13 once." I totally get what she meant by that now.

@alialias - I feel for you. I'm quite new to Tumblr but haven't seen much Blackwall hate so far...maybe I've just been incredibly lucky up to now? There are plenty of awesome Blackwall fans on there but I know it can be something of a minefield where LIs are concerned, so I'm treading carefully!

 

I have to share this with you guys because it made my night. My friend and I ordered pizza (it had been that kind of day in work) and I forgot I was wearing my Blackwall tee when I answered the door. The delivery guy looked me up and down then timidly asked "Do...you play Dragon Age?" We ended up having a 10-minute conversation about the game and how awesome Blackwall and his arc are

(I didn't gush too much, and I decided to omit the fact that he's my fictional lumberjack husbando...I mean, I really like the pizza this place does and I didn't want to get myself blacklisted for scaring the delivery guy, lol.)

 

So there you have it - being a Blackwall fan can be a lonely endeavour at times, but sometimes you can encounter fellow enthusiasts without even trying!

I hear you there. I'm a longtime perfume nerd- I study all aspects of it, I write about it, etc- and while I am swimming in that particular pond, I come across a lot of perfume reviews from folks at all levels of interest. Calling a disliked perfume "old lady" is an insult that I see often. This bothers me a great deal, not only because it is simply not a helpful descriptor, "old" being a relative state, but because of its implications of sexual undesirability and general "out-of-touch" ness. That is the kind of ageism that rankles me.

 

But young'uns not being able to appreciate broody beardy sexy disasters? Yeah okay, more for me.

Yeah, I tried to argue with someone calling him grampa on Tumblr, but after seeing his/her reaction ("he still old fight me lmao") I decided not to waste my time. I'm 21 and I have no problem with his age. Since when is forties considered "old" anyway?! Gotta go tell my 41 year old mom (who looks 10x better than me tbh) that she's actually elderly. I do it on a daily basis tbh but that's not the point

 

To be fair though, I think he's supposed to look older than he actually is considering his bullsh*t life, lol. He looks years younger with trimmed beard however.

Gilsa, I actually love the pranks, I do them with all my characters, but I am immature for my age. which is admittedly young, I'm only 28, but on tumblr I feel like a fandom elder sometimes, hehe.
