There was a thing going around tumblr about the notion that when you get to a certain age you should bow out of fandom - and how it was all a load of crap really. The poster talked about her dad who when he discovered that his daughter liked Star Trek he dug out some old magazines of TOS he'd kept to share, it being a golden moment for them by the sounds. I'd like to be able to do that with my daughter when she's older. I can't wait to read her LOTR and the hobbit, and share my love for science and science fiction!

I've been hanging in these forums for almost 5 years now, met a lot of 'old ladies' and young ones too who are super awesome (some young guys too!) so I the sentiment that some how fandom is age restricted and should be, is as that tumblr post sentiment says is complete and utter crap.

@Ryz, I've always considered the judgement scene my least favourite part of the romance and whilst I think he is noble I wouldn't put him in the KISA territory.

And you guyz! Totally selling the dwarf romance to me!

I tried to take some quality screens from the barn scene but had a hard time staying focused (I wonder why gee), so I only managed to grab this one

Spoiler

I also finally made a spoiled porcelain doll Trevelyan "princess" for him, as I planned a long time ago. Not much origin-specific dialogue for a human, but I have headcanon. She digs this hairy lummox already, ngl.

I must admit I usually feel really young on the Internet, like I'm almost a child (well, I'm only 23, so), but when I visit tumblr it takes about two minutes for me to start feeling three times older than I actually am. Some people there... no, I don't have words for that. And I, too, fail to see how someone in their 40s is anywhere near "old".

I have to share this with you guys because it made my night. My friend and I ordered pizza (it had been that kind of day in work) and I forgot I was wearing my Blackwall tee when I answered the door. The delivery guy looked me up and down then timidly asked "Do...you play Dragon Age?" We ended up having a 10-minute conversation about the game and how awesome Blackwall and his arc are :D

Haha, it's always nice to run into fellow gamers in unexpected places. I remember discussing Mass Effect with my friend in a bus, a couple of guys were giving us really suspicious looks, then one of them finally asked: "God, you girls actually played that game? I thought girls don't play video games!". My younger brother's friends are also quite surprised to discover that his "old" sister can be spending her free time somewhere in a galaxy far, far away, slicing up sith with a lightsaber. When they see it, though, I'm immediately allowed into their boyish world, they even start acting somehow more respectful, which is quite funny.

and I forgot I was wearing my Blackwall tee

I had to stop wearing my "Save the Nug" shirt in public because I'd get concerned comments and once I explained that nugs weren't ... actually ... real ...

oh god yeah bugsie one time i read this post on tumblr that was like "haha i hope i'm not in my 30s and on tumblr talking about fictional characters, fandom is for teenagers i'm gonna grow out of this and be Someone Important someday and be mature and not have time for tv" and i was like "ok good luck with that bro you're off to a good start"

I mean I don't get mad when I was 18 I had my head up my own butt and I thought there was this clear divide between being a teenager which was fun and being an adult which was all about Being Mature and Doing Important things and also thought I was gonna Be Somebody etc, but it makes me laugh.

@credulousalloy - That pizza story is priceless! I love when you accidentally find another fan :D

My parents had me young, so when I was 15, they were 35. I didn't have a problem with the age, so much as thinking of my dad in the "hot" category. He's how old? He's my dad's age, that means... nooooo. ewwwwwwwww!

Of course, then the older I got, I was like, heh, he's kinda attractive. No wait! If he's attractive, I could date him and if I dated him... ewww, no! Then finally I reached the point of no return, when I was like, eff it,  I don't care if he's older than my dad, he's hot!

Now I have the opposite problem. That guy is hot! What, he's the same age as my little cousin? I'm so squicked out by myself right now.

I was just so happy this game to have an older love interest. Usually I make everyone a little older in my head (screw canon, my warden & Alistair mid-twenties, okay?! He was just very sheltered! lol), but this time I can just go with it as is.

I forget about ages on Tumblr until someone is like, "I am really into old men right now" and then they post pictures of guys who are 10 years younger than me :P

Ageism is a strange thing, especially because so many younger people are against all forms of -isms, but that one completely sails over their head. My dad was recently working on a missions trip (my parents are heavily into their church, I am not... gave me a great reference for roleplaying my Trev! but I digress). They were going to India, and the girl in charge was making sure they didn't offend anyone spiritually, culturally, no appropriation, no this, no that... but she just nodded and moved on from any of my dad's advice, because he was old, and couldn't know what he was talking about, since his generation was out of it. Didn't matter he was the only one with experience traveling to foreign countries or anything :P I mean, he was in his sixties! They were in their twenties! My dad said he had a good laugh when they got to India, and all the locals (even the young people) deferred to him as the elder of the group.

Then there's the flip side. So often the first argument I see against different pairings is always, "their fanbase is young". It doesn't matter what fanbase it is, the insult is always, "they must be teenage girls". Which is ageist towards teenage girls, too. Like what they like must not be worth anything.

In fact, I've heard it several times about Blackwall's romance. I'm always thinking, really?? That's the best insult you have?

In regards to the judgement scene -- I'd have loved if they used some resources to make that private. Especially if you used one of Leliana's choices (either the alternate, or the switching places one), because what good was sneaking him out, if you then judge him in front of everyone? But I can handwave it, because it's lack of resources not want of story. If only they'd cleared the hall out or something for the judgment!

As for what he says to you -- I never hold that against him. He was prepared to die, and now the fool thinks he's brought you down with him, not realizing he doesn't get to put the weight of the world on his shoulders. He doesn't get to be responsible for everything. I always took the choices that called him out on his pedestal building (like the admire line in the beginning, I always go sarcastic, not a serious thank-you type). So I wish there was one more choice than what was available, but I can deal with it. He lashes out, because he's being stupid and thinks it's another thing he's ruined. I think once he's made aware that this is not the case, he'd gruffly say he was sorry about that. Or maybe whittle you something.

Well I'm glad I found this group because a) Blackwall is sexy broody man, and B) I'm really enjoying the thoughful conversation.

I'm 32 and have always spent time with older people, my husband is 40....  I feel like at some point in my early twenties I stopped caring about anyone's age, and like feeling that way.  It is great to be friends with people of all ages!  As for gaming and age - I will never grow out of gaming since it is about imagination to me!  Just like I'll never stop reading and watching movies, etc.

...same. The worst part for me was my whole thought process: "Awww, look at these little cinna-hippos (their back patterns remind me of cinnamon roll frosting). I just need to kill one to see what the hide is good for, sorry cutie!" Like, what is wrong with me? Since when have non-hostile critters been the source of super awesome materials, golden halla aside? Then around four of them came out of the woodwork and we had to put them all down. Feels bad man.

This! So much this! It happens to me all the time. I've had to come to terms with the fact that I'm probably a middle aged woman trapped in a 22-year-old's body. It's the only explanation.

I triggered it in the Oasis. Sera asked what they were, and he told her what they were and commented that they're cute little buggers.

I also love the scenic convo between Sera and Blackwall in EDL about the big lady statues I think it triggers with Sera and several different companions? But the BW variant is amazing.

@credulousalloy -- I was wondering, did you get your Dorian quest to pop? If not, did you ever get the talk about Felix, when Dorian is reading the letter? After he talks about felix, then Mother Giselle is waiting down below. BUT. In the one I did just now, my game froze after that conversation, and when I reloaded, she was gone. I'm thinking if you don't talk to her right after the letter, she bugs? I had to reload to a previous save, do the Felix-letter scene again, and then she was back.

I think they did such a wonderful job animating the characters in this. The way your LI looks at you, there is so much emotion and expression they were able to get into their eyes. It just makes me melt. That is all.

Agreed. I was playing with the cinematic tools and looking at different angles of the barn kiss and it's so swoon worthy from all angles, his faaace

Edit: Dorian is great too, although my favorite of his is the little smile he gives if you call him brave, flops.

I was just playing the Dorian scene over and over using the different dialogue options to see which one I wanted to go with. And agreeeeeeed. That little smile. Oh my heart. It hurts.

Do you know if there are any repercussions to using the brave line, and then initiating the Dorian romance through the Giselle scene? To get the repeatable kiss to work the first time, I have to save and load, but then it works just fine. Wanted to make sure nothing else goes wonky. Guess I should be asking in the Dorian thread, lol!

Blackwall's repeatable kiss is still my number one favorite, out of the ones I've experienced myself.

I have to go to a work party dinner tonight, and I just want to stay home and play with my pixels!

Well, I just turned 47 and my husband will be 57 in March.  We're not old.  So there.  I never thought of my parents as old.  My dad just turned 70 and I still don't think he's old   I play video games just like I have ever since I was in jr. high and if young'uns wanna get all twisted up about it, it's nothing to me, lol.  I still play video/board games with my 14 year old and I ain't ever gonna stop! *dances*

This is me on tumblr: Nice pic *reblog*, Nice gif! *reblog*, HAWT Blackwall *reblog*, someone being mean, petty, rude or jerkish over whatever: LOG OUT. lol  My time on there usually lasts about 10 mins these days :(

Did Credulous get his Dorian quest to activate for him? I also have the Blackwall shirt (my son got it for me for Christmas!) and I wear it in public.  No comments yet.  I still have to break out the Cullen one   I have the N7 hoodie too.  The people at Gamestop call me Cmdr. Shepard  ;)  They're the best.

People spend WAY to much time worry about what others think and living by preconceived rules because society says you should.  Those who do the above tend to die bitter angry people, if they live that long. Because at some point they realize they where trying to live someone else life and by other peoples rules.  Heck in a lot of ways the whole idea of society being the end all be all is mental and emotional slavery. I mean as  person of a certain race and background we are expected to conform to societies rules and live your life only as these rules dictate. If you don't shop a x store, use brand x deodorant or drive x car, you are going against the rules and those who do, should look down on you because these stupid rules dictate they do so. It's your life and you only get one.Dare to be yourself and live your life.
