@Rosalee here are my thoughts:

I think he definitely feels attraction immediately - after she shows herself to be kind and just that just grows. I think he is really feeling it when he takes you to the Storm Coast but is torn over the desire to be truthful. He loses his nerve to confess but instead just gives in to his feelings - I think he's completely in love with her at this point.

After the barn or drinking moment he realizes how deeply he loves her and all the ramifications- so he bolts, he has to do right by her even if it leads to his death.

After his judgment he is 100% dedicated, completely commited. He indicates he will take her lead as to what she wants from it.

@ros: Tee-hee, man-bear, I like that one! Well, I think you can safely say that by the time of Revelations, it's absolutely, unequivocally love (because no man would do what he did for the Inquisitor if it wasn't that). However, I agree with alialias up above - around the time of Explanations/major kiss #1, he seems to have pretty much given up his heart (but yes, there's some definite lust going on there, too *cough*).

But Blackwall is the dog companion. He lives in the barn. He has sad puppy eyes and makes grunting noises. And, when he runs away you have to pick him up from the Pound. He aslo has a thing for spiked collars (Wait! that was in my fan fiction).

I feel conflicted about the beard mod. LOL on one hand I can imagine you young Thom Rainier with it, but his older self seems to suit the fuller beard quite well. It does present his facial structure/features a lot more, he looks younger, but...

I'd like a mod that brings back the grey (and the earring - rawr!)

I was working on a mod like that (hair at least, I hadn't considered the earring...hrm...I have seen people put piercings on their Quizzies, so...its def doable) when my graphics card blew out and I got too frustrated because there was no way to tell whether or not it would look good on anyone else's computer.  I keep waiting for someone else to make it though, bcuz a combination of laziness and my life being a disaster has put all my DA:I modding dreams on the backburner even though my card is finally fixed. It would actually be fairly easy to do for a competent modder, so I am imagining it will happen eventually.  Most of the people who are really involved in the modding community rn seem to be focused on Solas and Cullen, so give it time, hehe.

re: the mod - I love seeing these pictures! I really love his beard, and don't know that I'll ever change it, but it's fun to see pictures with the alternate style. Especially since it's still there in a way (as it looks like they designed it as part of his skin! lol!). Someone went through and played all of Dorian's scenes (well, most) with the no-mustache mod, and videoed them. It was interesting to watch, but I really really love Dorian's mustache.

With Blackwall & the inquisitor, I think some of it has to do with the choices you make in the dialogue wheel. I took all the hearts, starting with the first one you get when you meet him in the woods. So for me, my character had an immediate attraction, and the more they talked and flirted, the more she fell for him. Not love at first sight (my RP'd rogue doesn't believe in that) but definitely lust at first sight. My quizzie was in trouble from the first, when he lifted his shield and stopped the arrow, then proceeded to fight side by side with her to take down the bandits. I think she was embarrassed to be caught out by that arrow, she had been focused too much on the beard!

 

I think at the beginning he's intrigued -- a mixture of admiration and lust and toe-tingling flirtation. But it turns deeper fast, shown by that speech on the battlements in Skyhold. Perhaps thinking you'd died at Haven really made his feelings apparent to him. By then he knows he could fall in love with you, and wants to try and stop it before it's too late. But it's already too late, and when he takes you out to explain the truth and you find the badge instead... he's just a goner. I love taking the line when he comes to your bedroom, about knowing he couldn't stay away. In my head, they do much more than kiss that night. The barn was definitely not their first night together for my quizzie, lol!

 

As much as he loves her, I think he can't imagine a future. Not with him lying and her being the inquisitor. And as that gains and presses on him, it reaches the point where he has to do something about it when he hears of one of his men being captured.

 

Once the whole judgement thing is over, I love how he just turns into this normal guy, with the whole line about cooking eggs.

 

Definitely my favorite romance! (though I'm loving Dorian too)

Shaved down Blackwall isn't my thing tbh, find it to be heresy, but it'd be cool if someone made a slightly fuller beard mod that made him look a bit more like his age-old concept art and his romance tile.

He said this to me well before the Hayloft Incident. Hmm...

The moment Blackwall fell in love with Hella...hrm......that's hard. Because I think he fell in love with her very quickly, but it was a very messy love...because he was so wrapped up in his own self loathing, and painting her as some diametric opposite of himself, so that's complicated, because you can love someone without really seeing who they are or loving yourself (I don't like the "you can't love someone else if you don't love yourself" stuff, I mean, obviously you need to do that to have a healthy relationship, but it's completely untrue that only emotionally healthy people are capable of real love) BUUUT because it's messy, it's hard to parse out. 

 

I'm gonna go with when he came to her room after Explanations and she was just giving him so much sass while he was trying to be all broody and I think feeling that genuine affection/exasperation alongside all the longing and NOT WORTHY was probably the moment he was like " im yelling timbeeeeeerrrrr" 

 

(i genuinely think of "Timber" as the hella/blackwall song lmfao because even though he's so broody, i just played her as so oblivious and hyperactive, I even made this terrible photoset of it the other day)

It helps that it seems that I am getting more banter now - Blackwall and IB, Bull knows something's up but he can't quite tell what it is. That's a Ben Hassarath for you!

So I've gone to the Hissing Wastes early and I never fully explored that area before, so much dialogue is just falling from the sky. Finally!! Feels almost like a new game! Also more banter in general and now I'm gettin opinions from Blackwall on other companions (when I go to the barn) that I never got before! Woot!

All except Viv, she just hates me even when I don't say much to her!

So I haven’t actually gotten this dialogue from Cole yet, but I saw somebody on Tumblr quote it a while ago (forgive me, I can’t recall who it was and I forgot to Like the post) and it really stuck with me. I was originally going to use this screenshot for something else, but it seemed to fit, and I like the visual of Blackwall staring into the flames and seeing the faces that continue to haunt him.

I took that as one of Cole's meta references by referring to Darth Vader from Star Wars. The armor that doesn't fit refers to the suit that is grafted onto and into him and the old name burning lit by the faces of children he couldn't save refers to him recognizing himself as Anakin again after realizing his children whom he was told died with Padme when he did everything he did in order to save her turn out to be alive.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and the thoughts on Blackwall falling in love with Quizzy - I do agree about the barn potentially not being the first night together, especially given Cabot's comments!

 

@veeia that photoset is hilarious I'm just new to Tumblr, have thrown you a follow.

 

I do love the first part of the tavern scene where after letting out that massive sigh of his, you can accuse him of brooding, and then tell him you like the brooding look when he denies it - and the look he gives her then is just so lovely (wish I had a screeny of it) - it almost seems to say: 'I'm so in love with this woman, but because I love her I'm going to have to leave her and sort all this mess out'.

 

And Cole's other comment took me by surprise lol (may be slight paraphrasing) - "He feels naked without the armour, but now he knows you want him naked." Hmmm, so many ways to interpret that

Re: modding, I'm good with texture modding but haven't had to work with meshes so it's not like I can crack open Photoshop, whip out the Wacom, and bam. veeia - if you made any progress, let me know what you found out! It's definately an adventure. The tools are getting better and better. 

 

More later, when I'm not on my phone in a restaurant, hah. I can't stay away.
