I thought I'd take the plunge and install the patch because I figured banter, yeah?!?

No. Almost 2 hours playing in the Hissing Wastes, not a single party banter, and only a couple of comments from my party. :: tears hair out ::

Also, in the world of the great grey beard quest, I accidentally gave Blackwall purple streaked hair earlier. Doh.

Oh insult to injury. There's a spot in the Hissing Wastes near one of the camps where gurn hide randomly drops; it looks like the hunters nearby are killing it, but the loot drops at your feet, doh.

So, I figured, well, I'll stand there for 10 minutes and go get ready for bed. But i'll run video just in case anyone talks.

Checked the video. Varric and Blackwall were talking jousting. After I walk away. Wut!

....but aw. Varric called him "hero". AW VARRIC.

I am paranoid my companions are going to have conversations as soon as I walk away from the computer. I'm always either turning the volume up loud, or triple checking that yes I paused the game, because noooo i can't miss banter!

 

I still haven't heard the jousting conversation. That is so d'aww Varric calls him a hero.

Oh no! I haven't noticed any change re: banter, but I also am still not entirely sure if I have the patch installed because my old mods are still working and I don't have the walk toggle etc. I spent like 3 hours today working on modeling outfit things for when mesh import is a go though, so I'm too brain leaking out my ears at this point to figure that out right now. 

 

PURPLE BEARD. In game??? I read through your post earlier and nodded in that way of "well the words you're saying making sense but I have nothing to add to this because I don't understand how on earth we would do any of that at this point." I need tools made for me, hehe. I've done a lot of modding, but it was all with TES and we had fancy things so I could just focus on scripting and whatnot. This is all very ?? to me. Exciting! Because it's fun to learn, but...mostly ???  Did you use the color changing mod, or the save editor thing to do that? I haven't played with either of those yet.

Well, played earlier after the patch and traveled via the war table as usual. Got some banter between Cole and Cassandra about Regalyan, so it doesn't seem any worse than before at least. Cullen is still MIA, but I am okay with that as long as he does all the war table missions I send him on. More testing with Blackwall and other peeps tomorrow...as long as Cass finally coughs up that interactive banter again.

I actually did have it pop up again yesterday, but I was busy writing it down and forgot to actually make a choice when it came time...oops (the good thing is that I wrote most of it down - although next time, I'll just screenshot everything and transcribe it later...). I ended up reloading and doing the whole dragon fight (the Storm Coast dragon) again so that I'd have yet another shot at the interactive Blackwall-Cass banter, but as per usual, I get the feeling it might be a while until it triggers again.

It means your patch did NOT installed correctly. Well, it did install, but the game is using another folder instead of that one where the patch is. I believe you have to remove "Merged" folder to make the patch work, but it will also remove all your mods. I'm currently waiting for mod updates because I don't want my Quizzie to lose her eyebrows... And after the previous patch I figured it might be safer to wait and see if this one, too, brought any new issues along with fixing the old ones. Like, you know, extra shiny hair on highest settings, aged Hawkes, etc

I think my patch didn't take either as I still have trimmed beard Blackwall. I really hope the banter improves.

If you're unsure about whether or not the patch is installed, just enter tactical cam and switch character. The camera won't move if the patch is active.

I've been working in modeling tools to see how the textures lay; I haven't shoved anything in game yet as I don't think there's a way to add a completely new texture, which is what I think this will need. What I had done was take the base hair texture and colored it with a different color on each piece, then loaded it up to see which pieces of the base hair texture were used where. There's a lot of crazy layering going on, which makes the textures lay on the mesh in a way I hadn't planned.

Ideally, I would like to make a new texture that's an overlay, make that the gray hair layer, and plop it over the others, but I suspect it would become funky due to the way the whole thing is constructed. And I have no idea yet how exactly the game attaches textures to things, if I can have two textures, if I need a single modified custom texture that covers all of the hair, ect. I was doing all this while sitting around waiting for my husband to get off work, so all I had was the base assets and whatever free tools I could cram onto my Surface Pro 3. Super crude but for experimenting, it works.

@smiles: Well, if nothing else, at least you can maybe hear Blackwall's stories about Wilfred...maybe the one about hallucinatory nugs will make up for it - lol.

I spent about an hour in Hinterlands, changed my party once, got two banters. Doesn't look like an improvement to me, but I've never had the banter bug to begin with. Even if this patch didn't really make banters trigger more often, I hope it at least fixed the banter bug for those who experienced it.

I see, thanks.  I'm only familiar with ES modding, so my mind works in .nifs and .dds only. Time to update, I think.

Nods! Well the texture editing is with .dds!

 

Kind of annoyed about the .psk tbh. I can't find a reliable way to import them into Blender, so I'm having to learn 3DSMax. Not that I was ever that great with Blender but I had worked with it enough to at least get the interface down.  At least 3DSMax is free if you lie to them and say you're a student you're a student.

I love that line. If I ever get a new cpu that can run good video while the game is playing, I'm going to catch it and then probably replay it a million times like a crazy person. yes, I could watch it on other people's videos, but it's not the same!

 

Also, I'm addicted to looking through my screenshots. Sometimes I'll be like... I'll just look at this one image.... .... .... *2 hours later* ... what have I done?? I wasted the whole evening looking at these! Well, I might as well look some more now...

What happens when you try to record video with your current setup? Stuttering?

I actually haven't even tried to record anything beyond that scene I did for y'all and that was in windowed mode on the lowest settings. I mean I have a different set up, but now I'm curious and also thinking of all the terrible fanvids I could make, possibly to Like a Virgin.

The hissing wastes is my favorite place.  I can't wait to find out what drove the dwarves to the surface.  I think it's a glimpse of the story we have to look forward to.

 

I'm still downloading games to my comp but I started a new girl in DA:I last night so I could see if stuff was working after the patch.  When I get far enough in to find out, I'll be back to let you know and either cheer or cry

 

I'm going to try to get some of my pics back on here sometime today so I can share Blackwall goodness.  I have something called shadowplay on my video card now that my son tells me is fantastic and showed me how to work last night so I might test that out as well with Blackwall.

 

I made a female elf for Solas.  I hope I can make it through the game with him so I can see the story.  But....Blackwall.  And...Cullen.  So many menz!!

It's beautiful in the Hissing Wastes, right? All moonlit dunes and distant fires, and I have good banter luck there.
 I can't wait to see your screenshots of Beardlord, too. ( I wanted to like your post, but I'm outta likes. )
