English is my third language, but I find it easier than my second language (Estonian) and sometimes easier than my mother tongue (Russian). I've always been better at speaking English than writing in it, though I feel like my skills have been reclining a bit since I finished high school. I feel like I'm having a harder time to find the right words, make my text coherent etc. Still, if I ever get around to writing some fanfics, it will most likely be in English. I'd need a very patient beta though ![]()
Ah, well I took a screenshot of the relevant portion of the his journal and can now plop it right here for you:
-snip-
I guess in Orlais mages could be allowed to fight, given the existence of battlemage armor - which means that it could be about the real Gordian who we encounter in the Exalted Plains...still seems a bit odd to me, though.
Well, shows how much I care for the lore if I can't be arsed to read any of the endless codices I stumble upon
I'm pretty sure I've gotten this at some point, but I definitely haven't read through it. And aren't the Knight Enchanters legit members of the military though?

He's normally so camera shy that I just had to take a picture, lol. I guess even he likes to be in the spotlight every once in a while!
Also caught this shot of my favourite men. They're still in their "very much NOT playing nice" phase in this playthrough, so I'm assuming Maxwell's just interrupted their squabbling. (Please excuse the clashing colours in Dorian's outfit...I didn't have anything else to use for his gloves and belt. The shame is real. Cassandra is making disgusted noises out of shot.)

EDIT: Also, I love that Orlesian armour on Blackwall (mmm, delicious irony), but it totally makes him look like he's wearing a bra in that shot. WTF?

Yeah, KEs like Vivienne and Commander Helaine are two examples, but I'm not too sure how common they are. I looked up the Way of the Knight-Enchanter (entry #71 under History in the codex), and from the excerpt(s) in there, it absolutely sounds like other mages could and did serve in the military. In any case, it was at least slightly funny that I was the KE and Gordian was just a frost mage.
My thoughts during the fight amounted to: "Dear frost mage, your ice mine kind of tickled for a moment - how cute! Now please just hold still while I use Fade Cloak and Spirit Blade to take you out - promise to make it quick!"

I've been reading and kept meaning to comment but just finally got to it.
I'm loving the food thoughts, Blackwall in plaidweave, people living on the West Coast (I'm in CA!) or anywhere else
@Xetykins definitely try writing - its fun! You can post anonymously
. I wrote a little story on AO3 and felt super embarrassed afterward because I haven't written in years (no excuse I was an English major in college) but someone actually asked for a second chapter so I'm finishing it up.
Senseandaccountability's stories are great, so well done.

Here in my country when I was young English was not taught at school and movies are always dubbed, the internet was far to come and I remember I had to tape the 'film O series' at night (movies in original version) that were serialized once a week. I learned 'The Empire strikes back' dialogues by heart, then Witness, still two of my two fav movies ever ![]()
Then videogames and the internet happened and it's all so much easier now, sadly my brain is less receptive and I keep making the same mistakes over and over and over

Ah, Harrison Ford.
Admittedly, my top favorite Harrison Ford movies include Bladerunner and the Indiana Jones movies, but I would also put Witness up near the top.

Harrison Ford...
I fell in love with him when I was ten years old with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and his movies are still all in my top twenty.

The other day my youngest daughter asked me if I had to choose between Blackwall and Alistair who would I pick. I told her I would throw myself off the house first. She said okay, what about Blackwall, Alistair and Harrison Ford and I told her that was a no brainer - Harrison Ford.
My oldest daughter sent me pictures of wax Indiana Jones when she went. Was pretty great. I told her I would kiss him. She laughed because she said she told her friends I would say that, lol.
Okay, I seriously should be in bed. I'll talk to you lovelies tomorrow! ![]()

@Kaidanfan: Same here, I made an elf for Cullen but she's currently romancing Blackwall (suspended run waiting for the Cole's amulet bug fix).
I just can't stay away from him and I feel the primeval need to make him happy. Cullen is hard to reject though, but I can do it. Reject Blackwall? Ask me to do anything else but not that
Ok deal, you take Harry I take Thom ;D

I still have a scrapbook from my early teen years... filled mostly with Harrison Ford, Michael Hutchence and Bono pictures. I was always on the Han Solo train, and Raiders of the lost ark I think I've seen at least 50 times (admittedly most of those times between the ages of 12 and 14!)

Ahhh! I missed Harrison Ford talk??!!
I would totally be this girl:

At college I lived in a house with about 7 other people, girls & guys. One night we had a Star Wars marathon, and as Harrison Ford grinned and Han Solo made us collectively sigh, one of my roommates exclaimed, "Han Solo makes my panties moist."
After everyone finished cackling with agreement (even the guys!), another roommate grabbed a poster, stapled it to the wall, and wrote the quote in big letters across the top. Thus began our quote wall, with random things that were either too funny to forget or too true to go undocumented. The Han Solo quote being both, of course. Also the only thing every person who walked through the door agreed on! It became the motto of our house.
I know he's the reason I have such a thing for scoundrels
I wouldn't be able to tell you how many times I've seen Bladerunner, the Star Wars movies & the Indiana Jones movies. Also, probably the reason I have a screenshot from my playthrough in SWTOR as my desktop, with my own Millennium Falcon rising up from an icy planet.

Definitely racier than the final version that ended up in the film (fair warning that you probably don't want to watch it at work or anything, although I don't think it quite goes R-rated).

@Atreiya: Unnnnffff. I love Bladerunner. When the director's cut came out, a friend and I watched both versions back to back. It was a fun night.
Sigh. I didn't get anything done in the game tonight. Instead I played with mods and the free camera.
First I did some spying:
Then I took a closer look during cutscenes. I want to tug the beard. It's just crying out for some tugging.
Finally I moved on to trying out mods. Finn has new pajamas -- not made by me, because I still haven't downloaded one of the programs to make it work, but I like them anyway!
I spent way too long using the free camera tool to look at cutscenes. I also found out that shadowplay on my nvidia card doesn't slow my scenes to a crawl when it records. So I can take video again. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. I have a feeling my hard drive is going to fill up with images of Blackwall & Dorian before long! It might take a very long time to ever get to the Solas and Cullen romances, at this rate. Sera has been started, so she's safe at least!

One thing I never understood about Blackwall is, How does a Free Marcher come to be a captain within the Orlesian Millitary?
#11948
Posté 27 janvier 2015 - 02:23
I doubt the fact he was from the Free Marches made much of a difference. I don't imagine Orlais has strict rules about citizenship. You can even join the US Armed Forces with just a green card/temporary citizenship, and I'm sure it's more stringent here than Orlais would be.
If you mean, how did he rise to Captain -- He was very skilled (he won the grand tourney w/the help of that Chevalier), he was a good leader, and well-loved by the men. He didn't join as a Captain, he rose through the ranks.
As to why he joined -- after he won the grand tourney within a few years he'd lost all his winnings, and I'd guess he had to find a job. Since he was good at fighting and wanted money, the Orlesian Army probably seemed like as good a place as any. Maybe he thought of the chevalier that once helped him, or maybe it was that the large standing army made it better than any of the little independent places in the Free Marches to get work & money.
