Hey, am I the only one who romanced Kaidan only in ME1 and only because he was the only option available and then ... Garrus?    

No offense but Kaidan was too well-groomed and in ME3 his continuous 'I don't trust you Shepard what are you doing with Cerberus gnagnagna' makes me want to smash my shotgun on his teeth every time. I'm always happy to cause him a headache 

Garrus has always been by my side also when Cerberus. Good bye Alenko, enjoy your headaches

Blackwall also looks hot when using grappling chain when upgraded... he is also kicking things... I must admit though that DAO's shield bash stays my all time favourite swoon worthy animation, always zoomed in when Alistair was using it

Well, I had a full paragon that romanced Kaidan in ME, remained loyal in ME2 and got back together in ME3... but she is full paragon and I actually did a playthrough with her where she jumped Garrus bones first but... I though the weren't a good match so I created another Shepard just for Garrus

I matched my paragon, my paragade and my renegon Sheps with Garrus, they were all happy Sheps

Garrus is chaotic good, like me, Kaidan is lawful good and imho he often lacks a flexible mind <.<

I prefer Blackwall romance to Alistair just because Alistair is a babby. Like literally, he's what, 19? But he sure is a cutiepie babby and since the Warden is a babby too it's so cute. Until the part where I exile him, that's sad.

And yup, no drunk Alistair. That and Arky were the two things I really wanted to see carry over to Inquisition.

I played a renegade and started to find Alenko a little on the too-nice-guy side. The ME1 romance was fine. Didn't rock my socks, but it was fine. And then ME2 came out and I read that the Virmire survivor was going to be limited to cameo-only. I thought what the heck, I didn't want to play a game without romance and then wait another two years just to watch that romance pick back up. Forget it. Garrus was right on top of my list. I dug him. He was awesome. And then Horizon happened. That really knocked my socks off. He not only stood up to her, he was mad. He yelled because he cared. His heart was on his sleeve. And he wouldn't be a yes-man and follow her down that rabbit hole. He stuck with his principles. I respected that. I admired that. I know that whole thing was one plot hammer, but I loved it. That follow-up letter sealed the deal. I was perfectly happy to wait. No complaints whatsoever. And the way they reconciled in ME3 was beautifully executed. The tense moment with guns drawn on each other, the waiting by the elevator, the will-they-or-won't-they build up. I continued to be a renegade and found Kaidan to be a fantastic paragon balance, the yin to her yang. The renegade lines worked well in the romance. It felt like he just smirked at the hard-ass attitude like that wasn't going to faze him at all. It was great.

 

I consider Garrus to be the iconic boyfriend of the series. He's great. I'm envious of the dance scene in the end. I do have a Shepard that romanced him, but Garrus was the best thing about that playthrough as I found that particular Shepard to be boring (played as 100% paragon to get different lines, even got laughed at by Jack for it =p). I liked that Kaidan and Shepard went through fire and came out stronger for it. Blackwall and the Inquisitor have a similar path where their relationship got tested and hopefully got stronger for it (we don't really see much after Revelations so this mainly relies on head canon territory).

 

I'd say Garrus is the guy I'd have a beer with after work, but Kaidan is the man I go home to. But yeah, it was this close before Horizon happened.

 

(And I really, really liked the Jacob romance. I was really looking forward to their reunion in ME3, probably more than Kaidan and Garrus. Different writer though. ME3 Jacob is from an alternate universe. I can't even be mad at him because that isn't him. It just isn't.)

So pure curiousity, because I'm a perv like this... Does Blackwall get a sex scene or a fade to black?

I'm playing ME2 right now for the first time.  I'm digging Garrus so far but I haven't really had any romantic scenes yet.  I have to admit compared to DA I'm missing more romance content.  Overall the game is great, though.

 

Aaaand I just spent the last 15 minutes looking for LoTR gifs.

Jacob is way more interesting on the romance path than he is on the platonic level. He will even break up with Shepard if she keeps trying to motherhen and "fix" any emotional issues she might want to project onto him. Jacob is very into Shepard while still being his own person. That "the priiiize" line is mostly overblown by the fandom and his writer (Lukas K, who also wrote Aveline in DA2 and Sera in DA3) accepted that he dropped the ball a few times. Lukas K wasn't asked to be on the writing team for ME3 so whatever happened after ME2 isn't on him.

 

Some people can't get past the come-hither animations Shepard has when talking to Jacob so it's gets harder for him to get a chance. Some think he's hung up on Miranda (he isn't -- the "she requires a better man than I" is also misunderstood when it's supposed to mean that it's a nice way of saying "she's too high maintenance") so there's that, too.

If I have a OTP its Garrus/Shep. I initially went through ME1 with no romance. ME2 was Jacob until I found out Garrus was a romance (wasnt on the forums prior to ME2). I can certainly understand people liking Jacob but his romance turned into a complete train wreck. Unfortunate.

As for DA Alistair/Zev for my heroes. Da2 I romanced Anders, Isabella and one pt was Merril. Never done any other romances in DA pretty much done all the romances in ME except Ashley's and Steve's mainly because I never got round to more than a few dude Sheps.

@gilsa: yes yes and yes about Kaidan. It was the horizon part that sealed the deal for me too. I loved that he was pissed. I had no problem waiting, though I do admit to picking the romance options and reloading with other characters, just to see. I could never get into Jacob, but I loved Thane and Garrus.

 

@captivating: Sadly, fade to black. You do get some sexy boots walking backward, and it shows a quick shot of kissing on the hay bale, but that's about it.

@captivating: Yeah, the only place you'll ever see his (apparently) glorious body is the romance tarot because we get fade to black in the romance scene. On the plus side, it gives you something to look at during party selection...
