I'd played Awakenings as soon as it came out, and was crazy about Anders from the start. I used to write fanfic in the DAO-Anders thread, before DA2 came out, and was in the middle of a 70K word story when we found out what was going to happen in DA2. It totally put the damper on my drive to write, since I'd been so careful not to stray into AU territory. DA2 changed all that, making it completely AU.

 

It didn't lesson my love for Anders, but I did have to take a moment to get over things, like Greg Ellis no longer being his voice and the whole Justice thing and change in personality. I was totally okay with the change, once I got over the initial bit, because characters do have to change and grow. And, love interest! Finally! I really wanted to romance him in Awakenings. It was just a shock. Like if we came back for DA4, and Cole had become part of Blackwall, and now had a different voice actor. Obviously, not exactly the same, since this is a bigger role, but still, I had to take a moment to adapt

 

Although, come to think of it, they are sort of doing it again. They had the whole Solas/Flemeth/Mythal thing!

 

The Anders thread was fun though, even with the controversy that came. Lots of amazing art.

There are a lot of 'ifs' surrounding why I think Blackwall isn't liked that much.  If only he looked like Cullen, if only he was a real grey warden, if only Callier's children hadn't been there, if only he wasn't so old, if only he wasn't so beardy, if only Gaspard suceeded the throne earlier etc etc etc but meh, that's not how he was written.  I'm pretty happy to deal with my big beardy mess of a husbando as he is!

Yeah that thread is frustrating. Honestly I find it so ridiculous especially if they are ok with Zevran, Leliana, etc.

Redemption is a good thing.

I also was thinking of it was tried (love the Annalise idea!) he would just be guilty of accessory or conspiracy of murder? I think people are just harsh because they feel betrayed by the lies or they just didn't like his character to begin with. I think the romance adds so much to his story.

Oblivious to this thread, haha. I'm hyper focusing on modding so I can only handle one BSN thread right now and the Sera thread (my other hangout) moves too fast. But I think I should avoid it anyway. My friend (not a Blackwall fan but a cool person) made some negative comment about the dog scene and I was like OH GOD I CANT EVEN TALK ABOUT THIS IM SORRY because it got me all riled up thinking about other things people have said and my friend doesn't deserve to be a dumping ground for my frustrations, lmao.

I prefer to stick to fan threads, they tend to be more positive. Or threads that have no real agenda, like the modding & character creation threads. Otherwise I end up making all these rebuttal arguments in my head, and getting all riled up, and wasting hours thinking about it, instead of doing something enjoyable.

 

I like who I like, whether or not others agree, and I love Blackwall. (And Dorian, too, but that's another thread, lol)

 

Plus, this thread has all the awesome people to talk to!

I only visit bad threads if I'm in the mood to either type out long detailed rebuttals to low effort posts (rare but it does happen and sometimes leads to good convos!) OR if the thread has gotten so bad it's time to start posting about DILF Loghain.

I do have all kinds of headcanons about DILF Loghain and Blackwall tho, thanks to this thread, so page me if it reaches that point.

This game has only been out for a few months. I have seen people up in arms about that Loghain mellow with time and start seeing layers that weren't there before. They still talk about him years later. Blackwall has that kind of staying power because he evokes emotions in people.

So after pouting all day I finally did it. I dumped Blackwall so I could be with Solas.  Let's just say, that will never, ever, ever happen again.  In fact I made a save before and after in case I change my mind again, lol.  To be on the safe side I dug up my baby Kaia that I made for Blackwall and started her into flirting with him so I could hopefully have some more....resolve. ba dum tish!  Yeah, yeah, I'm lame

I dumped Blackwall for Solas and I really regretted doing it early because Solas has nooooooooooo content for most of the middle of the game, lmao. If only you could like...like Blackwall, dance with Solas and Blackwall at Wicked Hearts and then dump Blackwall and date only Solas...or something...

 

...I'm a monster I know, but you get lonely when you're dating Solas. And you think about how Blackwall is right there, with his barn kisses and his cutscenes and his special romance dialogues and youre like whyyyyyy..

 

(I do recommend doing the Solasmance! There's just a reaaaaaaallllly long dry spell, lmao, and he has no "kiss" scene and barely any romance specific dialogue at big plots. You do get to dance with him at the ball though! And what's there is meaty in that "tear our your heart" way, lmao)

I want to do a Cullenmance pro templar/pro circle playthrough, but I've tried to create a Trevelyan 3 times now and they either look like everyone else, or some hideous freak with too much make up.  *sigh*

Aaaaand I went back in there - again - geez, I could have spent the last 30 minutes kissing Blackwall in the barn or reloading that first kiss (or earlier flirts) or otherwise doing something far more productive with my life (like leveling my arcane warrior back up after I promoted him)!!!!!! *headdesk*

 

EDIT: Oh right - I guess I should get that achievement now that I have drunk from the Well of Sorrow and am officially Mythal's b---- for the rest of my current playthrough (the things I do for you and your dialogue, Blackwall...).

You know, I didn't even notice if he approved or disapproved this time - I was just a bit unobservant last night, I'm afraid. All I can say is that I don't remember seeing a disapproval hit from him. I do remember seeing a "Solas disapproves," though.

Accoding to the guide book, he approves of the Inquisitor drinking from the Well if he's not romanced. I guess distrust of Morrigan outweighs concern for the Inquisitor's health if he's not banging her .

 

(The guide book may be full of it, of course. I haven't actually tested this myself, since I haven't gotten around to drinking from the Well. Some day, when I make a Dalish mage and romance Solas ...)

Bugsie I have also had a problem making a lady Trev I like. Not sure what it is, because I've certainly seen cute and unique ones, but I keep going "blegh" or NOOO when I make one. But I have a female char of every other race (and three dwarves and two elves!) so I'd like to have a human one, even if I don't finish the game with her. Maybe I just need to come up with a better character concept before I try so I'm not as aimless in the CC.

I did the Cullenmance with a super cute Mage Lavellan tho, and I loved it because of all the awkward Mage and Dalish specific dialogues, lmao

@sabreenei: I wrote many times that we know nothing about the 'real' Blackwall and he could have been a murderer in his past, as far as we know

 

@ veeia: are you a modder? Are you able to make also Dahlia Lynn's style mods like the first night with Alistair and such? *__*

Haha I do mod as in I have a lot of experience doing quest script and level design modding for TES (I hardcore RPed in that game and built myself custom quests and areas for the story I was doing haha) which is not useful here at all so I'm learning how to do more serious texture editing and hopefully mesh later but.....no unfortunately, not able to do that.

I mean given the right tools I could probably learn to do something like that? I do know basic animating and my husband is a professional animator, so in theory it's not out of the realm of possibility , if I applied myself enough, but I'm not even trying for something like that right now with this game. The people writing the mod tools still don't even know how the animation files in the game work....and even if that stuff is figured out. It's gonna be probably beyond my skill level.

That's a long way of saying "well I do have my eye on that because if they do figure out how to import custom animations and no one does Solas/dwarf then I will have to find a way because of reasons but really, no"

How cool would it be if they developed a full mod kit for the game though. We could make so many of those side quests they didn't have time to flesh out more interesting and involved. And I mean, also more involved make out scenes with our husbandos/waifus.

@veeia: Yes, I remember Bioware told that it would have been very difficult to make mods for DA:I and that they were not going to release a toolset

 

Ok, no Blackwall sex scene then, and for sex scene I mean this 

 

and not what we see (or better we don't see) in the Blackwall's one.

 

I hate prudes, if they feel uncomfortable with sex why don't they just avoid triggering sex scenes instead of forcing the authors to deprive all the other fans of what they want to see?

The DAO toolset was so wonderful, it made things so much easier to mod. Dahlia's mod was fun. When she first began she used my elf save game to test as the elf-tester, and it was so much fun to watch as she worked on it.

 

People are really awesome and making progress on this engine though. Given how hard it is to mod and how there were so many articles saying it was unmoddable, I'm just really impressed with everyone.

 

I have a Trevelyan mage for Cullen. For full angst story I have it on a world state with an Amell that flirted with Cullen, and then chose the option with Josie to say that my mage had a crush on a templar back at the circle. She's still in Haven, since I decided to re-do my templar/mage choice. Also, I have Dorian and Sera to do first. She keeps flirting with Blackwall, the hussy. I like her, though it took me awhile to get a look that felt right.  I still think about remaking her. Every time I try, she's never as good as the original. I might just be stuck with her.

 

The character creation thread is great to look at, when designing characters. At least for me. It gives me an idea of what is possible, of what I like and don't like, and helps me to crystallize an idea of who it is I want to create (and who I don't!).

Finally worked out what was going on and now I have no blur!!! YAY!!!  I noticed that the program has a bit of a fit if you mess with the settings before it's fully ready to go, which is what I had been doing.  It looks like it's sorted now and all it required was a bit of patience on my part.
