I think has to look lean in the non-custom type armor, since those all use the same body models.
As a sword and shield warrior, I'd say he'd need lots of muscles to wield all that steel. I like to think of him as more real -- so he'd have these big muscles in his arms and chest from all his training & fighting, but not necessarily the sculpted look of actors who spend all day working out to look good on film.
His working out would consist of training with the sword & shield, and real fights. And he's a bit older, so he wouldn't have the 5% body fat look they have. More like a man's man look. Or like, Hugh Jackman / Gerald Butler when they arent in their hard core training.
Of course, I love that look of heavily muscled, but with a warm layer of fur at the belly. Tells you he isn't obsessing over keeping a perfectly flat belly, and will eat food and not care so much about diet and regime.
So really, it's all personal head canon, and Blackwall can be every way to every one!
Like this?

So all the talk in the other thread has me thinking. Do we have a good timeline for Blackwall yet? We know the last time the real Blackwall was seen was about 5 years-ish or so ago? I'm guessing that's about the time he died and Rainier/Blackwall took his place. We know Rainier was wandering for some time before that, but I'm not sure just how long. Did we ever get a time?
He makes that remark about being in Ferelden during the blight, which we know the real Blackwall was not. I'm wondering if it was a complete fib, and he was still in the military at that time, or if he was perhaps somewhere in Ferelden when it was all going down. Damn darkspawn, interfering with the flow of his wine! ![]()
I don't know my Orlesian history too much, but I'm guessing Gaspard has been fighting against her ever since she took the crown, so that doesn't help me put a time to it.

Leliana's report on Thom Rainier says that Callies were murdered in 9.37. I also recall some other codex entry that states those events took place in 9.38. Don't know if it's a mistake, but anyway, Rainier has been on the run for three or four years by now. No idea which year he met Blackwall though.

I was just looking it up too! ![]()
So far it looks like, at 18 years old he won the melee at the Grand Tourney.
At about 20, he turned up again, but had lost his money. He used his fame from the tourney to get in with the Army.
He works his way up the ranks of the military.
time passes
9:30 - Dragon Age Origins, Alistair & HoF
9:31 - Battle of Denerim
9:34 - First battle of Kirkwall w/Arishok
A chevalier approaches Rainier and offers a great deal of money to ambush Callier.
9:35 Dragon - Callier and his family were ambused and killed.
9:37 Dragon - The last time the real Blackwall is seen, at Val Chevin.
Also 9:37, Anders blows up the chantry.
9:41 - the Conclave

I'm not sure of the timing, but given Blackwall's (the real one) status in Orlais, is it possible he actually knew who he was recruiting when he met Thom Rainier? (Ie he knew it was the fugitive Thom Rainier he had come across in the tavern and hence the offer of conscription)

9:35 Dragon - Callier and his family were ambused and killed.
Only it was 9.37/38, again. The codex is pretty clear on that. I'd provide a screenshot, but I'm playing a non-English version of the game.

It is possible, but let's not forget we are speaking about "Middle Ages" here, and the only way to recognise Rainier for Blackwall was to know him personally or to have seen a really good "Wanted!" portrait. If Rainier had already grown the beard by that point...
I suppouse we'll never know.

Dang, I'm going to head canon that Blackwall knew who he was recruiting!
Maybe I should dig my twitter account out and ask Sheryl.

@clover: I noticed the discrepancy between the dates when we got the report - I think it's an error and that this did take place six years ago because of what it says about when the Calliers left for their summer villa.
Current date in DA:I (the Conclave specifically: 9:41
Date the Calliers left for their summer villa and were killed (from the codex): 9:35 (and it specifically said that it was spring of that year)
Date on Leliana's report on when the Calliers were killed (conflicts with the codex entry): 9:37
Oh, and last-known sighting of the real Blackwall: 9:37
Got screenshots, will put them up in a few minutes...
First the codex entry stating that it was 9:35:
Next the note from Leliana right after Blackwall leaves stating that it took place in 9:37 (which has to be wrong);
And as for the real Blackwall's final sighting in 9:37:

I wonder if they changed their minds on the time. I'm finding codex's from the wiki that say 9:35. I haven't checked the one in my game, I'll have to load it up and look.

@scuttlebutt: Thanks for the source!! That totally helps. They should probably fix that, lol. I guess it's not too high in the importance list for bugs.

@scuttle: Yep, thanks - that definitively settles it! Now I can stick to saying six years and not worry about being inaccurate, lol.

I wonder if they'll ever fix his post-Revelations dialogue bug. Just want to know if I should keep my main quizzy suspended until they fix it or just move on.
