yeah because apparently we all have rose colored glasses.  With all the glossing over of crimes commited by companions in these games I don't think we are the ones wearing rose colored glasses.

@alialias: I would say, yes, I'm forgiving and understanding and patient and all of that crap. Sigh. Sometimes I wish I wasn't! It's actually one of the reasons I enjoy killing things in games so much and playing smartass assassin rogues. Die, die, die!!! Stab you in the back! Cut your head off! Wheeeeeee!! What?

 

irl, I'm the Switzerland, or the Picard. The moderator who hears both sides and endevors to settle things peacefully amongst friends and family, bringing them a bit closer to seeing one another's side. I know sometimes it's frustrating (for me and them) because sometimes people just want you to be like, "yeahhhh that person sucks! eff them!!" When I'm usually all, "now, if you look at it from his point of view..." uuughghhhghhhhh.

 

I actually have no problem with people not liking Blackwall, because sometimes you just don't like a character, and that's fine with me. What I don't like are incorrect facts, or statements that are meant just to incite, or have no basis in reality (of the game). I'm not really a big debator, though. Especially since my role is usally the moderator!

I'm not a huge fan of the judgement kiss but I don't think it is THAT BAD.  I mean... its not like he is full on making out with her.  I think he just couldn't wait.  I can understand that feeling. 

 

I'm curious if most of you consider yourself forgiving.  I am very forgiving, maybe too much so sometimes but I feel like life is too short.  I also have experienced ups and downs in life and know that planned noble actions vs reality do not always mesh.  I mean Blackwall got caught up in a romance because he was a human, but yeah he tired very hard to avoid it.  

I guess people who see the world in black and white will never like Blackwall.  I'm glad I can enjoy his romance despite his flaws, it is more realistic.  I don't mean to pick on Cullen -his romance is very sweet- but the dude does have some issues that probably need attention, I think his lyrium issues were not portrayed as seriously as they probably should have been (especially for someone romancing him).

I'm not comfortable with deducing a person's beliefs from their video game alter ego's behavior, but I can get on board with the "more realistic" assertion. Blackwall is one of the only LIs to have meaningful, consequential flaws, and the author of the character doesn't downplay them for our comfort. By comparison, the other LIs flaws are soft-pedaled, in my opinion, unto near meaninglessness.

I'm starting to hate the other thread for sucking up over two hours of my life today when I should be getting a bit of work done.

 

Regarding the kiss at the end of the judgment, like I just pointed out in that thread, you're already in public and everyone has heard every single thing you've said to each other, so at that point I don't think the kiss is really that big of a deal (even if it is a bit embarrassing). Everyone watching knows what's going on by the end of the judgment, and if they don't know, then either Blackwall and the Inquisitor were whispering the whole time or the acoustics in the great hall are horrible; however, I think the acoustics are probably pretty good.

 

I'm starting to think that it's just an affirmation of a new (and honest) start to things and that maybe he isn't ashamed of this one thing in his life at the very least - though I absolutely believe that an option for something more private would have been nice. I totally get the embarrassment factor (seeing as I was like "omg, right in front of everyone?!" at first).

I would have been fine with a simple meaningful gesture, like a touch of hands or even leaving it at touching his face.

The kiss took it over the line for me for that particular PC and sort felt at odds with how I approached the romance, judgement and after affects of revelations.

Touching his face would've been nice. And then a scene where you can talk to him in the barn, hash things over, and have *that* end with a make-out kiss. I'm just for more and longer kisses, obvi.

@gilsa: That outfit & all her work is fabulous! I downloaded the elf ones, even though I don't have any elfs yet. I posted about it late last night, but now it's a few pages back, and I realized I'd put it all under a spoiler tag. I was sleepy, lol. The detailing is amazing. The necklace  is a metal material, and changes look depending on the light.

 

 

I TOTALLY MISSED THAT!! Thanks for not being irate with me for stepping on your toes. You'd think I'd see it since I'm closer to the ground, but I'm always looking to the sky when I walk around though. =p

 

That is such a classy look. I love it. A friend of mine offered to download a mod and try it make it dwarvish for me and asked me what changes to make. My mind went blank. "Um, copy Varric's outfit? Cut up the dwarven banners and run around like the von Trapp children? I don't know?" So I'm curious to see that interpretation. I'm positive I'll slap my forehead when i see it.

Oooh, I can't wait to see what your friend comes up with. There's a recolor-type mod for dwarves on nexus, but I'd love something like this, but dwarven style. Or veeia's red plaid one I saw, because that was pretty darn awesome too.

Sorry if I'm coming off as negative in the other thread. You know that I love him. 

 

I think he does deserve the backlash for that scene, he's the one who's bringing up their personal relationship in front of everyone. And it's too bad that you're forced to pick between going the super cheesy route or dumping his ass. Sure, making out with him in chains may be in character for some Inquisitors but it's  completely out of character for others. But as I said, I laugh at it. It's entertaining in all its cheesy telenovela glory.

No no, heaven's no. There was nothing at all wrong with your question, and I am sorry if I sounded sniffy and judgy! I think that I'm experiencing some wear and tear from the incessant "You like Blackwall therefore you eat puppies/are a real life bad citizen" thing that was going on in the other thread.

@veeia -- I checked out paragon statues, the noble outfits dwarves wore in DAO, the dwarven banners and beds, and so on. The one thing that I noticed was how geometric their art was. Everything's angular. The beards are a strong diamond shape. They hold up rectangle shape maces. The lava flows in sharp 90 degree angles. For simplicity, I'd suggest either copying the elegant swirls that you see on Varric's outfit (although that's HIS outfit) or something closer to what this NPC wears:

I totally get why people don't like the judgment kiss, and I think it should've been done later, privately. And for much, much, longer.

 

But, I think Blackwall gets too much blame for that kiss. He was in chains for goodness sake. He walked forward, but so did she. She reached out and caressed his face first (at least with Trev & Adaar, lol!). She was standing on the steps, so she easily could've made it so the kiss didn't happen.  It was a mutual kiss. The quizzie kissed him just as much as he kissed her. But Blackwall gets all the flack for it.

I still don't like the judgement kiss and it's okay that others don't, but I don't understand why they have to blow it out of proportion like that. Yeah, he kissed you in public, boo hoo, it's not like anyone comments on it, ever, so they can just imagine that they're alone in the hall (like I do all the time, I hate these random nobles). 

 

As for forgiveness - I consider myself a pretty forgiving person, in general. TMI AHOY: I mean, I was bullied throughout my early school years and it crippled my mental health a bit later on (I'm fine now), but I don't hate my former bullies or anything. No one would be happier if I did, so why bother? Besides, they grew up to be decent people, so what's the point? I'm not completely unresentful, I can still be petty about other things, but I'm working on it. I'm also Christian (don't run away pls), so that plays a big part in how I view things and it's the reason why I believe I have to be able to forgive, no matter how hurt or angry I might feel. There is more than one way to interpret "forgiveness", though, but I'm not going to go on about that. At least today

So, I've been recording all the cutscenes this playthrough, and I was wondering if you guys have any songs you associate with Blackwall's romance (or that would make for a good music video featuring Blackwall?).  I enjoy making music videos for Dragon Age  .  I like to plan these things ahead (way ahead- she just got to Skyhold ).

Yeah, like I've always said, it would've been nice if there were some alternative to the kissing scene during the judgment, but eh, what are we going to do? We got what we got. Fortunately for me, I've pretty much come to terms with it.

Then my character would sling the chained Blackwall over her shoulder and haul his ass to her private quarters in front of the gasping crowds. AND SCENE! *fade to black*

Hahaha, we just need to get Vivienne to have that seamstress she was talking about travel to Skyhold. Also, if the drapery dresses happen, I guess it's a good thing that I chose the Orlesian ones.
