He seems pretty old....what if he is nearing his calling? Him being able to hear the old gods song. More nightmares + iminent death +internal conflict can easily make him wanna leave the wardens.
I'm not sure if the Calling has to do with physical age, or when you became a Warden. Maybe we'll find out with him.

I always imagined that she's telling them a story of how she and another thief stole something, but her friend had to sallow it to prevent them from being caught, thing that let to that valuable object remaining stuck in his rectum which ultimately lead to a delicate procedure that necessitated a steady hand, some butter and maybe an improvised forceps.
