I played part of Blackwall's revelation last night and I have to say, in an unromanced playthrough, the story in the tavern is such a downer. I get the point it was illustrating, pretty heartbreakingly well actually, but sheesh, that's some heavy sh*t right there.

I know, right? I knew that story was coming and I was dreading it because kids and a dog getting hurt by his inaction? No wonder he gets such a tough reception. I remember telling him that story wasn't fun and Blackwall was all, "JUST LISTEN." *hangs head* OK.

I'm playing a sarcastic bastard, and if you play it out in that scene, he's absolutely cutting.

"Of course you would make light of it. You make it all look so easy."

Ouch, Blackwall, ouch.

*immediately reloads previous romanced character so she can go kiss him*

Know how some people have you at the word hello? On my first PT, I had been argumentative about the dwarf being a Herald from the get-go. (Cassandra disapproves, disapproves, disapproves. =p)

Skip to the Lone Warden:

"Who are you? How do you know my name?"

Choose the [Depends on who you ask], just to see what she says.

"Well, I'm asking you. Stop dancing."

WHOAH. This guy did not mess around.

Yeah, I love that line. Makes my knees wobble a bit. :D

Just a heads up that there's a manual banter trigger floating around the mod group, in case any of you are having extra quiet pt's. Need to use Cheat Engine, but it works from what I understand.

Sweet!  I'm going to test that out right now :D.  Thanks!

Edit: It works!  Time to catch up on all the banter I've been missing out on  ^_^

And I FINALLY heard Sera tease Blackwall about his roll in the hay with my Lavellan.  Yay- my life is complete.

Edit 2: And I managed to capture and upload it :P

I just have to share this with you, because it might explain our current obsession.

@ Mrs.Robin- LMAOOOO! I love your story. I bet lots of players have had the same reaction:

*righteous indignation* "Terrible, simply terrible. Such naked greed and self interest cannot be tolerated in my noble inquisition. His crimes are beyond forgiveness! And he lied to my Inquisitor! Let him rot in prison!"

Then: "Um...dragons keep killing me. plz help me blackwall i forgive u."

This game needed more naked something if you asked me. Hah.

My husband seemed cool with him, let him go, but also gave me a really grossed out look when it came up that I romanced him.

I'd say there's no accounting for taste, but he DID marry me soooo.

You guuuuys, DA:I crashed in the middle of my crafting and my last autosave was when I entered the undercroft.

I lost like an hour of work and three companion armours.

*sobwail* ...Hold me.

It's too late to redo it all.

...Tomorrow. I was going to do the Arbor Wilds tomorrow, but it'll have to wait. The crafting must be completed!

Oh god KS that sucks. :((((

My husband does not play DA:I and thus has no opinion on Blackwall, but tbh I imagine he'd dislike him unless he heard his banters with Sera. (And he'd dislike him for being overly serious and righteous and broody which is hilarious because pot meet kettle etc)

HOWEVER, my almost 5 year old son's comment on Blackwall is "fantastic beard!!" So at least I have one man in the house who knows what's up.

I know. Gah. But if I have my materials and schems, which I thiiiink I do, then I'll be fine and it'll be quick to redo.

If I have to go hunting for varghests again tomorrow, something is getting punched.

Lol, you just made me remember Sera's comment about Blackwall and Cassandra being broody beards, and I started giggling uncontrollably. Thanks for making me feel better!

Grossed out? Noooo, Keala, nooo! My husband loves Blackwall almost as much as I do. It has made my life a lot easier; earlier pixel crushes of mine have been met with quite a bit of scorn (that I admittedly found hilarious, but scorn nonetheless) and round the clock mockery of the character in question. I married such an insufferable turd

... <3

As for explanations for Blackwall's appeal, like lumbersexual, etc. I dunno! Some of the lumbersexual aesthetic is appealing, but I also see a lot of them in my neighborhood and find them kind of obnoxious.  I'm not a big lit person, but I see Blackwall as falling within the Byronic hero or anti-hero archetype, like Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights or even Jane Eyre's Rochester, and those two characters were my motherf___ing catnip when I was coming of age. I generally like deeds-not-words types who are charismatic and flawed as hell, but in a way that makes it worth sticking around for.

Hipsters/yuppies ruin everything. You just want to admire a well built man with a beard and some plaid and all the sudden they're riding fixies instead of chopping wood and instead of wiping sweat off their forehead, they're swiping at their smartphones furiously, trying to acquire the deal they just found on 100% organic alpaca plaid shirts, smh. (I know that'd be hard they'd find a way to make it work ok alpaca-lumberjack lifestyle)

...the aesthetic works for me, I'll admit, cuz I grew up loving dirty old country men, but it's so hard to tell who can actually carve whistles out of wood these days.

Edit: they do wear tighter jeans tho. I appreciate that.priorities!

Blecccch... and they're all shopping at Blackbird in Ballard or Freeman on Capitol Hill, buying overpriced "wildcrafted" cologne and artisanal waxed canvas messenger bags. It's like the twee evolution of ironic trucker hats and drinking PBR or something.

I found a cologne once in Ballard that was supposed to smell like dirt. And it did, tbh, it was a lovely dirt smell. But I was cracking up imagining some south lake union web developer waking up and putting on his plaid shirt and pre ripped 100$ jeans and spritzing himself with dirt cologne before spending a day in the office writing email algorithms for Amazon. like dang that's commitment to an aesthetic I guess!?

...anyway, yes. I think living in a trendy area can probably damage ones opinion towards lumberjack chic but Blackwall still gets me there, dreamy sigh.

Blackwall is kind of the real deal after all that off-the-grid living! I can't imagine that fuddy-duddy gambeson smells too good. But I do head canon that he uses some snazzy beard oils. :P

Now I'm totally curious about the dirt cologne- I only know of one, by Demeter. But there is an independent perfumer based in Oregon (Slumberhouse) that might have made one that just evaded my scent radar. Oooooh...

Wow I didn't watch the forum yesterday and it's so heartwarming finding so many new posts  B)

I'm loving all your fics and videos and everything else, keep up the awesome work and thank you for brightening my days  :wizard:

I've never seen the non-romanced Blackwall talk in the tavern, I guess it must be depressing but hey! You're talking to a man who's going to die and who's desperately searching for the courage to do the right thing, he has the right to be depressed, and scared, and wanting to share thoughts about his life with a friend before leaving the Inquisition and this world :(

Apologies I cannot remember the name of it or where I saw it...some boutique, I think they had a lot of flowers? It wasn't called dirt, it was called like...Forest Trail or something, and there was a candle of it too. I mean it was a fancy way of saying dirt and it smelled like dirt, so I call it dirt cologne.

Yes I didn't comment on anything, bit out of sorts and busy, but the fics and vids were lovely! I actually was laughing earlier because I went to the Blackwall/Inquisitor tag on AO3 and the first page was all people I knew from here or on tumblr through Blackwall chatting there. We are lucky to have such a small fandom of great writers and other talented folk. :D
