I can either play Mass Effect 1-3 or Dragon Age: Origins and 2. Any recomendations of which one first? And of these games, are there any romance options to look out for? Since you guys seem to have impeccable taste and all 

 

You jumped on with DAI? I would recommend going with DAO and DA2 then so you can play as a Grey Warden and understand why spidey senses were going off with Blackwall's answers to warden questions. Dragon Age series is going to march forward with DLCs and further sequels so you'll want to catch up and be a part of the ride. Mass Effect 1-3 is over. It's not going anywhere. And I thought I read somewhere that they were looking into polishing up 1-3 and releasing it as one big game? I dunno. I'll have to look that up. Edit: It was just a poll asking fans for feedback. Nothing official. Disregard.

If you haven't played DA:O/Da2 first, I'd recommend that, just because it provides so much context for DA:I. Also ME is its own universe and the fact that you follow one character through 3 games sucks you in so bad. You'll be lost to us for awhile.

 

As for Dragon Age romances, it's hard to say tbh.  Depends on why you like Blackwall romance and if you prefer f/m or if you're open.

 

I'd recommend Sheryl's other romances for the layered, the more you get to know them the better they are kind of deal (Leliana in DA:O, Isabela in DA2).

 

If you like melodrama with lies and big public bad things, go with Anders in DA2. If you like gruff grumpy broody baby, go Fenris in DA2. If you like self righteous hypocrite you never get to see naked, go Sebastian. (lmfao I actually love Seb but that's about the only parallel I can drive to Blackwall)

 

I don't think there is a male LI in Origins comparable to Blackwall. I have a complex relationship with Alistair (love him, but its complex ) and he's gonna be the most recommended, but I think Zevran is waaaaay underrated, he's a delight and so complex and really really really loves you with all of his precious heart, oh Zev.

Mass Effect is a totally different beast N1mh, still awesome though, but if you're still in fantasy frame of mind I'd go DA:O then Awakening (if you have it). I've always taken the romance options as they come, who I fancied most at the time generally.

I poked around in the talktable. There's no extra lines to get back together with him. I am like 99.99% sure it's a no. That vidoe doesn't show all the paths because they have shared lines, but it shows all the lines that are available for that convo.

I love how in the thumbnail for that YouTube vid it looks like he and the horse are talking! The horse is all like, "Dude - she's forgiven you and she loves you. Trust me, I'm a horse. It's all she talks about on our morning rides - Blackwall this, Blackwall that.....I probably shouldn't mention this, but she does want to see your arse."

To play these games for the first time...I'm so jelly! I'd recommend sticking with DA for a bit, because it's a chance to go deeper into territory you're already in. ME is a fab series though-I've been jonesing to replay it myself.

 

LIs in DA: I think they all have something to recommend them. The only one I didn't complete was Morrigan's, and that's only because I don't have an easy time playing men. I'll give my capsule reviews of the DAO LIs I completed the story with.

 

What I liked about Alistair: he's very detailed - he has an Achilles heel (maybe more than one), a history that you get to hear about, moral blind spots, as well as endearing traits, all while being a modest subversion of quite a few fantasy tropes. To me, this makes him pretty memorable, even when he's not likable. And in these games, I always favor the former over the latter.

 

What I liked about Zevran: hidden depths, wit, and an accepting personality. It's been a while since I've played, but I feel like Zevran wasn't as detailed as I like LIs to be, but what is there is engaging, and you can have some great convos with him about stuff. The only LI that my husband and I liked.

 

What I liked about Leliana: she has so many facets, and she is so, so sweet to you. I was intrigued by her, and as a somewhat mystically inclined religious person, I was thrilled to meet one in a game (to say nothing of being able to romance one), especially since that aspect of her is painted as something that makes her more formidable and appealing, not less. That's unique, imo. Her history was also interesting.

 

Honestly, DAO's LIs were all pretty damn good, imo.

i am averse to doing another blackwall romance still BUT i think i could def do a messed up blackwall romance where my quizzie dumps him and gets this, or he dumps her. ive actually never even seen the him dumping her dialogue, just read it in the talktables

Yeah, I'm playing right now (well, between minimizing the game and jumping back on BSN ), and she just dumped him.  I have a save right before the judgment scene (how convenient!).  He took it well, poor guy

@N1mh Definitely the Dragon Age series!  Lots of great romances.

DA:O Alistair is my #1 video game romance everrrrr.  Very first love, adorkable innocent, it is wonderful.  I am a bit blindsided to his faults, lol because he was literally my first crush on a video game character.  I didn't even know the flirting was possible until then and it was very unexpected so it was a real first love for me.

I'm determined to fully romance Zevran next playthrough, he is a great character.  Leliana is a great as a friend but I never get past flirting with her,  she is a little too sweet for me in DAO.  I have yet to romance Morrigan but might try that eventually as well.  

I just finished my first playthrough of DA2 and romanced Anders since it seemed to fit the story and I wanted all the angst.  It was pretty good, but I definitely wish we had repeatable kisses in that game.  I think more content would have made the story more intense.  I'm planning Fenris next, probably Isabella as well.

Mass Effect is fun, I'm at the end of ME2 and need to finish it and start ME3 but I've been obsessed with DA lately.

So, I tested it.  Veeia is right.  There was no opportunity to get back with him.  I just had the friendship version of the griffon scene, with no additional dialogue... *shrugs* oh well.  He also approved of my Quizzy drinking from the Well (and actually had nothing to say during that scene).

Honestly you'd prob get a more accurate answer in the Josie thread, but iirc, he doesn't mention it beyond a brief and genuine "I'm happy for you." Blackwall always admires Josie, no matter what, but his attraction to her only happens if both are unromanced, or there's a bug.

Oooh, I finally naturally triggered his leaving 5ever conversation with my Cullenmancing Lav (never finished her, trying to do that now, because I want to drink from the Well for reals). He was soooo mad, lmao, and she was like "lol bye" (they never got along).  It's so interesting to see him from this angle. I mostly feel bad for Sera. I'll have to eat a lot of cookies with her for chasing away her friend.
