I cannot stand it when people act like having a divergent opinion is due to ignorance or just in general they jump to personal/moral failings as reason why someone likes or dislikes a fictional character. It's belittling and condescending. You know very little about a person you're talking to (or more likely, about) and it's not only rude and dismissive, it can be downright cruel.

And I don't even care if someone does "seem" like they like a character for a dumb reason. I've seen stuff like "another sad boy to fix so they can feel special", and while that's obnoxious because it's likely not true (most of the time when people are fans of sad or "broken" characters they are relating to the character himself in some way , not just wanting to be his girlfriend...ie validating yourself in the process) but even if the scenario is exactly that someone feels "special" for it, why is that such a big deal, something to be torn down? It's a fictional area, they aren't obligated to focus on anything but what they want to, and I think its a more laudable choice to focus on what makes you happy than tear down other people. I mean ffs, I have one friend on tumblr that has gotten incredibly mean anon messages from Solavellan fans for shipping Solas with her dwarf. WHY. Literally you can go anywhere on Tumblr and find Solas making moony faces at elves, so go do that instead of being an ass.

(And don't even get me started on the people I've seen, here and elsewhere, who want to "save" Blackwallmancers by helping us realize we've all been raped, as if there aren't possibly actual survivors here who would find that beyond insulting. Spoiler: I'm one of them. Or any of the insulting crap I've seen about Sera, where people insinuate that no actual woman who liked other women could ever actually enjoy it unless they had internalized lesbophobia)

Ugh sorry this stuff makes me so mad, not because it personally hurts me (it can sometimes if I'm feeling low, but generally at this point in my life if someone pulls that crap I'm like "lol bye"), but because stuff like that did hurt me when I was younger and less grounded, and because I actively see it it hurting people I care about. And I already ranted about it on Tumblr earlier so it's on the mind.

@veeia -- I had been wondering what happened to your commission since you mentioned it soooo long ago. That is pure awesome. The dress, I would totally buy. Hell, if that was a Skyhold mod, I'd wear it! You should post that to the dwarf thread, btw.

@Bugsie -- I hear ya.

Done! I needed an excuse to get back to my dwarven pals.

Yeah Micah had to take awhile on it, she's got a lot of stuff going on, but it was worth it! Now I want to commission....all the pictures....from all the...artists....*stares sadly at wallet*

1) Veeia, I love how your commission turned out! It's romantic and joyous and it feels so full of life and promise, and the colors, oh the colors! I can just imagine how amazing their shared home would probably look.

2) re: "problematic" pairings - *PFFTTTTHTTTTTHHP*  I get why some people would dislike certain ships, even detest them. Question or critique the ships themselves all you like, but do so without summoning that classic inner tyrant, the armchair psychologist, to condemn the shipper, is all I ask of those critics. When someone starts seriously asserting that someone must not love or know themselves because of their taste in fictional characters, that's a bit much. It might be because they love and know themselves that they choose to explore and question the themes evoked in these ships in the safety of their imaginations, instead of seeking them out personally, and placing themselves at genuine risk. But I'm probably preaching to the choir here, so I'll just mosey along.

3) I'd love to see some fan art of Solas with other races. Same for Cullen. Good lord, imagine how cute/hot/ it could be! POSSIBILITIES!

I believe my friend who did that commission for me is working on a Solas/Cadash one atm. :D  Or a least I am fairly sure my other friend commissioned her. And I really would like to get some art with Solas and my Brosca, because I ship them a lot.

I would also love to see some Cullen/Adaar, fans self.

Those are actually probably my two favored pairings for those two, although I ran Cullen/Lav and enjoyed it a LOT more than I was expecting. (I mean specifically as the dynamic between Cullen and Lavellan, the romance is about what I expected)  I can't bring myself to really enjoy the Solasmance with Lav unless I make it all kinds of messed up because blah blah, issues, insert something about me and my problematic ships etc.

I mean it's the backgrounds not like, OOOH DIS RACE, although...probably the size difference factors in for Cullen/Adaar, lmao.

Unf, Cullen/Adaar, for sure. Cullen's so cute and genial and hamster colored - I'd love to see him with a sturdy, towering dove grey goddess! It'd be sexy and contrasty as hell.

I actually ship Fem Trev/Solas but I kinda avoid going into the Solas thread to talk about it. The vibe seems to be it's pretty hated and only elves should romance him, so I just avoid the thread entirely. I remember someone said if you want to romance Qunari or The Iron Bull, you must be into bestiality, which was just really insulting. I'm just not sure why people care one way or the other? I mean it is just a game after all, not real life. I should be able to romance or ship whom I like without being insulted.

FWIW, I totally wanted to romance Cullen with a fem Cadash, but then I heard he was race gated....talk about being bummed.

I like FemTrev/Solas too. I used to be a regular in the Solas thread until the game came out. Now I avoid it, as I try to avoid most Solas related fandom areas. It's not that all people, or even a majority of them, are bad, but....idk. That man does strange things to people.

I keep going to the barn out of habit on my Lav, and it's so empty now. Good going, Thesone. Drove off the only reason to go to that area. Well, she does like horses. And Dennett. I wonder who he's going to creep on now?

Did the Wicked Grace scene without him too. The empty chair is pretty obvious. I wonder what it looks like if you don't have him, Bull, Cole, Sera (she's under the table but it counts!) or Dorian in your party? That'd be a sad game of cards, lmao.

Related to Dennett creepery, I remember one time I went on my Cadash save to smooch Blackwall and discovered that Lord Trifles had spawned behind the barn. So it was like Master Dennett awkwardly gathering up hay on one side, Lord Trifles poorly making wind noises on the other. Can't a girl and her bear get some privacy, damn.

Your freedom stops where another's begins.

That's the key. It could be all so simple if everybody followed this simple rule.

I don't like some pairings I see on the web, like Alistair/Leliana or Cullen/Dorian, but I never insulted nor belittled the authors, nor tried to make them stop enjoying their pairing. I simply watch, think 'meh' and go on.

On the other hand I have been attacked for the 'excess of straightness' in my gallery. Sorry but my art just reflects who I am, i.e. just another ordinary straight woman, I don't make social politics through it.

I lately read on tumblr that there are people who hate you for the simple fact of being cis/white/straight. This is total nonsense, nobody was asked 'What color/gender do you want to be in your next incarnation?' and then put in front of a character creator. If you feel the need to hate, at least hate people for the things they do, those on which they have the power of choice.

I don't feel privileged for being white, in my country the economy is in freefall, I have no more job since dec 2012 (the Mayan were right! O_O) and at 43 I have no hope to find another. About being straight and cis it's not my fault and I don't want to be discriminated for it, especially by those very people who keep complaining about being discriminated.

By now there's a constant war among various cathegories: women against men, homosex against hetero and viceversa and even among different types of homosexual they manage to insult each other. Shouldn't they stick together or am I just the usual delusional naive sod?

I also noticed that many women are scared by manly men because they see them as violent and patronizing, there's a lot of feminist rage out there that doesn't make any sense. People are influenced by these hate-campaigns whose sole purpose is putting everyone against everyone, and are more focused on accusing the 'adverse cathegory' of stalking, patronizing, or doing anything that carries a fancy name in order to play the poor victim instead of just calm down and talk to another human being whose valor is not determined by gender or race. I think this 'labeling' system is just a huge trap that belittles human beings, who are so much more than just the color of their skin or what they have inside their small clothes, and make them hate each other.

I was recently contacted via pm by a tumblr user I had just started to follow because !Blackwall fan!  He felt he had to inform me of the fact that he was white cis and bisex, if I remember well, asking me if I was ok with that because some people stopped following him for that. I stared at the pc monitor in disbelief for some minutes before replying that no, I had no prob with him being those things

When I was a teen-ager human relationships were much simpler, if a classmate lifted my skirt to watch my butt I just slapped him -or started chasing him around the room to slap him. Now I guess I should report him to the police and then be submitted to a long psychological therapy aimed to help me recover from the trauma...

Here anymore, people seem even more divided. For crying out loud there are fights over PC vs Consoles and Xbox vs PS...if people can find a dividing line in the sand they are right there drawing it. Honestly? Life's too short for all this bickering and I would rather focus on the importants things, like you know,Blackwall and all his yummy glory  :P

lmao I don't know what it says about me that if some dude messaged me like "yo people have unfollowed me because I'm white and cis" I'd be like WHAT DID YOU DO THO. I've just seen way too many dudes cross clearly laid out boundaries with people on tumblr or expect handholding through social issues instead of listening or doing their own research when someone is running a fan blog or wev and then freak out and cry misandry when they were really just being disrespectful and demanding of someone else. I'm so jaded tho on that stuff. I have no qualms of course with befriending white straight cis guys, I try to take people as individuals but I get the wariness on other people's part, especially if it's just about running a fan blog that's informed by your perspective as a person in a marginalized group and you just don't want to deal with all that

oh human interactions. So complex, so difficult, so fascinating, so much embarrassment (both firsthand and secondhand tbh)

the important thing really tho is: Blackwall's booty. It's so important

Theory: why does Blackwall have a fork in his beard? Because he pulls on the middle part and tears out the hair when he is worried!

Talking about symbolism, his beard is the symbol of how often he's worried

From a practical standpoint, the shape of the beard has potential. *not thinking dirty thoughts. Nope. Nuh huh. Not me.*

I hear you there.  I used to go to the Solas thread pretty often after the game came out because Solas was my romance on my first playthrough (and he broke my heart lol).  I dared to make the comparison that Solas and Blackwall did the same thing (lie about their identity), and I got jumped by some very passionate defenders of Solas who completely trashed Blackwall's character (who I liked even before I romanced him) because "omg Solas is nothing like him" and that "Solas never lied" (lol what?).  After that, I stopped going there as often.  I love Solas's character, I just don't really care to associate with his fanbase as much anymore.

Today my bf and I celebrate our 19th anniversary together, but since he's too tired to take me out to a restaurant or do anything else I did the  Catquisition :D

Who is who?

2622ue8.png

The most adorable thing ever!

At first I was like "Well, I'm only sure which one is Vivienne."

Then I was like, "Wait, mustache kitty for Dorian and adorable short legged kitty for Varric!"

Then I realized who painted toenail kitty (I think. That's Josephine, not Leliana right?) and bald kitty were. Oh, and spooky kitty!

...Who's yawning kitty?

Adorable kitties :) <3

So, adventures of Jen Trevelyan continues. She has a thing for big, muscular warriors and decided to flirt with them all!

Results so far.

Did not understand it was a flirt: Cassandra (understandable) and Iron Bull (surprising). I thought he would be more... enthusiastic. He doesn't like human mages or what?

A lot of stuttering, blushing and tactical retreat: Cullen. Really... my Trev feels like she is a sexual predator chasing 15 year old boy... and she is younger than him. And this smile just does not help...

Spoiler

Is it going to be any good? Yes, it's pre-Skyhold, but still... bummer.

It feels like only Blackwall understands that she is flirting to him and flirts back (and very smoothly) as an interested adult man.

Cowboys!
