And I don't even care if someone does "seem" like they like a character for a dumb reason. I've seen stuff like "another sad boy to fix so they can feel special", and while that's obnoxious because it's likely not true (most of the time when people are fans of sad or "broken" characters they are relating to the character himself in some way , not just wanting to be his girlfriend...ie validating yourself in the process) but even if the scenario is exactly that someone feels "special" for it, why is that such a big deal, something to be torn down? It's a fictional area, they aren't obligated to focus on anything but what they want to, and I think its a more laudable choice to focus on what makes you happy than tear down other people. I mean ffs, I have one friend on tumblr that has gotten incredibly mean anon messages from Solavellan fans for shipping Solas with her dwarf. WHY. Literally you can go anywhere on Tumblr and find Solas making moony faces at elves, so go do that instead of being an ass.
(And don't even get me started on the people I've seen, here and elsewhere, who want to "save" Blackwallmancers by helping us realize we've all been raped, as if there aren't possibly actual survivors here who would find that beyond insulting. Spoiler: I'm one of them. Or any of the insulting crap I've seen about Sera, where people insinuate that no actual woman who liked other women could ever actually enjoy it unless they had internalized lesbophobia)
Ugh sorry this stuff makes me so mad, not because it personally hurts me (it can sometimes if I'm feeling low, but generally at this point in my life if someone pulls that crap I'm like "lol bye"), but because stuff like that did hurt me when I was younger and less grounded, and because I actively see it it hurting people I care about. And I already ranted about it on Tumblr earlier so it's on the mind.
