It is a discussion thread and all opinions are welcomed. Blackwall is not a dollar to be liked by everybody. But I don't understand the desire to come in the thread of a character you hate so much and consider unredeemable. What is the point?

That's why I stayed away for weeks. Well, that and the personal attacks. I get enough of that on a daily basis.

I only came back because someone here made a false comparison between Rainier and a character I like so I defended that other character.

Then say it to me and I'll see what you meant.

What, you mean my older arguments? I'll try to find them but no promises.

Oh yes, you misunderstand me - of course you are allowed to answer questions in a discussion/fan thread that are posed to everyone. But the way you do it? Definitely trolling, and done deliberately to ellicit a response similar to the one you have just received.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't expect anyone to respond since several have made it no secret that they want nothing to do with me. I thought it would just disappear in the stream of posts unnoticed.

D'oh, I didn't realize Hanako had returned until you quoted :D

There's a very useful function called 'ignore' in this forum, you can find it in your profile page ^^

Go for it.

please no O_O

There will always be posters who just can't or won't contribute to intelligent conversation on a given topic, for whatever reason. Maybe they just want to opinion dump and move on. Or maybe they are looking for an argument, or just simple attention. The end result is the same, whatever the motivation: posts that generally aren't worth reading.

In other words, the ignore function here is great. :)

As for my own opinion about Blackwall...

I personally think they made the reveal happen too late. I think that it should have been the midpoint of his character arc, not the very end of it. There's not nearly enough time to readjust and see what progress he might make, and what he truly will be as a character in the future.

Apart from that, he's probably my favorite warrior in the game, and I'm glad to bring him along whenever I need tanking done that isn't about fighting demons.

I feel that Xil. I think that's a hard balance, because they had to have the player invested in Blackwall for the reveal to be meaningful, but you're right in that it ends too suddenly. I think that's true with all the characters, as I think we've talked about in the Sera thread too.

Just ignore Hanako. They have the right to be here, it's not exclusively for Blackwall fans, just for any kind of discussion. I tend to ignore their posts in this thread not because they are negative, but because they often lack anything for me to meaningfully engage with. It's annoying but it's not trolling, because I believe its genuine and I strongly dislike the conflating of "poster I find annoying/wrong or someone who lacks social graces" with "trolling"

I did say 'by and large' a Blackwall fan thread, I did not mean I thought it was exclusive to fans only. Perhaps I expressed myself poorly. Of course all are welcome to express their opinions freely. I do welcome constructive discussion with several opinions/standpoints being presented.

I am relatively new to this thread and the BSN in general, and my personal impression from the posts I have seen so far by Hanako are that they are composed to deliberately goad. I apologise if I have picked the situation up wrongly, or if my choice of words offended anybody.

I'll try to remedy it by getting back on topic and throwing one of my favourite Blackwall moments/scenes in the ring:

Yes, I have issues with DAI's pacing in general, but those issues are highlighted in BW's arc. Still doesn't keep me from preferring his companionship, LI or otherwise, over most others though. There are too many thoughtful details woven into the fabric of his character that endear him to me.

You're fine, Rosalee. <3 We've just done this song and dance before and IMO, it's not worth it because it never leads the thread to good places. Better to just keep carrying on with whatever discussion we're having and engage with posts, positive or negative, that feel like they'll lead to good discussion. I'm a bit trigger happy on the "just ignore it" probably because I love this thread, and I've seen way too many other threads turn nasty because of the presence of negative posts, whether they be genuine or not, and it always bums me out.

I LOVE that scene, btw, Quizzie's little dorky "come hither" dance cracks me up, and Blackwall's little exaggerated bow...NERDS, claws face, whispers, nerds.

Also, to alleviate any feelings you have about my posts let me personally guarantee you that they are not composed to deliberately goad anyone. If it comes across like I am deliberately goading, I apologize for that is not my intention.

True. Mainquest being too short has probably something to do with it. There are just not enough missions. I would love for the Orlesian Civil War to get more attention, but alas. It's also harder to connect with companions when they are absent from most important events. Advisors taking the spotlight was different from previous games and I'm not sure I like it.

It doesn't feel like we really get to know the advisers any better either. If only the sidequest material had been better fleshed out, we could have gotten a lot of character and world development there imo.

Me and DA:I in a nutshell, tbh. "I love you, but if only...."

<3 back!

I like to headcanon that they are both slightly tipsy in that scene after the crazy 'we're still alive yay!!' party - that explains the wobbles and the swagger! :)

Agreed. I think it should have triggered after beating only Here Lies The Abyss rather than that and Wicked Hearts Wicked Eyes. I can see him realizing he has to face the consequences for his actions after seeing the Grey Wardens, the group he idolizes, do the same thing. It would then give an extra main quest mission worth of development, especially since said extra main quest mission is the Orlesian Court. There would definitely have been unique dialogue.

Thankyou Hanako for the welcome. Lets start afresh :)

You are welcome and thank you as well, Rosalee. ^_^

I agree, let's start over.

I would be happy if the quests had a little more interaction and reaction from the companions/advisors. It would tie things in so well, if we just had some responses as to what they thought/felt about the quests. We have a little bit, but not nearly enough. It wouldn't even have to be cutscenes, just even the little conversations would be good. Some of the quests, main & side quests, seem like they should have more reaction from the people.

And I'd have loved it if we got a final talk to each one, like we did in Origins at the gate.

For a favorite Blackwall scene. It's so hard to choose! I love when you first meet him, that whole interaction is wonderful. And the first flirt always tickles me. But the thing I come back to again and again is the repeatable barn kiss. The way he leans into you and sort of pins you against the wood for such a hot kiss, but then after it's all gentle and caressing. Hnnnngghghh. Love it.

Actually, I think personally what I would have liked to see was to keep the reveal where it was (although Hanako, you're certainly right that a revelaed Blackwall in the Orlesian court would be fascinating) but give him an extra quest later, dealing with the fallout, where both you and he have to come to terms with it. NOT A WAR TABLE MISSION, lmfao, a real quest.

Most of the companions would have benefited from some kind of small quest like that in the end anyway, imo.

This is my feeling as well. I don't mind the length of the main quest, but I wish the side quests would've been tied in better. For example, the Orlesian civil war can be enriched by doing the sidequests, but sometimes it feels like such an empty stretch of space. If you had more interaction about what you were doing there, it could've been so much better.

Also, yes, I wish we had more story or more talks with Blackwall after the reveal. It's really missing something in the aftermath.

Cullen and Leliana are returning characters so I guess Josephine could use more content... I usually like nice girls (Liara, Bethany) but nothing clicks for me here.

Agree. Crafting is great but gathering schematics and resources makes it tedious. Wartable missions are interesting but why so many of them take so much time? And I would love to take part in them like with Southerland squad. They were sure more interesting than sidequests. And the list goes on...

I would love if one of the DLCs for Dragon Age: Inquisition did something like this for the companions and advisers.

I honestly think a real touching scene for Rainier for them to do would be him visiting the Callier grave and basically telling the grave, and thus the dead family, what he tells the Inquisitor.

Agreed @Sabreenei on the final talk before the battle thing - was a nice touch in Origins.

And also agreed on the repeatable barn kiss - pinning you against wooden objects seems to be par for the course for Blackwall! Bedroom balastrade anyone? This well used gif expresses my thoughts on the matter:

and it's also applicable to some Zaeed/Shepard saucy fanfic I found the other day *cackle*

Okay...my favorite Blackwall moment is the tavern date, when you call him out on his brooding, and his gruff, affronted reaction:

"I am not."

Yes, dear man-child, you are. And it's cute. Just this once, anyway. :P

God I've been so DA:I mia lately in the head lately and this thread is making me all floppy all over again. Dang y'all! Shakes fist. (Not really lmao, I'm lazing about in bed, recovering from illness, with nothing better to do than flop over Dragon Age and maybe even fire up the game again.)
