Yes Gilsa I recently started replaying Origins and while it took me awhile to get over the ape arms, I was shocked at how much taller they were and that I had forgotten that so fast. Agree with you 100% and I love that photo, perfect!!!

I loved the size and shape of the dwarves in DAO, especially with tmps arm fix. I also liked the size of elves in DAO, they were smaller but still looked healthy.

I have a question, not quite related to Blackwall, but related to quizzie heights vs Blackwall. How tall do you all picture your quizzies, with Blackwall? If only there were body sliders!

I imagine my Elfquizzy to be about shoulder-level to Blackwall, or a bit taller. She also has this lithe, slender build, which makes her look tiny next to him. Not gonna lie, I thought a lot about Daenerys and Drogo when I created her character, even though I'm not a huge fan of Game of Thrones. I miss DAO elves. I started a new Tabris recently and I'd forgotten how tiny the female elven warden looked compared to Alistair!

Spoiler

Maybe it's not that apparent in the screenies, but the contrast is more prominent while playing.

In DAI, the elves don't seem to have a fixed height, they shrink and stretch depending on the cutscene. Like dwarves and Qunari and pretty much everyone else, though to a lesser extent than the former two.

Here's my elf looking pretty small while chatting with Cullen

Spoiler

And here she's dancing up Blackwall while suddenly being almost as tall as him.

Spoiler

Maybe I'm imagining it though, but she does look shorter to me in some scenes.

Edit: okay, "almost as tall as him" is an exaggeration, but still looks taller than with Cullen, even though he and Blackwall seem to be about the same height.

Edit2: accidently typed "Bleakwall" while editing and now I'm chuckling like an idiot. I'm way too easily amused. In my defense, it's late and I've had too much wine.

@Gilsa, love your Brosca! I assume it's Brosca, because brand  :) Looks pretty and badass. Your quizzy looks pretty too, but there's just something off with DAI dwarves' proportions

It's not been easy to find an image of Cullen dancing with elfquizzie but I managed to find this video

Go at 31:50 and you'll see that the height difference between the two is the same that there is between Blackwall and quizzie. Heights are definitely fluctuating in DA:I

@ sabreenei: now I understand why the hysterical reaction to my reply on tumblr, but since the author of the post enabled the 'answer' thing I thought replies were welcome, all kinds of replies

My elf dude would constantly grow and shrink. He's shorter than Dorian but in some scenes with Blackwall he'd grow.

Yeah I think all the models do that, even humans, in cutscenes esp romance ones. So you're free to hc you Quizzie however you like, even if it's that they got special mutant shape shifting powers that can't be controlled, but are activated by being turned on, or something.

I hated how tall lady dwarves sometimes looked in DAO - at times, it almost looked like they reached Alistair's sternum, and that just takes the dwarf out of the dwarf for me. :P (YMMV, of course.) I'm much happier with the DAI model, except that they're a bit too lean... there are times when they look more like hobbits than dwarves. DO NOT WANT. Where's the happy medium?

I don't think male dwarves changed all that much over three games. They've always looked fab.

Poor elves, though. Their heights are so wonky I'm not even sure how tall the "average" elf in Thedas is anymore...

In shameless self-promotion, I created a meme after my Inquisitor's thoughts each time I ended up having to solo another dragon

In a Blackwall romance PT, do you prefer to do Adamant or the Winter Ball first?

I like to do the Ball first because once I start on Adamant I have a habit of doing all the side quest in the west.

That's a really interesting question, Gilsa, and hard to answer.  Both quests are kind of crucial to his narrative and the dual aspects of him, so I wonder if it might just depend on which way you lean there? I don't send him to the Wardens and I don't particularly care for his Warden romanticization, so I think I prefer Halamshiral second. Like he can pretend and cling as much as he wants, but when he gets to Orlais and is back in that society, it all comes back. It also actually gives him more time to process with happened at Adamant, imo. And I think the foreshadowing for his true identity is strongest at Halamshiral and so as a cohesive storyline there, it works best that way.

...but those are just first thoughts, I might change that....like I said, it's an interesting question...gonna think on that a bit more.

edit: this is really just about Blackwall's narrative tho, not a romance PT. I think that just for the romance, I prefer Halamshiral second as well, because of the dance.

What can I say, I'm greedy for my dance with Blackwall, so I usually do Halamshiral first. I also consider it the calm before the storm - well, sort of. At least there's dancing and punch, in addition to death and attempted assassinations (you do not get dancing and punch while in the Fade!).

@veeia -- Since I keep my original decisions intact, I'm just going to banish the Grey Wardens again and wondered how that might have played out if I did Adamant last. I was envisioning the truth about the Grey Wardens coming out, Blackwall expressing his frustrations about Clariel, and then that drink at the bar before he leaves. I thought, huh, it could almost appear to the Inquisitor that he left because of her GW decision (even though we know that's not the story). So I just wondered what order people preferred.

I prefer doing Halamshiral second because of the whole "last dance" vibe. When I rerolled my canon PT, I tried a different order to try get the special dialogue about Kieran - got Alistair first, then did Halamshiral, then Adamant ( didn't work  <_< ). In this case, the wood chopping cutscene appeared right before the Revelations and it looked kind of out of place to me. It's not a huge thing, but Blackwall's screentime after each quest feels kind of unbalanced like that - a small casual remark about the civil war after Halamshiral, then a cutscene followed by the big personal quest after Adamant.

@Gilsa yeah that's what I was thinking too like, the way I played the game (Wardens in tact, Blackwall staying away from them), the order doesn't matter as much and so I prefer Halamshiral last, but I could really see some interesting stories coming out of Adamant coming second, especially if you banished them or you had Blackwall's redemption hang on his return to the Wardens (esp if he stood up and saved a bunch of them with that special dialogue).

Q for all you fine Blackwall lovers.

If, by the end of the game, Mr. Ranier doesn't come clean about his identity, is it something I've done or is it a glitch?

I'm trying to figure out if it's not resolved if it'll screw up future content or if it'll be okay with my poor inquisitor being totes ignorant? Because I'm out of quests to get him to fess up.

@Ave: Hmm, the Revelations quest should trigger after Halamshiral and Adamant.

It did not.

However I heard that if you don't take him when you find at least one of his fetch quest things then his quest wont trigger.

I googled a bit to see if others were in your position. My best guess is that either your game is bugged or the approval isn't high enough. I saw one poster say that the personal quest wasn't triggering after both WEWH and Adamant, but once approval gains were made via memories of the grey, the dog story triggered. Since you've already done that, my suggestions would be to either find some darkspawn and get some "slightly approves" that way OR use the save editor to change the approval value for Blackwall (just back up one of your save, test it by changing Blackwall's approval value - max is 125, and load it up in the game to see if that worked).

Yes it definitely looks like his quest does glitch out for some people (not romancers, it seems to always trigger for them),  BUT I would make sure that your approval is high enough. Blackwall has to really trust you to do that quest, so if you've gotten a few Greatly Disapproves, you have to make it up.  So while I do know of several people who coulnd' trigger it no matter what, most of the people I've seen struggle with it just didnt' have high enough approval.  The save editor is a great fix if you can use it!

I'm on console, but I'm already post end-game on the save. I suppose I could go back but I don't really have one that is close enough to the end not to waste a bunch of hours.

Thanks for the advice.. Its my canon PT so I guess I should either go back or deal with him not being...him.

I know none of the companion quests will trigger post end-game. The general side-quests are all still open, but anything that has to do with companions is a done deal when you finish the game.

I'm in agreement with Gilsa & Veeia. I've heard of a few people that got bugged no matter what, but for most it was a question of approval.

If you play another character and get the quest, it should be open to you in the Keep. So if it does effect future content, you could always just change your choice there. (I also heard that father down the road they'll open up all the choices in the keep, whether you've done them or not. Not sure how far down the road they were speaking of, though!)

Ah yeah, you def can't trigger it post game, sadly. Would it bother you to go back to an earlier save and just play it but not finish the game that way? That's what I did with Dorian's quest on my canon PT...I got the glitch, and while I wasn't gonna play through 80 hours just to have that quest on my finished save; I did go back and do it with my character, just to have played through it with her. The only thing you'd miss would be his final comment at the party, tbh, and I can't imagine its so wonderful you'd want to play that much to get to it.

Oh, you're post-game already? Ouch, well, I'd say to just look up Blackwall video(s) if you want to see the dialogue but don't really want to replay the whole game again just for that at this point (at least, that's the easiest thing to do - if you really want the big reveal in-game, yeah, I guess you'll have to go back a ways...).
