I just encountered a bit of banter between Blackwall and Sera (getting banter is still rare for me in DA:I unfortunately) and it raised a question. I figured if anybody would have an answer for this it would be the dedicated Blackwall fans.

 

This was shortly after completing Blackwall's personal quest and Sera remarks that he didn't always have a beard. Blackwall jokes about it, but Sera says that she saw a picture of him without it, prompting him to respond that the real Blackwall had a beard. The thing is, Sera refers to him as Todd Reynard, rather than Thom Reinier.

 

Is this Sera getting Blackwall's original name wrong, or was his real name different at some stage of development and a mistake slipped through in dialogue? Maybe it's unknown, but I figured I'd ask.

@BigEvil: Sera just seems to have a habit of messing people's names up. How much of that is the accidental or on purpose (presumably to inject humor into a conversation), I'm not sure. I do recall that she referred to Corypheus as "Coryphemus" or something similarly silly when we last chatted. I assumed that she did it to flippantly mock him - could be she's also making light of Blackwall's situation and being humorous about the name thing.

Yeah I think that's just Sera being Sera. Generally she "messes up" words/names because she doesn't care enough to get them right. So usually it's a sign of disrespect. My reading of that is that she cares so very little what his "real name" is that she just says whatever. There it's like...kind of a kind thing? He's Blackwall to her, whatever stupid name he had before.

Finally finished a new chapter - technically, I've been done for a month but proceeded to do a lot of highly obsessive editing (being a perfectionist writing-wise and all). Later will mean months I'm afraid, right now I need to stay away from dragonage fandom for a while. I'm so nauseated that I can't play the game anymore because it reminds me of all the fandom crap I've read and seen in the last year (way too much). Um so this is my first post here, so hi everyone

 

I don't know if anyone's interested or if anyone else has done this, but I recorded Blackwall's Fairel's Tomb story (+ Sera's comment) so you can listen to Alastair Parker's great VAing

 

I'm working through all the possible party combos for Fairel's Tomb to check if there are any other companion comments besides Sera's. I don't think there will be any but.... I have the saves and I'm curious so why not

Haha, he leaves a line out for a female Inquisitor.  With a male Inquisitor, he'll mention that he spent a week with the "bounciest doxy" to help him forget all that he'd seen.

Omg really I... I'm so mad I won't get to hear that until I play a male Inquisitor!! damn i guess i should just give in and replay the game instead of using old saves to grab dialogue

 

it's hilarious that he doesn't say that to a female inq though (or maybe it's because I romanced him? idk)

As I recall, if you bring Varric, I think his dialogue completely overrode Blackwall's story, so I didn't even hear any of his Wilfred-related adventures at all on my first run. It seemed like his dialogue superseded Blackwall's when I brought both of them with me to the tombs.

 

With all the past dialogue-related wonkiness, I don't know if it was the result of a bug or if there's just a set hierarchy in terms who is given priority in triggering banter at a specific location. Might be a good experiment to bring both of them along at this point, and I did just hit the Hissing Wastes again over the weekend (before I got sucked into doing the weekend challenge anyway...heh), so maybe I'll try it later on.

 

I'd be fine with hearing the doxy line on my fem-quisitor because I think it's hilarious - fortunately, playing as a female and getting to kiss Blackwall makes up for not getting to hear the funny dialogue!
