Beats me. I keep checking youtube videos and tumblr in hopes that someone puts up actual screenshots or footage of the romanced warden epilogue. The hearsay is killing me.

If it's not up in a few hours, I can go replay the ending and grab some screen caps! (If I turn it down onto casual it shouldn't take me long, and I've been thinking that I want to see it all again anyway.) I just need to eat lunch first.

I finished Trespasser with a romanced+atoned Rainier and with a friendship Warden Rainier. I noticed there were differences in the dialogue so I ran through all of his trigger spots and rotated through the companions reactions. (I don't know why I'm a dialogue nerd. I just am. I love this stuff!) Anyway, if you're curious, it's in spoilers below. If you're still playing or have yet to play, skip over my post. Ignore the man behind the curtain! =p

I only focused on four areas where Thom Rainier has a dialogue trigger that is specific to him. (Getting his reaction to OTHER companion triggers is too daunting of a task. =p)

 

#1 - First trip into the eluvian, just past the spirit guards

(Dialogue is exactly the same for both Warden and Atoned Rainier versions.)

Opening statement:

Rainier: "Too bad we're not here at night. We could come back when it's dark, use the stars to see exactly where we are."

 

Companion responses:
Varric: "Come back in the dark. For Qunari to ambush us."
Rainier: "Lost your sense of adventure already, Master Tethras?"
Varric: "I forgot how much you always liked this kind of crap."

#2 Deep Roads eluvian - at the cliff, near the beginning

Rainier: "You can practically feel it, can you? All that rock hanging above your head. Maker, I hate fighting underground."

Rainier: "'Drop and give me fifty,' for starters."

Dorian: "And you wanted to become a Grey Warden?"

Opening statement:
Rainier: "Smuggled an unpopular baron out of Orlais once. He insisted we use the Deep Roads so no one would follow. Nineth day out, we camped in a cavern by a lake. Stunk to high heaven, but I couldn't place the smell. We woke to a Carta ambush. I shouted orders. Grabbed a sword and lantern. The dwarf fighting me froze at the light. On a hunch, I told my men to run, cut down the dwarf, and tossed the lantern into the lake. It exploded into flames. Some sort of oil in the water. Found the surface just in time, since the blaze went on for days."

 

Companion responses:
Varric: "That was you? That fire took out half the Carta's hideouts north of Orzammar!"
Rainier: "Oh. Maybe no need to go around repeating that story, then."
 

Iron Bull: "Rainier, how are you still alive?"

There was a little dialogue bit that gave me a lot of feelings, but I only managed to trigger it once. 

I had trouble triggering it too. For some reason it fires up only when I load save before walking through eluvian in Winter Palace, and even then it doesn't work if Sera or Vivienne are in the party. So I just had to record it..for feels. Also as a bonus here's banter with Sera that chsskatze mentioned.

And can I just join in everyone's cheering about the fact that we can call him Thom? This and the tile on character screen that referred to him as Reinier were the best parts.

OK, I got food, and now I have screen shots from the romanced Warden epilogue! Turns out that the game autosaves after the last boss battle, so all I had to do was sit here drinking my tea and clicking PrtScn.

Yeah, I'm going with free Blackwall next time I romance him. After Warden Blackwall and Solas it would be nice to finally get a happy ending. 

 

But I'll probably keep him as a Warden on my friendship playthroughs. The Wardens need more sane people.

The first time around, I accidentally skipped a bunch of dialogue options with Solas by asking him about the Mark right away in the second conversation hub. So it was nice to be able to ask him about the Orb and the Eluvian network and say 'for what it's worth, thanks for the castle.'

Copying and pasting this post over from another thread for the FYI. This is "forced to maintain the lie" version of Blackwall in Trespasser.

I had an unromanced Blackwall that wasn't sent to the GW and allowed to remain free, but maintain the lie.  He still ends up going back to using his real identity (and runs around trying to make amends with his old soldiers and redeeming others).  I assumed that after Corypheus was done with, Quizzy was okay with him doing as he pleased since he was done serving against the main crisis.

I didn't even think some people wouldn't get the arm/get to see it. I thought it would be a cannon thing.

 

The warden ending is heartbreaking,but it's not really a surprise that he would die or we wouldn't see him anymore/as much as a warden. It's why I didn't send him to the wardens,I'm not about to send my LI into the possible death sentence that is the joining,then there's also the calling. I do like sad endings and being heartbroken,but Thom is too great for me to let go of him like that.

 

I didn't get that last dialogue about the hand,thanks for sharing Gvalchca,also thanks for the dwarven architecture banter. How much I love those two together.

I have a PS3...
I can't play Trespasser...
I don't know what I'm going to do!

I've already spoiled myself on the Rainier endings, so I'm much more calm (and quite happy), but I want to SEE it for myself! I haven't spoiled myself on much else, so the plot is still mostly a mystery to me. I don't know anything about the other companions. My Solacemancing Lavellan is prepared with her strong-face on.

I will eventually get a PS4, but that could be months from now. Then buying the game again (huff)... Even then, will I have to replay everything? That's so much TIME. I'll do it, of course, if I can wait and save up. But can I wait? I'm seriously considering looking up a YouTube lets play or something. Ow, my heart!

I just realized the symoblism of the scene with Blackwall in Trespasser, but it was so out of place the first time I saw it that I didn't make the connection until I replayed it for dialogue variations.

I didn't understand why, after arriving in Winter Palace and talking to Blackwall first thing, that the Inquisitor felt the need to take a nap. In the middle of the day? And why was Rainier all the way over there? Why not just lie down with her? It finally dawned on me that this was a do-over for the barn scene when the Inquisitor woke up alone to a goodbye note. D'ooooooooh. That scene never bothered me in the first place so I just didn't think about it. I do remember a lot of people being angry about waking up naked and uncovered so that's funny that the Inquisitor slept fully clothed. It would have been great if a naked Blackwall walked up to the bed this time. =p

I haven't been on the forum for ages, but oh my how I loved the content for Blackwall/Thom in this DLC!  It was so so great.

I could tell they had listened to some of the concerns of fans – like the complaints about him leaving her alone and naked, about how he shouldn’t be just let of free, etc. 

 

I’m glad I did not send him to the wardens as my LI, I think I sent him in my second playthrough.  I am not quite done with that but it is a Cullen-mancer and I really want to see how that plays out in the DLC as well so I guess I should finish.

 

It was just so fun to play again… I’m ready for DA4 already, like now.

they made differences in endings between the romanced vs unromanced warden Rainier. I know several people were upset over it.

Anyway I got my happy ending, overall pretty satisfied. Plus

I really like the non-romanced, non-Warden Rainier epilogue. Becomes the jolly bearded vigilante helping the helpless.

@Bugsie -- I really, really, really, reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally love that GIF. I've always admired the Adaar/Blackwall pairing. So powerful. Since I personally favor dwarves (I only picked up Origins because dwarves were a playable race), this is how I felt about my Cadash/Blackwall pairing after the epilogue:

I liked the atoned path. Seemed hypocritical if my thug forced him to join the Grey Wardens when being a thug was her bread and butter pre-Inquisition. And Blackwall actually inspired me to a little nicer on my Cadash and try to be a better Inquisitor because he kept seeing the good in her. I was ready to be snarky and pragmatic, but Blackwall actually influenced her to be a softer, more compassionate person. So him traveling to prisons and inspiring others completely made sense. And since Cadash had been in prisons, she was not out of her element and fit right in with traveling alongside with him.

 

I am really looking forward to replaying my Cadash with him because there's such a bright light at the end of the tunnel for their story.

 

And also, thoughts on THAT epilogue:

This is one of those things where I'd need a dev to spell this out. Kinda like the ME3 ending where it's not clear the crew went looking for Shepard until they verified it on twitter.

WobbleLikeAJelly I feel you.I only got a ps4 recently and had already played Inquisition several times on my 360,but I had no problem with paying a lot of money to play a game that I had played so much alrealdy,also the graphic difference is stunning. Anyway the first time I played Inquisition was January/February 2015 so I had some months of resisting spoilers,so be strong! It's so much better to discover things as you play.

I was actually more pissed at him for leaving me naked,alone,in a BARN,than for the things he did and hiding his identity. When the scene came up in Trespasser I was like "Oh Bioware you sneaky clowns."

 

I suppose the badge with the feather could either mean that he died,or there's trouble with the wardens,or maybe something else. I do believe he would ask someone to send those or warn Inqui in the case of his death.

 

Quick off topic question,was Trespasser the same price as the other dlcs for you guys? In my country it's more expensive than Descent,very uncool.

Maybe it's overthinking it, but I'm kinda suspicious of the symbolism in that slide too. My first thought was of course that he's dead and this is maybe the Wardens' way to notifying spouses of deaths in the rank, like some countries' armies do with giving families the flag, but... since when has that even been a thing with the Wardens? We've had a lot of Warden deaths in the series, and there's never been any reference to this kind of tribute.

 

And then, the griffon feather itself... where are they getting these? Do the Wardens have a stockpile from the old times, or are the baby griffons from Last Flight all grown up at this point? It does mention several years have passed. Is Thom somewhere around these griffons now? (is he riding griffons now???) So now, rather than making me think he's dead, this slide is making me think Thom is trying to tell his beloved something with this mysterious gift, send some kind of coded message that he can't really write down or sign his name to.

 

Of course, if Sheryl clears up that it definitely means he's dead, I'll take her word for it, but until then this slide is just... very strange.

About the romanced Warden thing -

this ending is really sad, but it also makes sense, IMO. He has his duties with the order now, so he probably can't afford to get distracted, especially with the whole Weisshaupt thing going down. Him (probably) dying is also not surprising, considering the life of Wardens and, again, the Weisshaupt unrest.

 

Edit: To be honest, all of this is precisely why I didn't want to make him a Warden.

 

Overall, I absolutely loved his character arc,

especially the fact that he chose to go by Thom Rainier after all. The only thing I'm not happy about is that we didn't get to marry him. I really don't see a reason why Cullen/Bull/Sera would be up for it, but not Thom. (on the other hand, marriage would make the Warden ending even more tragic   ) But since it doesn't actually contradict the epilogue, I just headcanon that they got married after the end of the game and only postponed it because they wanted their families to be there (I'm a sap). Speaking of which, am I the only one who would want to see the Inquisitor meet his relatives? He did mention that he got to see some his family again.

Interesting, because the only time I managed to trigger it was with Vivienne in my party. And I reloaded from Winter Palace too. 

 

But that "counterweight" banter, OMG. I didn't catch the meaning at first (not my first languge and all), but when I did I actually laughed out loud. I love it when we get to see his sense of humor. Thank you for posting these!

I get the feeling the devs were being cheeky with this scene, like "Didn't like the nude thing? Have your Inquisitor preserve her dignity by sleeping in her formal wear!" 

 

This scene was kind of awkwardly animated, but I loved it anyway. I just really wanted my Quizzy to call him an ass for that chuckle (in the most affectionate way possible)

the more I think about it the more intrigued I am, I mean what the hell is going on at Weisshaupt???? This is something I keep thinking and it just won't go away. Is there more to it? Is the Hero of Fereldan involved? Is Hawke tied up in it too?  SOOOO many questions!! It would be good to get confirmation on his death, though...

It's really strange what happened since Hawke returns to Kirkwall eventually and non-Romanced Warden Rainier is seen traveling around doing Warden duties while taking time to help people and give children wooden carvings.
