I know some of you aren't fans of beardless Blackwall, but I saw this today on Tumblr from lustandai and I am so compromised it's not funny.

Holy crap! That's Blackwall? He looks amazing! Didn't know he was so young! I put him late 50s early 60s with that awful beard. Maybe the beard covering his expressions is part of the reason I have a hard time forgiving him.

@maia: Well, Blackwall is supposed to be in his 40s - lol (which totally works for me since I am too).

I like the expression in that gif but ...I think he kind of looks like a muppet without the beard. His face is as round as an orange, plus he looks too young. Unpopular opinions and all.

Is it just me or does Blackwall seam like the kind of guy that when no one is around would walk around in "nothing" but a t-shirt and a pair of socks?  <3

@ AtreiyaN7

LOL, we seem to have similar favorites. I suspect you're right that Blackwall doesn't approve of lobotomizing people in general, and may well feel that other options give the Wardens more justice. He could also be thinking that a Tranquil Erimond would lack the capacity to atone. I took the attitude that there were certain lines my Inquisitor must never cross, and that's one of them, tempting though it was.

@ Gilsa and Scuttlebutt101

What's the "Too soon?" line? I haven't played a human.

On another note, has anyone else ever found it odd that we can't ask Blackwall about "his" note that we find at Skyhold? Okay, so he didn't really write it, but the Inquisitor doesn't know that at the time. After I found it on my first playthrough, I went to talk to him and was surprised there was no option to inquire about it. Given Skyhold's remoteness, it seems natural to me that the Inquisitor might want to know how he found the place, what brought him there, and why he hadn't said, "Oh, yeah, I've been here before," when they first arrived. I also admit that I would like to hear what awkwardly evasive response he would come up with, because it would likely be funny. :P

Slightly off topic, but I have actually been watch the Muppets reboot - it's surprisingly funny, so I would find an actual muppetized Blackwall pretty funny (can you imagine: Blackwall in muppet form WITH a beard? lol!).

Oh man, I have always liked the way your mind works. AtreiyaN7! :D And yeah I've heard good things about the reboot and have plans to check it out. Sweet nostalgia!

Okay also, the lack of beard calls attention to his mullet, which takes me back to the eldritch horrorfest that was my pre-teen years.

That said, I would still let him ravish me in his tricked out El Camino to the tune of Journey's "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin." B)

Ok I adore BW with his beard, because full beards are gorgeous imo. But him with out his beard is just...its like he is a different person and just as breath taking.

He looks a heap younger without the beard. With or without I am a fan, because if you were't paying attention to his eyes right from the start you were missing something!

Yeah, 2 more years and I'm in my 40s as well! The beard and the voice just fooled me into thinking he was much older!  I should know better since I still get mistaken for my 20s all the time, which is cool and all, but annoying when ladies my age treat me like a youngster.

I may only have a bromance with Blackwall, though it extends to the point where I don't romance Josephine out of guilt. So I figured I'd share this in here.

Finally got my bogus Chantry-lover playthrough to the point where I'd get the last new Trespasser armor. I was looking for a non-Warden branded armor, that also doesn't half his body mass like the rest of the unique ones; since it simply looks disturbing.

Alas, here's how I envision Rainier looking when allowed to live under his true identity:

0jDzhA8.jpg

I find it to look very Orlesian, and still very bad ass. The default Orlesian Warrior armor has too much ornamental bollocks (figuratively speaking, though one can never be sure) on it, I couldn't imagine him using such a posh thing on the battlefield.

P.S.: I hold the lot of you responsible by scarring me for life with beardless Blackwall imagery!

What's the "Too soon?" line? I haven't played a human.

If the Quizzy is human, there's no "I thought you'd be human" line in his first Haven diaogue (obviously, heh). Instead it's something like this:

Blackwall: The Divine's death, The Wardens - none of this makes sense. There's so much we don't know."

Inquisitor (middle option): Already feeling like a part of the team?

Blackwall: *smiles like in the gif* Too soon? I thought we were building a rapport.

I thiiiiiink his jawline was scaled back in order to accommodate his beard. I remember the first time I saw a mod that took away his beard, it looked like half of his face was missing. There used to be a gap between the beard and the jawline in the CC for male characters so the player would have to adjust the jawline to close the gap. Since Blackwall has a custom beard, that probably accounts for why his face appears so round otherwise. This is just my theory. Could be completely off the mark.

Me either (dwarf only here, hee hee) so had to dig up a video to show ya. It's human only because the rest of us get the racial "I thought you'd be ..." version instead. Line shows up at 30 seconds or so.

Edit: Scuttle and I posted at the same time! Consider the video a bonus. =p

I remember why I came to this thread before I got distracted with the conversations. I remember way back in the day (ok, several months ago) that some didn't appreciate waking up naked in the barn without a blanket or anything. Is this still an issue? There are a lot of advancements with modding and I'm sure it'd be possible to make a mod to replace the naked body with maybe the swimsuit or default pajamas just for this scene. It doesn't bother ME, but if there's a desire to cover up, then I can look around and see if there's a modder willing to put something together.

I haven't heard many complaints about that recently, TBH. Or maybe it's just that people aren't focusing so much on Blackwall now that they have a different character to feel indignant about. Me, I don't mind a bit of drama. I loved that Blackwall seemed to be running away from commitment but was actually running toward an even bigger, scarier one. As for the nudity, I would rather have seen a topless Blackwall, but I'm not going to faint away in a fit of prudish vapors. Plus, there's compensation. We don't get to see shirtless Blackwall in that scene, but we do get that luscious part picker card, so I call it an even trade.

That does remind me, I was amused by the scene in Trespasser where the Inquisitor wakes up alone in her bedroom (but in her clothes this time!) and she's initially wondering where Blackwall is, because it looks like he's disappeared on her again. Then he pops up (in front of the fireplace, I think) and says "I'm not going anywhere." or something to that effect. It seemed to be a pretty obvious acknowledgment of what happened in the barn after the romance scene and how he will never again leave her in the middle of the night like he did before.

I was always pretty much okay with the hayloft scene as is and waking up naked (though my preference would have been to see naked Blackwall instead of naked Inquisitor). I sort of view the aftermath as being the kind of sudden and unpleasant shock that was probably intended to be a punch to the gut (particularly with the nakedness), which it managed to be for me. At any rate, once I found out the truth about why Blackwall left, I was like "Yeah, I guess you did have a valid reason for leaving like that (but still, maybe a blanket before you rode off to your death would have been nice)."

@Gilsa, I think that was a deal breaker for some on the romance front because it's kind of too goddamn real. And that's perfectly reasonable to have a reaction like that. I keep saying this, but Blackwalls betrayal is so personal. There is no greater good (like in Solas case where he has an agenda to his betrayal and always did), it's about him lying to you when he could have trusted you, opened up to you when you opened your heart to him. Personally I love the fact it really played on this in the game, kind of ripping your heart open enough to make you think about the consequences and whether the romance is worth pursuing.

I know someone who had created aninquisitor who couldn't read (or read well) so the issue of leaving something in writing for her felt extra cruel in this instance. I think she set this as part of her OC personality before she rolled that romance.

For me, every time someone goes off on him as a character being boring dull or ugly or too beardy I keep thinking, did you take him out in the field, did you talk to him in the barn? Did you play the same game as me? And then I don't care if people hate him because I get that wonderful scene where he looks up to my Adaar in Trespasser and they kiss. Honestly, Bioware taking time to fix the shrinking qunari animation blew me away.

Funniest tags I got on the gifs I made were - #touch it Blackwall, #touch that butt,# kiss ur tall wife

Oh, I know who you mean about their OC not being able to read. I really like that kind of roleplay, makes you look at things in a fresh light. I was torn between romancing Blackwall and Sera on my first run so I looked in the fan threads at the time to see if people were all "yay" or "zzz." Someone didn't put spoilers in tags so I knew he was not a Grey Warden, but I didn't know why or anything. It intrigued me enough to keep going on his romance path because I was considering breaking up with him at the time. I just couldn't understand what he saw in thug Cadash, that maybe he had an overly idealized view of her as the Herald. I was feeling like my thug was actually the fraud in the relationship. I even felt guilty and started to be nicer in my decisions to live up to his vision of her, y'know? Revelations was liberating (hey, you're just like meee!) and I guess somewhere along the way Cadash was inspired to be a better person so they rubbed off on each other and all. I was all set to be the next Godfather when he came along and messed up my long-term plans!

And I was torn on what to do at the end of Trespasser because of Blackwall. Don't know if we are still tagging spoilers at this point, but I'll be safe:
