LOL, we seem to have similar favorites. I suspect you're right that Blackwall doesn't approve of lobotomizing people in general, and may well feel that other options give the Wardens more justice. He could also be thinking that a Tranquil Erimond would lack the capacity to atone. I took the attitude that there were certain lines my Inquisitor must never cross, and that's one of them, tempting though it was.

On another note, has anyone else ever found it odd that we can't ask Blackwall about "his" note that we find at Skyhold? Okay, so he didn't really write it, but the Inquisitor doesn't know that at the time. After I found it on my first playthrough, I went to talk to him and was surprised there was no option to inquire about it. Given Skyhold's remoteness, it seems natural to me that the Inquisitor might want to know how he found the place, what brought him there, and why he hadn't said, "Oh, yeah, I've been here before," when they first arrived. I also admit that I would like to hear what awkwardly evasive response he would come up with, because it would likely be funny.
