to be fair our warden in origins (if you chose to be nice and help everybody) was an exception in the warden ranks.... even duncan had ulterior motives at times, like in the human noble origin when duncan basically extorted bryce cousland for the pc to become a warden... it doesnt surprise me that stroud wouldnt care what the hell is happening in kirkwall.... his mission had him in kirkwall and leaving it to go some where else, when the qunari invaded his job is to get his people out so they can continue their mission, not get themselves killed protecting people they have no connection to.
Yeah, I know GW are walking anus. They've a reson to be so, so I don't mind it. Worried how Bioware will handle them in DAI, tho. I'm worried about the Templars as well. Not here for another indoctrination.
Anyway, with Stroud is just personal.

a more somber arrangement of his theme (if he has one), the romance song (if he's the LI) or even of the main theme overall could work.

hmm...wouldn't a beautiful soothing melody be better for that than an eerie music? It would offset, maybe even enhance the horror of the darkspawn in a way, once you start hearing that pleasant tune, you know it's over.

I thought the fun of the Calling was not knowing the melody. If the Calling/taint was given a leimotif it would spoil the allure of it because we'd see it coming from a mile away.

I'm a bigger fan of him with the streaks of gray in his beard. Makes him look more distinguished.
If he has his Calling at the end of the game, then I want the option for my Quizzy to join him, especially if romanced.

Agreed mlgumm, I'd never let someone I love face that alone (unless I had kids to take care of or was still in the middle of saving the world but neither of those will probably come into play at the end of da:I)
I had always imagined that Zevran would go with me to the Deep Roads to face my Calling together.
it could always be a choice made during a conversation near the end of the game. It could be something like "but lass, I hear the song. I must leaving for my Calling soon. Our time together is nearing its end." And the quizzy could choose between options like "I'll miss you" and "you're not going alone. I'm with you till the end." And some heartless break up line I don't even want to think >.<

on your last romantic interaction with him and he invites you for a drink (it's just a normal drink, perhaps not even the first time he invited you, just to make the player unaware of what he's about to do), he could spike it with a sleeping drug and go off himself to the deep roads.
maybe leaving you with his most heartfelt last letter/will to the inquisitor before the end.
kinda like how alistair goes off to kill the archdemon, sacrificing himself instead of the warden.
ahhh...feels good to crush hopes and dreams
