Don't know why, but he strikes me as possibly Orlesian. It would make sense since we will probably encounter Orlesian Grey Wardens.Good question. We don't even have enough to speculate on because we're not even sure where he's from. Is he Ferelden? Orlesian? Nevarran? Who knows?

Look at his moustache. Search your feelings.
Well, to be fair, his moustache doesn't look particularly like anything with regards to the nations that we know. I could see it being any of the nations that are supposed to be in the game., to be honest.

Time to toss out baseless speculation! I think he's from the Anderfels. It would be interesting to see a warden that was actually stationed in Weisshaupt and was sent south because of the veil tears or something. He could give some insight into the First Warden supposedly trying to lead the country.

Here's an idea: we all know how the First Warden is setting himself up to take over the Anderfels throne which upsets many Grey Wardens who believe the order should fly no flag but its own in defense of all the people.
I think we can safely assume Beardy is disilusioned with the current leadership. So, what if the reason he joins the Inquisition is so he can use its resources to find the Hero of Ferelden so s/he can set the Wardens back into the right path?

I don't know why, but in the picture of the game play demo he reminds me of Duncan.

maybe hes someone of great power within the wardens, who happens to be against the idea of the first warden taking the anders and is set to be executed due to political differences.... so hes not the first warden, maybe the high constable or whatever the second in command was called, and no its not the second warden

I kinda liked his concept art design the most so far with the GW

And speaking of First Warden, he/she should have armor like GW Alistair in Heroes of Dragon Age

He seems really broad in his concept art, I hope they stick to that vs the default male
If they give him a unique model (which I would greatly prefer since they can't just show him being huge and burly in concept art and not deliver. What a disappointment that would be) it may cause people to complain that since he has a larger body model, why can't the male Inquisitor have the option of using said larger body model.

Screw em lol. As long as Beardy's huge, I don't care.

His beard will sustain him for many years to come regardless of how long he's been with the wardens.
its like justice, the man himself is dead, but his beard is posessing his body and when the body can no longer fight, he moves on to the next one.... he is.... the most interesting beard in the world

I actually like that theory a LOT. His hunt for the Hero of Ferelden / Warden Commander would be very interesting and could serve as a "catalyst" for whatever he has been doing for the past years. And with Morrigan, Alistair and possibly Leliana making appearance in DA:I he would certainly have some interesting dialog with these characters.
I would actually prefer this method of The Warden appearance, rather than a physical one.

I really like that idea. It would be especially nice to hear what another, likely experienced Warden thinks of some of the Hero's more ambiguously moral decisions, such as the Anvil, the OGB, Amaranthine, and the Architect, and how that influences his perspective of them. An ongoing hunt for the Hero would also be a neat little side-plot that could concur nicely with the Inquisitor's need to stop the veil tears. I will now be very disappointed if this isn't Beardy's reason for joining the Inquisition.
I think I'd prefer he got his own character model, like the Arishok did. It adds character to a person. Come on, the Arishok wouldn't have been nearly as intimidating and badass if he'd been as small as all the other Qunari.

Considering we have a thread discussion for Varric, Vivienne, Cassandra and Bald Elf Guy, I found it fitting that we should also discuss this badass looking Grey Warden which may serve as a companion in Inquisition.
I mean, look at that magnificent beard!
Here is a screenshot from last year of him during a Pre-Alpha gameplay.
So what do you think? What will his role be? Will he have any info on the supposed secret that the Wardens were hiding in DA2? I'm sure am excited to see this guy.
Hope so. I do remember during DA2 that the wardens said they had a lot more important matters to attend to, ones we may or may not understand. I wonder if that did partly play out to bring out DA:I also. Only time will tell I suppose.

Oh, I can hear the banter now.
"Seras: So, this is Amaranthine. I once heard a song about how the Hero of Ferelden arrived at a city that all considered lost and, against all odds and advices, he rallied the city's last remaining defenders and managed to drive the darkspawn back, saving the city and its people. Did it really happen, Beardy?
Aye, lass. I was there when we received the news at Weisshaupt. My former friend, the tyrant who calls himself First Warden, made sure to gather the highest echelons of the Wardens so they could hear his speech about how the Hero had taken a tremendous risk that could have backfired; how burning the city was the logical and safe choice; how Wardens aren't supposed to take these risks. Naturally, the sycophants he had gathered around himself trampled each in their rush to agree with his every word.
Seras: And what did you do?
I stood up, the hall went silent, said "Can't argue with the results" and walked out."
